Big Game AJ

with 22 comments

Well  the media pundits probably should start  to  dig up more A-Rod stories because them getting any mileage out of Yankees spending Hal’s money on a big ticket item  this off season has finally come to  a bitter end for  the rumor moguls like Nicky Two Fingers Cafardo, Bob Nightingale, Jon Heyman, Kenny Bowtie Rosenthal, Jon Paul and Ringo Morosi, and the Let’s Spend Hal’s Money Gurus at ESPN Andy Marchand and Wally Matthews

Big Game AJ Preller the newest rock  star GM presently residing in that scorching MLB hot bed of San Diego who’s $77M payroll landed them 8 games under .500, good for 3rd place in the NL West in 2014 have had a 2015 make over that Bruce Jenner would be envious of.

Last night while 56 yr old Madonna was prancing around an LA stage in her panties, ( somebody needs to  tell  the girl that’s just  a bad idea)

Big Game AJ continued to pile on the Brand names this winter by inking James Shields AKA Big Game James to  a reported 4 yr $72 /$76 deal

The  amount of money wasn’t quite what Shields was looking for, but still  a nice overpay for a pitcher who  doesn’t live up  to his Big Game moniker. That  said,  in  this WAR / xFIP driven pitching economy,  his ability to eat  200 innings, and his prowess as a clubhouse lawyer overseeing young pitching staffs  ( Rays and Royals) was definitely worth the  value for the get rich  quick Padres who  are going after the the NL West Dodgers and Giants marquee in a big way

Shields was connected to  the Yanks by the MLB rumor moguls, but NY fans knew better, despite his asking price shrinking faster then Brian Williams’  and Joe Girardi’s story telling credibility.

Once we saw David Robertson the rumored third head in a potential 3 headed Monster out of the bull pen never getting an offer, Prado traded to Miami for a fixer upper Nate Eovaldi and a $5M back up plan for DH / first base, no  traceable texts to Jon Lester or Max Scherzer’s agents, and the unconscionable signing of Beano Capuano as their 5th  starter, the hand writing was (above the urinal) on the wall that Hal was done spending after Andrew Miller and Chase Headley

Shields has logged  200 innings plus for the last  8 years, so  either San Diego got themselves an old school  starter or Preller is gonna need to purchase Triple A when he finally breaks down on the side of the road. For the Yanks they don’t need a baby sitter, they have Sabathia, and Tanaka appears to be an old soul for a 26 yr old kid, it would have been nice to have a potential horse in the rotation, but with the Yanks already  at  around $232M in AAV contracts, it didn’t make any sense to  drive that  to $250M at the moment.

If all  the “If’s” on this 25 man roster can find Ponce De Leon’s road side fountain and the Bombers are smelling a playoff run, we can then expect the accountants to possibly bolster the roster during the season. Until  then, SteinBoob has pretty much  put the heat on his over priced Stars to live up  to  their baseball  card, and that’s not  a bad thing, too many bad contracts in baseball can be as harmful as the owners gouging the fan base

I’m all  for the MLBPA making sure the owners don’t resort back to  the days when Tom Yawkey had his good old boy connection, or the Yankee front office strong armed Mantle, but the union has gone a little too  far toward the 1% for my liking, I have no problem with the cold turkey we’re about to  endure, it might be the only way  to  find out what  youngsters can play  and which ones need to move on

  1. I’m getting Shields, Moncada, and A-Rod’d out, so one down 2 to go.. Moncada should heat up next, the rumors will be flying, the Yanks would be crazy not to ink him, if they did their homework… A-Rod we’re not gonna escape, so buckle up

they might have a red ass for foreigners coming into MLB making $40M signing bonuses while college players have to take their lunch pail to work everyday, I’m starting to see some of that stuff written, just wondering if the SteinBoob kids think like that re : third world labor?

they seem OK paying the freight on Asians but not so much Latin Americans…I don’t consider A-Rod or Beltran in that school of thought… they certainly knew how to jettison Cano, and every Latin kid was purchased wholesale, the fact they blew away the IFA ceiling was based on volume not overpricing for 1 item

