O’s Clobber Cash’s Clunker

with 27 comments

cash-for-clunkers-

As expected the Yanks were running smack  dab into  a recipe for disaster  on Saturday afternoon, grinding out wins in game 1 and 2 afforded them  sole possession of first place thanks to  a 19-11 start, but they used up  just  about all of their bullets securing both  games, so  yesterday  they  were shooting blanks

After running the touted Super-Hero Duo of Betances / Miller, and their underbelly set up  crew into  the ground for 7.2 innings over the first  2 games of this Buck O’s series, combine that  with  the Bombers pallid offensive numbers during day games, (The Yankees are last in the majors with a .187 average in day games)

Toss in one of the premier Cash For Clunkers starters $1000 car Chase Whitley and that recipe for disaster turned into  an Emeril Lagasse special as the lifeless Yanks lost game three 6-2

Just the day before Kevin Bandwagon Kernan jinxed the boys by writing they  were now the favorite to  win the division, of course his follow up  today is well unfortunately the line-up  was thin without A-Rod imposing his will on MLB pitchers, and with a lefty on the bump, A-Rod not batting third compromises NY’s chances of winning!

How’s that  for a 180, 3 months ago the media was pining for a circus, ARod wasn’t expected to make it to  April, now they  can’t win  without him..?

In case Kernan didn’t watch Saturday’s game the predominately LH hitting Yanks had 5 RHB’s in the line up

“Let’s Be honest” they  could have had 9 RHB’s in this line-up  and it still  would have put a silencer on their offense’s Big Bang Theory after Whitley managed to  take the air out of the game and the Mall on Rivera Avenue with  his worst  clunker of the young season..

OK so be a wise ass as say wait until he has a few more outings, this one will look like a King Felix game

I bet the merch stores and the restaurants did a hell of a business though, after all, I’ve seen more life on Pluto  the ninth planet in our solar system then we saw on the field  yesterday from the Yanks. It didn’t stop Paul O’Neill  from being as self centered annoying as ever though. Glad I had that SAP button inserted on the workshop’s 18 inch  B&W ( Este equip apesta) for sure

The Reverend Whitley wasn’t all bad, in fact he started out really good, punching out the side in the first inning, sans a single by Jones. He walked Chris Davis to lead off the 2nd, and right there a bright red flag went up outside my shop, the inning stayed clean but walking Davis after what  we’ve seen the first 2 games, was a premonition ?

That’s fine, Davis  historically owns the Reverend ( .600 / .667 / 1.800 / 2.467)  so he pitched around him, but got the next 3 batters so we still had a game, and Young in the first (double) and Pirela in the 2nd (single) looked like maybe the Yanks would eventually get to  Cy Chen

With  two outs in the 3rd inning Everybody Loves A Paredes, a kid Cashman  traded for Fat Elvis Berkman back in the day, drilled a low inside fast ball into  the right field bleachers for a 1-0 lead.. The pitch was in the exact same location as the Bomb he hit off Eovaldi on Thursday night, only this one went further quicker

That  Tater had fans running to the novelty shops for Moose Armor before somebody out there got hurt

Chen punched out Murphy and the Yanks Batman  and Robin duo Ellsbury and Gardner for a shut down bottom of the  3rd inning and the game briefly  stayed 1-0

We put a fork in this debacle in the 4th inning after Chris Davis traded in his Golden Sombrero and that wet newspaper he’s been swinging for a 36 ounce Louisville Slugger and he smacked a Big Fly off an  87 MPH cookie into  the right field seats, 2-0

Whitley apparently had Marvis Frazier syndrome after that  clout and he hit Pearce.. After a  6 pitch F/ 8 the one time DFA’d Cuban, Al De Aza flicked a meatball  change up into  the right field seats for a 4-0 lead

A lead off double, another HBP, and a Delmon the Racist Young single made it 5-0 in the 5th..

