Sa-Bad-thia Almost Not Terrible

The Grass is Greene(r)

Two games, 16 innings, yes that means Shane Greene has pitched two  8 inning games, he’s given  up  7 hits and no runs.. That’s two  wins the old school  way, no 5 or 6  inning warrior, then  the pen bails you out for the last 9 to 12 outs

I also  watched David Robertson close  out the Indians, they never put the ball in play, 3 Punch outs

Hal  sending down orders to  cut payroll  took Cashman’s biggest GM asset away, being the Director of Spending.. Why,  why would any GM trade  a young cost controlled pitcher just  starting to  find his game for a no  hit SS that  couldn’t crack  the D-Backs line up, and their SS is Ahmad batting .150 and Owens batting .086

And Kevin Long and Mick Kellerher got fired?

A Red Sox fan mentioned too me the other day, if Cashman got fired he’d have a job in 15 minutes, to which I retorted

Micky D’s and Dunkin Donuts take at least a week to process their applications

The Blind Boys of RAB

have done cartwheels over Gregorius, so of course they  write an  article that claims we have to be patient.. they  actually use Tino Martinez as a template for Gregorius

Tino  was coming off a 31 HR / 111 RBI / .293 / .369 / .551 / .920 with a .135 OPS+ Season when they  traded for him in 1996

O’s Beat Yanks

Last night the Yanks got back to being the Yanks and lost a 4-3 game to  the Buck-O’s.

The number one suspect in this crime is of course Brian Cashman, he put this mess together, but other photos on the wall  at your local Post Office / Police Station were CC Sabathia, Brian McCann, Garrett Jones,  and the whole team in clutch spots as the Bombers were 1 for 8 with RISP

The Run Down On Badness In the Clutch

Beltran  shocked the world with a double in the first inning, but Teixeira struck out. Headley doubled and Drew walked in the 2nd, but Gregorius struck out.

McCan’t grounded out 4 times on the night trying to pull  the ball  through and over the shift. In the 6th  when the Yanks finally scored a run off Cy Gonzalez, McCan’t grounded out with Teixeira on 2nd base, to keep  the game at  3-1.

Gregorius shocked the world with a lead off single in the 8th, Headley singled, Beltran plated Gregorius on a 4-3 ground out, Teixeira got a gift from De Aza when he played an F/7 into  the Yanks 3rd run with an E/7

After the Baltimore media hung Buck out to  dry for not inserting Matusz the night before against Drew, he yanked Gausman  and brought in Britton to pitch  to McCan’t, and for the 4th  time McCan’t bounced out, this time to  2nd base to keep  the game 4-3

The Yanks couldn’t touch Miggy Gonzalez, 7 innings, 4 hits, 1 run, 1 BB, 10 K’s, that’s the type of outing we want to  see from Tanaka, and the Bombers had no luck against Zack Britton 1.1 innings, 4 up. 4 down, so  a 4 out save

Now for my man Sabathia,

Of course he pitched better then his line, doesn’t he always?

7 innings, 4 hits, 4 runs, 1 BB, 7 K’s ERA 5.68.. He put the Yanks in a 3-0 hole coughing up  a HR to Jones in the 1st, a lead off walk, a single and a sac fly got him in the 3rd, 2 singles and a wild pitch  got him in the 3rd, and a lead off triple and a sac fly won the game for the O’s in the 7th

Sabathia obviously doesn’t, hardly ever did, and now can’t, cover any bases on balls  hit to  the infield. There was dead silence in the Biased YES booth  when Singleton made the mistake and mentioned  it’s a matter of time before teams start  to  set up innings by bunting men on.

