Joey the Spin

Not that’s it’s a bad idea in this age of player entitlement and insidious guaranteed contracts, but Joey Day Care Girardi AKA Joey the Spin has become an insufferable read.. He’s on the same level  as Bryl Cream Curry, Bourbon Bob, Glaucoma John, Ma Waldman, and Brickhouse Marakavits

Joey wants to be the players best  friend, and I guess you can’t blame him, after all  the media is a players frenemy, actually the media is every public person’s frenemy. You never tell  them  the truth, you give them what they think you wanna say, but hate when  you  do, because it’s a boring read

Instead of compiling prospect projections and useless saber metric data like UZR ratings the cracked staff at Paint the Black has compiled a bunch of Joe Girardi  quotes

“I didn’t see the home runs today. I don’t know how much the wind was a factor.’’

From the article where Can’t Count On Sabathia told the media to Fuck Off

“I was able to go out there five times and pitch five innings and feel great,” Sabathia said. “I haven’t had any problems. I’m looking forward to getting to the season and trying to help this team.”

How great  can  you feel Can’t Count On, you chickened out pitching to  the Orioles and went to hide on some back field where a  5 ’11” double A player hit a ball that  went so  far and so  high, it had frequent flyer miles attached to it, then Sabathaia  had it happen again later in then scrimmage, that’s 5 Taters so  far this Spring…

Yeah too bad a pitcher has to  throw a first pitch

“He didn’t feel it on the full swing, he felt it a little on the check swing,’’ said Girardi, who ended Gregorius’ day.

From the Article when Gregorius just  about broke his wrist, had it in a cast, but was fine and will be ready to  go on Wednesday

We Switch gears to  the always transparent Brian Cashman

Cashman disputed the notion Betances’ velocity was down.

and when Betances heard that  quote he chimed in with

“The spin was better,” Betances said.

Yes it was D-Bet, you were 1 MPH faster then last yr at  this time, Cashman has it all logged in..

“He’s actually averaging a mile higher at this point in the spring than he was last spring,” the GM said. “If it’s apples to apples, then he’s right where he was last year. Obviously, his performance this spring is different than last spring. But the arm strength is not the issue.”

No  wonder this kid is confused, the kid has a 7.11 ERA and a 1.7 WHIP, 5 K’s and 3 BB’s, 8 hits in 6 innings. One day his leg is too high, one day he’s opening up too much, he pretty much  forgot how to  repeat his mechanics

That’s like a lawyer forgetting how to bull shit, a guitar player forgetting how to  tune his strings, a baker forgetting how to measure his / her ingredients, a swimmer forgetting how to stay  afloat, or a female porn star forgetting how to  fake an orgasm

WTF

“I thought he was better, I thought the curveball was better,” Girardi said. “It’s a step in the right direction.”

From the article Girardi was happy with Betances’ last outing, the one where he  allowed a run for the fifth consecutive appearance and is still fighting whatever it is he’s fighting.

“It’s not a concern for me, no,’’ manager Joe Girardi said of Betances’ velocity. “If it goes on for a long time, it will be a concern. Power pitchers usually take a little longer.’’

From the article My velocity is nowhere near  where it should be

You couldn’t find this kid with a google maps GPS last Spring, he slipped into  camp like a cat bugler. This year after a dominating 2014, he got his ass kissed all winter, Cashman let his closer go because of money, and there was an unwritten vibe he was gonna get the closer gig.

Now the pressure has mounted on him in a pressure cooker environment and the kid seems clogged up  between the ears.

He’s got two weeks to clear his head

back later
