Yanks Slay Cueto

with 21 comments

You have to love this,

Trout sand Pujols returning Rodney the favor. You’ve been on a decent team for 10 minutes dumbo, how about  you chill  the histrionics

Back in the Bronx the Yanks slayed the Mighty Cueto 3-2 in walk off fashion.

It was a hilarious afternoon listening to  this game on the radio with Ma and Pa  Pinstripe waxing the virtues of “Cueto” like he was some sort of super human hero. When the Bombers did get the first  2 men on in the 3rd inning, Roberts single and a Kelly walk, Pa went nuts when Gardner didn’t bunt them up  a base, and Ma chimed in once Gardner went down on an innocuous F/9 that  didn’t move the line.

Jeter grounded out, Ells walked and Texy  was punched out and Pa never let the Bomber offensive misstep go, until  the Yanks finally walked off in the 9th. The Yanks did manage to  get Cueto out of the game after 5 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 4 BB’s, 7 K’s, a sick 2.18 ERA, after they channeled the old days when they  would wait out El Pollo Martinez. The boys ran up Cueto’s pitch  count to 112 after 5 and he was gone. Somehow they managed to  take a 2-1 lead off the Great “Cueto”

To hear Sterling say that name ” Cueto” for 5 innings, you felt like you were listening to  Shakespearean  Summer play. Anyway  the Yanks couldn’t clutch hit Parra, Lecure and Broxton, any better, so it made it even  funnier.  3 for 15 with RISP, they left 13 men on base, it was maddening to  say  the least. 11 Bombers struck out on the day.

2 walks and 2 singles by Jeter and Ellsbury made it 2-1 in the 5th.

Todd Frazier, how good would this kid look in Stripes, hit a Tater off Betances in the n8th to  tie it at  2-2, which infuriated Sterling even more, as he brought up  the 3rd inning Yankee misstep once again. If only they  would have bunted Betances wouldn’t have had to pitch  so  cautiously.  lol…From the radio  side it didn’t sound like Betances had his A stuff, the first  batter he faced  with 2 out in the 7th inning, he coughed up  a knock.

Why he was in at that  point in time is a head scratcher, Kuroda had 100  pitches and induced 2 pop ups, the #9 hitter was up, let him  finish the inning and start Betances fresh in the 8th was my thought.  Schumaker led off the 8th  with  a single, lucky for the Yanks he was picked off, because Frazier put one in the seats to  tie it.

You got the feeling this one was gonna go  to  the Reds after the blown hold, but Ellsbury single handedly forced in a run off the incredible Chapman who  was brought in not to  save the game but to  hold it in the 9th. I thought it was a strange but good move with Ells and Bubba up, but Ells put an incredible AB on Chapman finally singling to lead off the inning..

He stole 2nd before the ball even got to  the catchers mitt,( you watching Gardner?) went to  3rd on a wild pitch, and scored on a botched pop  up  that  was ruled a single for McCann.

Thanks to Ellsbury’s brilliance, and Mother Nature’s sun drenched sky for the assist as 3 Reds  stood and watched the ball  drop in between them. The Reds may have been hot coming into  this series but they  played like a really bad baseball  team  for 3 games in a row and the Yanks stole a sweep

Kuroda was phenomenal, we’ve been waiting for him to pitch  like this all  season. We have to  temper the outing somewhat, sans Frazier without Votto and Phillips and for 2 games Schumaker this team wasn’t hitting at  all.. Pena did muscle up  some runs, but he’s not keeping you up  at  night worrying, and one has to  wonder if Votto is in the game at  the time, is McCann’s walk off single nothing more then  a pop up  to  1st base and we’re in extra innings?