Pretty much  taking the 9th  defensive player off the field, forget  backing up  any bases on knocks.  I’d be shocked if Singleton  still has a job this morning

What  you liked seeing was Sabathia eating 7 innings, so only Chris Martin was used in the loss, and Martin 1 inning, 3 K’s, 3.89 ERA, had a nice outing after getting slapped around by the Red Sox in his previous appearance

Pitch FX has the Sabathia details

Sabathia’s 4 seam fastball  averaged out at 89 MPH, his slider was his best pitch, it was also  the biggest  differential in velocity 89 to  78.. There wasn’t much subtraction in velocity from his fast ball  to his sinker or change up, and he only threw the 4 seamer 18 times, so  18 of the 90 pitches were fast balls

He had 11 swing and misses, looks like the change up had the best percentage ( 20%) he threw 20  change ups got 4 swings and misses

Here is a disclaimer, Pitch FX has Sabathia throwing 66 pitches, I counted his logged pitches off MLB box score and he threw 91 pitches 63 for strikes

Anyway  the glass half full take on Sabathia is if he keeps trending the way he pitched last night eventually we’ll see 7 innings and 2 runs.. My guess Kate Upton will be serving you breakfast in bed before we see that happening on a consistent basis

Is there a sane reason  why one of the flying Gregorio Bros took the night off from his bowling ball juggling act in Jersey and pinch hit for Jones? I mean if Petit is your best option off the bench to pinch hit in the 9th inning, you really better hope the owner of the team  you GM wasn’t in the country watching this game…

And can  you please pinch hit Murphy for McCan’t vs the LHP Britton, despite the $16.5M difference in pay scale?

Yanks have a chance to  win a series with Sabathia or Tanaka not pitching tonight

Eovaldi vs Norris

Everybody rocks #42 tonight in honor of Jack Robinson

  1. Sabathia wasn’t that terrible, the offense just sucks in clutch spots…

and baseball’s pecking order really screws things up this early in the yr, McCan’t had as much chance as I did getting a knock off Britton, if it was a crunch game in Sept or Oct. he’s not getting anywhere near a bat rack vs Britton

big night early for Eovaldi, Yanks need to get one good outing from somebody you would think

not one of Pineda, Sabathia, Eovaldi or Tanaka have a sub 5 ERA, Warren is the Yankees Ace at the moment

  2. CC did have 91 pitches. The team just cannot get a hit with risp-McCann twice left a runner on 2nd.I am so sick and tired of hearing about his big improvement-he is still hitting .227. Which is unfortunately a lot better than Beltran,Didi,GJones. I went berserk when Petit was sent up to pinch hit, where was Arod? But then GeniusJoe did finally send him up to end the game. It would be huge if they could win the series tonight, in reality they are in last place in the AL East!! Got to run,Kate Upton is bringing me breakfast.

  3. hahaha two eggs over Big D, make sure the coffee has the right color and the toast isn’t burnt….

Yes big game tonight, hopefully Eovaldi is up for it… We’ve also seen Norris stymie the Yanks… McCan’t is really wearing thin, what a waste of $85M….

  4. Listen boys, Kate & I just finished breakfast, and we’re about to go for another roll in the hay. But before we do, a couple of observations. After seeing the graphic last night on Shane Greene’s performance, I couldn’t help myself and had to include a late jibe on Cashman for letting this kid go. It’s been well documented that I loved this kid last year. Young, throws hard, doesn’t fluster, & cost controlled for the next few years. Jeez! Why would you want to keep a guy like that??? So, they let him go. And for what? A SS who looks lost? Sir Didi has been a bust at the plate so far, and he’s had several brain freezes that have cost us. Another move by Mushman that ain’t lookin too good right now. I don’t like McCan’t. There were several times last night where he had pitches up & out over the plate and didn’t offer. Only to try & pull the inside pitch either thru or over the shift. Disgusting! They made a HUGE mistake not signing Russell Martin for a lot less money & created a domino effect throughout the team. Another guy that I don’t think should sign a long term real estate deal is Garrett Jones. So far he hasn’t shown much in limited playing time. I think he’s outta here before the deadline.

  5. hey bondsie… Francesa put the maloka on Jones when he said he was gonna be a huge addition to the team… Francesa wouldn’t know Garrett Jones from Quincy Jones

I have some faith in him but your caution marker has been noted, I wouldn’t necessarily by a house in New Jersey if i were “Jonesie”…His defense in right field alone is a bummer

Greene will be monitored, and we’ll be the first to pat Cashman on his mush head if this works out

  7. Hey Sal, just heard Heyman on the radio with Benigo & that other knuckle for a head Evan. In talking about Greene, he said the Tigers were shocked! Shocked that they were able to get Greene. That he was available. And, the MLB guys he works with thinks he’s going to be a star! We’ll see. Btw Sal, I’ll see you this Sat, son!
