The Yanks continued their add to  their long list of charitable causes yesterday  by donating $5M to  the Chris Capuano Foundation

Depositing this little bundle of joy into Capuano’s bank account was Bomber GM Brian Cashman, who mentioned to the  inquiring press

“ This move was inspired by our reinforce and diversify metric, wSS+” ( foot note* metric calculations are (wall+Shit=Splash).

+ indicates they’ve increased their chances of having to  clean the mess up sooner rather then later

We reiterate and concur with popular belief that El Capo is

in the rotation in 2015 for the same reasons he was in 2014 – because so much had gone wrong.

Hal Steinbrenner expressed sincere confidence in Cashman’s decision

“We’ve spent Millions of Dad’s money on our metric intel  department  and  Cash has always used our findings RE: the wSS+metric,  judiciously. I have complete confidence he will  continue his success rate. Let’s be honest, we’ve paid a high value for Youkilis, Roberts, Anna, Sizemore, Ryan, Hafner, Stewart, Johnson, Vazquez, Ikawa,  I’m sorry I think it’s Igawa, Karsay, Wright, Brown, the list  goes on and on, like everything the Yankees do it’s  very impressive”

The Glass Half Full

The Real Geeks Of Fangraphs’ version of why  the Yanks found it in their hearts to  contribute your hard earned money to El Capo’s Revenge

Chris Capuano (Profile)

Some relevant information regarding Capuano:

Has averaged 133 IP and 1.4 WAR over last three seasons.
Has averaged 2.1 WAR per 200 IP* over last three seasons.
Recorded a 1.0 WAR in 97.1 IP in 2014.
Is projected to record 1.3 WAR per 200 IP** in 2015.
Is entering his age-36 season.
Made $2.3M in 2014, as part of deal signed in February of 2014.
*That is, a roughly average number of innings for a starting pitcher.
**According to prorated Steamer projections available here.

We don’t have a problem  with Capuano, he wears his game on his sleeve. On days he pitches he will  give you  between 5 and 6 innings, 100 pitches, more hits then innings pitched, a minimum of 4 runs, so  the offense needs to know the opposition has a 4 handicap going in

Unfortunately on the last game of the season he went 6.2 innings, 4  hits, 1 run, vs Boston who had mugged Tanaka the day before. Never mind Boston was about as interested in playing that game as we would be trying to  find a Rosie O’Donnell sex video,  Cashman never forgets a favor, and El Capo is the proud recipient of their generosity

Marbles Feinsand

Capuano isn’t going to shift the power in the American League East ( see shit shifting metric)

King the Third

“We tried to sign him last year, but we didn’t match up,’’ Cashman said of the 36-year-old Capuano

i.e. we weren’t this fucking desperate)

Andy’s Gang

When asked about Scherzer on Tuesday, an official said the Yankees will “absolutely not” be in on him this winter. “I think that’s a lot higher level than we’re willing to play in right now.”

Despite Davidoff not wanting anybody to  talk ARod until  spring training, the Yanks need to  sell  tickets, Capuano,  Young, Headley and Sir Diddy, ain’t moving the needle.. Boras might be counting on that aspect as a negotiating ploy. That  said,  he might endure a long count, unless the middle of this order finds a remote fountain of youth, Scherzer is only making the Yanks one of the best  teams in baseball for 30 games…. That’s if they  can  score 3 runs when he pitches

  1. I think some poster mentioned You mean the Yanks don’t have a kid who can do this for league minimum?

That’s 10 times what Boston is paying Wade Miley

  2. Loving the explanation that Sal has of the wSS metric.
A few years ago I was reading about Arod and how he has no respect for anyone overweight and not in great shape. The article said that Arod would virtually ignore anyone like that. Funny now to read from Cashman that Arod needs to drop a few pounds. This circus hasn’t even started to pitch its tents yet.

  4. You mean to tell me you wouldn’t watch a Rosie OCow sex tape?-lol Forget war its just another dumpster dive,
they need someone to eat innings,Capuano is usually good for 5/game,sometimes 6 then get the bull pen ready!!
I thought the Arod nonsense would start in spring training, but its here now!!! It seems like the Yanks are doing everything they can to make Arod so miserable he quits-lol They want him gone but refuse to just eat the $61 mil.
I am sure there are going to be a lot more low budget signings as they try to fill out the roster with the albatross of
    Arod around their neck.

  6. Sandoval is a notorious low ball hitter, well documented, per Brooks, his spray and range chart shows he swings at pitches up in zone about the same percentage .. He misses those pitches more then any of the other out of the strike zone areas