The Ellsbury AB in the bottom of the 9th off Chapman earned him made man  status. The Yanks aren’t selling but that  was the type of outing that  would have Cashman’s phone ringing off the hook, with  contending teams looking to trade for the old Hiro. D-Rob would be the other trade chip that might bring back  a decent  prospect, but the Yanks don’t roll  that  way  and the 3 game sweep with the lowly Rangers coming in has the Bronx buzzing once again

I really didn’t think  they  had a shot yesterday so this was all  gravy

  1. the Reds played some terrible baseball this weekend, so we might have to wait on thinking this pitching staff is walking on water, but that was a great sweep

Ellsbury could use some help, and I hope Cashman can lift somebody with a decent bat without giving up much, see the McCarthy trade as a reference.. Marlon Byrd might be the guy, they owe him some money, but they also might get back something decent for him in the next 2 weeks so I doubt Cashman wants to get held up, and I don’t blame him

good to see McCann move his line up, better then what he was doing, but Beltran as your big stick, i don’t know about that one.. either way I had the season lost so house money, and take the ride

  2. Yanks have not had a lot of luck or gotten a lot of breaks the first half,so maybe yesterdays miracle pop up
signals their luck has changed for the better.Ellsbury was 4-4,with a great at bat vs Chapman who kills lefties, then stole 2b,glad to have him on our side.I heard an interview with Klapisch,he was saying that he doesn’t think the Yanks or Mets will make trades where they have to pick up large salaries, that Cashman
does not want to give up prospects-we will see.Now the Rangers come to town, they have been truly horrible, they only have 1 pitcher(Darvish) and their offense has been pathetic with Beltre their biggest threat.Yanks need to take care of business against them, take advantage of their weak pitching and very poor defense. As far as the Angels,Rodney came in the 8th inning for a 5 out save, and after the 8th,shot and arrow toward the Angels dugout-thats why Pujols and Trout shot arrows when they got hits and tied the score in the 9th.It was all on mlb network, they had a blast with it.The O’s lost 2 of 3 to the A’s,so they Yanks have a chance to get even closer as they play the Angels and Mariners on the coast if they beat the Rangers then the blowjays.

  4. Mark Reynolds is doing so bad I can see the Brew Crew DFAing him.. Maybe Cashman can grab him, change of scenery type thing, nothing like that short porch to wake a guy up

Texy is hurt again no surprise but a utility guy that can play decent 1st base needs to be a priority this off season, tis guy misses too much time

Still enough meat in the order if Beltran and Ellsbury hit, McCann gets the night off, bad night for Texy to get hut, plus now for 3 days they have to play short handed…

  5. Greene obviously spends more time practicing his grips then he does playing defense..Kid’s got a nice arm, fun seeing young kids with upside

  6. If Ichiro isn’t gonna hit, at least play good defense, can’t let that Choo ball fall

The kids in deep shit now, need some K’s

  8. Yankees defense is similar to what is normally seen in a t-ball game-WTF!!! I have to watch the Rangers broadcast, which is torture enough, but the Yanks not hitting Mikolas, who has been battered and shit on by everyone else is nauseating.Besides Stenchiro, who needs to be gone asap, who is more worthless than Kelly Johnson? He should have left Roberts take the grounder instead of going for it,then Greene dropped it.Greene just made his 3rd error of the game-this a major leaguer? He will be having pfp at 8 am tomorrow!! Its hard to believe how horrible the Yanks are.

  10. Thank God for Ellsbury…

This is a must win…talking about Johnson, he only has the gig because Solarte disappeared

Cashman has to get Ells some help

  11. Amazing Greene can paint the corners, make balls look like strikes, and vice versus, but can’t throw the ball to first base

  14. Another night when the offense is making the pitchers night really tough.. Greene is on fumes, Girardi playing with fire

    Sal

    July 21, 2014 at 9:19 pm

  15. Girardi is a fuckin ass hole, that’s where Thornton unable to get RHB out hurts, left Greene in too long

This is a triple A line up a triple A pitcher, yanks asleep sans Ellsbury

Actually Thornton can’t get anybody out..

Rangers finally ran into a team as bad as they are

Again what is Thornton doing on this team

  16. Choo was 0-21 going into the game, cannot ever hit lefties,so naturally he singles off Thornton driving in a run! Disgusting

  17. Imagine paying to watch this mess

Thornton should be on the next train out of ny Big D

Kelly wasn’t on the bag, 5 errors now, unless they give him a hit…I’d want my money back if I’m a fan in the building

Where’s texy’s back up Cash? Go get Reynolds, he can’t hit any worse then these guys..we have to put up with Cappy, but not Johnson