  3. Baseball is getting close, all the writers came out of their holes.Klapisch wrote an article on Arod then went on the wfan.He said Shields wanted to play for the Yanks, had his agent call them,Cashman said we are interested but have no money,so I will not waste your time.Klapisch also said that Hal has turned off the spigot,no more money so don’t hold your breath for anyone coming here. The Daily News came out of its coma,
had a big article about Refsnyder and our old pal Madden looked into his crystal bottle and predicted this year was a replay of 1992 for the Yanks and Mets, not exactly a golden year-lol I am afraid what you see is what you will get,no last second additions before spring training.

Yes Happy birthday to the Don !!!!!! thanks Scones…. For some reason I thought the Don’s birthday was in May, then I thought it was Feb 29th so that would make him 39 yr’s old.. god bless him….

the closest thing Donny is gonna get to a Moncada is if we chip in and buy him a hour with Selena Moncada one of Heidi Fleiss’s higher end escorts from Washington Heights

strange that the YES site would put out a story that the Yanks should sign Moncada, if they weren’t that interested you would think this story wouldn’t be allowed to be published by YES

There might still be hope then

Moncada looks like he’s gonna do a bunch of auditions, try to get as many teams in the mix as possible.. Yanks should pull a Shark Tank, make him a dope offer and tell him he has 48 hours or it’s off the table

Get this kid in the system

  9. Sal, this is exactly what fuels my optimism. Remember I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, on the last Yankee Hot Stove, they put up some graphs of Moncada & Bourbon Bob talked about how the Yanks, among others, were very interested in him. If they weren’t, why spend time on the show highlighting him & riling up the Universe if they really don’t have an interest? It doesn’t make sense. I’m hoping Cashman got the blessing from SteinBoob & is laying in the weeds. They better not fuck this up!

  10. http://www.pinstripealley.com/2015/2/9/8005923/yankees-shouldve-considered-brandon-beachy-and-everth-carbera

A couple of low risk type deals, that we hope Cashman is kicking the tires on

Boston is really counting on Ogando. Beachy used to be a contender

  13. Sal the new link for our disqus chat is up at the Herald, the Porcello article, you can also access from the Monday link, just go to Recent Red Sox Chats in the right hand column. And don’t be surprised if the Sox overwhelm Moncada, with Rusney already signed for 7 years, he will be more comfortable in Boston, then New York

  14. I dont know why there is optimism over Tanaka’s elbow. He is a ticking time bomb and of course not throwing off a mound helps his “pain free workouts”. Whats going to happen when his arm has to take the pounding of throwing every 5th day????????? They have Cant Count on Sabathia who has not been good since 2012, Tanaka who will need T J by July; Pineda who wont last a whole year while having pine tar on his neck and Nova coming off TJ. This rotation will be in shambles in no time. I dont have a lot of faith, I hope I’m wrong but I doubt it.

    • Ricky I was wondering if the Yanks shouldn’t go to a 6 man rotation with this bunch?

  15. Hey ricky, can’t agree with you more on Tanaka, sounds like a lot of BS coming from the YES men, they just didn’t want to jack up the payroll, so the Tanaka feels good stuff…

Blackie, you and me will be playing in Boston before Moncada.. I’m not saying he’s coming to NY but Boston is doing nothing but keeping their fans thinking they’re in on the kid…You guys have been hyping these middle infielders for 3 yr’s, no way your dropping $80 to $90M on a 19 yr kid, I don’t care what Castillo is saying about him

I did see the chat room, just haven’t had time to jump in today

Mikey 2,221 can’t find anything to talk about so it Dolan, is he kidding me, how about get some MLB pundits on, how about digging to the bottom of Moncada, get your boy Omar o, friggin clowns from 1 to 6:30 are mailing it in everyday….

  16. Sal, I couldn’t agree with you more on Fransayso. It’s torture to listen to all of them. Amazingly, none of them are talking any baseball. All this hoops crap is driving me mad. How about some Moncada talk? Pathetic!
