You Gotta Be Kidding

Tyler Wade, Aaron Judge

The Yanks haven’t developed a home grown starting position player since Brett Gardner, while Gardner is considered the face of the Bombers post Jeter the only real standout farm hand in recent memory has been Dellin Betances who emerged as a lights out All Star  reliever / weapon in 2014.

While Ace type starters are still premium value based on the potential  for them to  pitch 200 innings, while working if your lucky 7 innings per start every 5 days, bull pen weapons who  can pitch fro  65 to in Betances case 90 innings have considerably closed the gap on a pitching staffs importance

The best  case in point in MLB is the Detroit tigers who  showcased Verlander, Price, Scherzer, Fister, and Sanchez, that my friends is 3 Ace’s a # 2 (Sanchez) and a solid #2 / 3 (Fister), but thanks to  a very leaky bull pen they never made it out of the DLS last  season

The Orioles and Royals with  no  true Ace made it to  the LCS and World Series game 7. It took  a Herculean effort by Madison Bumgarner to over come the  youth, speed, defense, and shut down  bull pen the Royals showcased in October

The biggest  stick in the mud for the Yanks in the last two non playoff  seasons has been their un-tradable  Geriatric millionaires clogging up  the payroll, the rotation the lineup.

An effort to retool the team failed miserably when free agents McCann and  Beltran completely tanked, Ellsbury didn’t come close to  replacing Cano on the field, and Tanaka after throwing

Is the Worm  starting to turn? Yesterday the Baby Bombers once again came to  the rescue whipping the Astros 9-4 after scoring  6 runs in the 9th inning with all  the damage coming from mid-game replacements —

Greg Bird, Rob Refsnyder, Nick Noonan and Jose Pirela went 4-for-7 with six RBIs. Throw in solo homers by Ramon Flores in the sixth inning and Jake Cave in the eighth, and realize the ninth-inning rally began with a single by a teenager, Tyler Wade

Ok so it’s Spring Training, and all  the damage came off other varsity replacements, ( it’s hard to  tell  the difference with the Astros) but what I think  we might have now as  opposed to  2013 is potential  depth once the Geriatrics land on the DL

I hate to  discriminate against older folks, being one myself, but in two  weeks if the likes of Teixeira, Beltran, McCann, Headley, and Rodriguez are still  hitting pop ups and soft rolled over ground balls to  the infield, or dunk  singles to  left, you trying to  tell me watching young kids isn’t a hell of a lot more fun?

We might need to watch SWB and Trenton games this season if Hal’s Championship Caliber team plays like a senior softball league team. So  far there have been 5 HR’s, not one has come from a 25 man roster player. Judge, Bird, Cave, Flores, and Austin have produced the power, Teixeira, Beltran McCann, Headley, Gregorius, Drew, A-Rod, Ellsbury, and Gardner have cured the greater NY area’s  insomnia epidemic

We also got a glimpse of what Cashman  considers pitching depth when Scott Baker was pounded like a ball of pizza dough in his 1 inning of throwing batting practice to  the Astros regs

Not even Glaucoma John  or Ma Pinstripe could find a good word to  say  about Baker’s performance. Ma only waxed what Baker used to be before blowing out his arm a few yr’s ago.. 85 MPH clothes line fast balls with  no  movement whatsoever  was on tap, lucky the Yanks only trailed 3-0  after the first  inning

Two weeks, we’ll  give  the fat  cats,  two  weeks….

Nicky 2 Fingers is hitting the sauce or trying to rile up the Red Sox fan base

According to one Phillies source, the Yankees have come the closest to landing Hamels, offering a package of prospects that at least has given the Phillies a baseline for future talks.

hopefully the Yanks aren’t including Betances, Judge, Severino, Bird, or Refsynder

they can have Gardner, Pirela, Sanchez, Williams, Mitchell, Noonan, Heathcott or Austin

  3. how desperate will the Yanks be if they think they’ll miss the playoffs 3 yr’s in a row, desperate enough to give up Judge and Severino?
