Price Gouging In Detroit

with 11 comments

“In a game like this against a guy like that, we got him good,” Petit said. “It feels great.”

Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at Comerica Park, Start Time Weather: 76°, that’s the last time David Price faced the Bombers, before last night’s Price gouging that is, and in that  debacle Price coughed up 12 hits and  8 runs.

Even more amazing, the Yanks mugged him in the 3rd inning with  9  consecutive hits, ( 7 singles, 2 doubles) before he could register an out, which he never did, so his eventual line was 2 innings, 12 hits, 8 runs, 18 batters, 68 pitches.

The worst part of that beating was Dave Dombrowski got to  see Shane Greene dominate the Tigers for 7 innings, 5 hits, 8 K’s, and we know how that  worked out…

Fast forward to last night, same place, but 43 degrees colder with  snow flying, Price managed to get deeper into  this game, he actually got an out in the 3rd inning, but not before the Yanks racked up 10 hits and 8  runs off him that led to  a 13-4 Bomber win

With  a little bit of luck the Yanks could conceivably be working on a 7 game winning streak leading into  their head to head Battle of NYC with  the Mets on Friday..  A 2-1 loss on Monday has been their only blemish since leaving Baltimore last Wednesday

Last night Price threw 51 pitches in the first inning and the Yanks scored 6 runs, the key hit in the frame was an 8 pitch tug of war between Price and Headley. The Tiger Ace was 1 pitch away  from  escaping with only 1 run intact but with  the snow flying intensely, Headley somehow drove a knock to left field to  score the Bombers 2nd run of the inning.

The straw that  took down  the camel was a mind blowing bases clearing double by the Flying Gregorio Brother, Greg Petit, who  launched a 2-2 change up over the head of left fielder Yo Cespedes.. The SNL moment of the evening was when Price was ordered to  intentionally walk Petit after a pair of 2 out triples by Beltran  and Headley in the 2nd inning

Walking Petit was the final  vote needed to  give the Rodney Dangerfield Award to Didi Gregorius, the other half of the the flying Gregorio Brothers who  have  killed the Bombers bottom of the order, not to mention the duo has taken baseball defense back to  the early1920’s when baseball gloves were the size of mittens

Adam Warren, not one to make a fellow MLBPA union member feel left out, ( see Warren  and Brett the Face TV commercial) allowed the Tigers to  get back into  this game in his half of the 1st inning by  giving back 4 runs. Four walks,  two  singles and a force out did the damage, with only Avila’s knock leaving the infield

Warren  finally righted the ship  and snow shoed his way  to  5.2 innings, 5 hits, 4 runs, 4 BB’s, 3 K’s 5.40 ERA.. Warren has 4  pitches and profiles as a back of the rotation  starter, and last night was more suited for the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race then a ballgame, so  you’ll never convince Cash-Brenner to put him back in the pen where he belongs, but Warren  as the Yanks 3rd Monster Head out of the pen can’t come soon enough for this cowboy

At the moment the Bombers would need to insert Rogers in the rotation  and Whitley as the long man out of the pen, then  get rid of either Carpenter or Martin, but that’s a move for another day once Nova and or Beano Capuano  are ready to pitch. Carpenter pitched well last night in garbage time as did Wilson, and Shreve closed out the game, so  the Bombers got 3.1 innings of scoreless relief pitching from  that  trio

Every Yankee position player starter got a chance to  dance last night, Young had 3 more hits, Teixeira slammed his 5th Hr, Rodriguez got off the snide with a knock and 2 walks, Ellsbury got his 1st RBI and 2 hits, he also  took a 90 MPH heater off the chest, probably a good idea to  give him a seat today

5-6-7 in the order, McCan’t, Beltran, and Headley went 6 for 15 with each player racking up  2 hits apiece. Even the Flying Gregorio Bros at the bottom of the order went 2 for 6 with 5 RBI’s and 3 BB’s

The Yanks could really shock the world if somehow Tanaka and company can  take the series with a win this afternoon.. At the moment with Boston losing to Tampa the Bombers are 1 game behind the $190M Little Engine That Could

So Today

Yankees: Masahiro Tanaka will start on a normal four days’ rest for the first time this season as the Yankees wrap up their 10-game road trip on Thursday at 1:08 p.m. ET at Comerica Park. Tanaka threw seven scoreless innings his last outing.

Tigers: After giving up five home runs over his last two starts, Anibal Sanchezwill try to not only keep the ball in the park, but on the ground Thursday afternoon when he takes on the Yankees in the series finale.

  1. wow that was fun, not so much in Warren’s first inning but once he settled in he was good….hard to judge anything in that weather, just glad the W went in our books and not theirs

Big game for Tanaka, let’s see if he’s as confident pitching to these beasts as he was to the Rays in a controlled environment.. tigers look like they’d rather be someplace else

Somehow the Yanks have managed to keep Cabrera at 2 for 10 in the 3 games, let’s hope he stays asleep for 1 more game.. Despite Sanchez not pitching well, that guy is really good, but the boys are brimming with confidence, maybe all the Met chatter has put a chip on their shoulders

looks like tough pitching match up’s in Ny…. deGrom, Harvey, and the lefty Niese, but let’s get this one first

  2. The Yanks gave me a nice birthday present the last time they pounded Price, last night was a huge surprise.
Warren almost did his best to give away a 6 run lead but like the $999 special he is,got back on track and stayed long enough to get the win. Big game for Tanaka today,we will find out if he has returned to his form from last year. Bernie Williams finally decided he was not coming back so he will officially retire!!

  3. I dont ever want to hear that David Price is elite. When a loser like Petit hits a bases clearing double off you its over. Its amazing what a difference a week makes, last week they were 3-6 and looked headed for the toilet, now they are over .500 with a chance to take 3 of 4 from the “AL Champs” according to MLB Network after 2 weeks…..Should see the Z team today giving everyone a rest for a day game after a night game, hope the yanks keep it rolling.

  4. hey Boys.. i’m with you on Price, Ricky, I wouldn’t give him what he’ll get as a FA, he’s an albatross contract waiting to happen… His pace makes Buchholz look like Wade Miley or Buehrle, two pitch pitcher that will lose velocity on the back end, let him go to the NL

    $999 special hahahaha love it…

  8. Probably couldn’t get a read on a steal, wasted Gardner’s AB,great hustle sequence by the doughboy

Good point by flash, had to use Betances in the 7th, all RHB coming in the 9th….that’s where they needed Warren, or start trusting Carpenter and Martin

    Petit again, check his urine