BTW Good job by Mushnick ( see link)   calling out Young, maybe Al Sharpton should take off his Obama knee pads and get busy educating Mr Young )

The Yanks got on the board in the 6th when the bottom of the order Headley single, Drew double, and Murphy sac fly interrupted a rocking chair outing by Mr Chen

Whitley was credited with at least eating some innings by the WFAN radio crew???  I guess next to Adam Warren’s excellent adventure on Friday, Whitley’s 5.2 innings, 6 hits, 5 runs, 2 BB’s, 5 K’s, 3 HR’s, 3.06 ERA was considered a stout performance.. Meanwhile the Cash  for Clunkers program, Phil Eovaldi, Adam and Eve Warren,  and the right Reverend Whitley  still hasn’t gotten through a full  6 innings in this series

Lucky for the Yanks their two  basement bridge troll clunkers former Atlanta Braves castoffs David Carpenter and Chasen Shreve were on mop  up  duty and kudos to  those two  guys they  didn’t implode.. The duo  put up  3.1 garbage time innings, 3 hits, 1 run, 4 K’s

The Bomber offense was pretty much lifeless with out Ellsbury and Gardner setting the table, they  went 1 for 10, with 1 run scored, 3 K’s and they left 5 men on base.. The Doughboy’s hitting streak  was snapped, he did reach on an  error that plated a run

The team overall  was 1 for 9 with RISP and they  left a small  village of 9 men on the pillows..

Beltran  took a break  from filming the new Sanford and Son  HBO movie, and knocked in a garbage time RBI with  a single in the 8th inning

The Yanks scattered 8 hits, one a double by Young, Pirela had two  knocks, and everybody but the Doughboy  and Murphy had hits..

It’s ironic that Murphy had an RBI and Ellsbury scored a run, it was truly a dysfunctional afternoon for the sleep walking offense, but with the first  two  games in the bag, no Super Hero back  end of the pen on duty, ARod nursing  sore legs, and Whitley opening the flood gates early and often, this was a day off for the buzz kill Bombers…

My condolences to the poor bastards who paid the freight for this abortion at the Mall on Rivera Ave

If Cashman  thinks he’s getting to  the playoffs with  this crew of starters, I have  a few low end hookers we can pawn off as Ashley Alexandra Dupre for him to play  around with..

Better go  find a few payroll dumps that  can  actually eat some innings Cash. Hal  might have to  swallow some of those profits he’s salivating over, this division is winnable, just ask Kevin Kernan, he’s got the whole thing figured out

  2. Yesterday was a big X on the Yankee calendar. The Reverend Whitley was probably working on today’s Serman in the dugout between innings, and lost the focus of the game. Lol! But, you know what? If they pull out today’s game, that’ll be 3-4 from the Buck O’s . And if that happens, I’ll be a very happy man! A Happy Mother’s Day to all you mothers!!!

    • Then again with Bubba McCant up can blame Gardner for trying to steal a run maybe the ball gets thrown away or a passed ball McCant should be batting 11th

  9. The only good thing about the loss was that Betances and Miller got a day off, hopefully they will be needed today. The lineup Saturday was pathetic, there were 5 guys with averages below .200!!,no Arod,so
divine intervention was certainly needed.Mushnick had a great article about the anti Semitic mfer delmon pos young-along with his usual bash of Francesa. GARDY getting thrown out at 3rd today was just absolute stupidity,no reason for it. Yanks won the first 2 games of the series, need to come out of their coma and start hitting Norris, everyone else does.

  18. Hahahahaha

Amazing how hard it is to pitch 7 innings with pitch counts ruling

Pineda might not even get through 7 almost rather see pitching to contact, but his stuff is flatting out at 104 come on kid 1 more out 15 k’s phenomenal

  20. Amazing performance!!! 16 K’s!!! I was there on June 17th 1978, the night Guidry struck out 18. Must be amazing to witness!!!

  21. Here comes the chump brigade, Cashman really needs to get some better arms in the pen, Rogers getting banged around, the O’s can rake and the underbelly relievers are pedestrian at best

Now Betances has to work from the stretch after warming up once

Yeah they said Guidry threw 138 pitches never see that again

Boom Betances punched out the Racist, amazing what a drop off in talent there is after the big two

Hopefully he goes to Miller despite no save or maybe he starts with Wilson and hopes he can get the last 3

They need this game so should be interesting to see what they do. Betances got it done with about 8 pitches

Man I wish they would have signed robertson or at least put warren backin the pen nobody goes 7 innings anymore or very rare

  22. Wow Garcia just blew Gardner away ok last inning

  23. Betances in the 9th that fucks up tomorrow, but let’s worry about today

that prick Buck is making his guys take pitches got Hardy on 6 pitches 1 down

Just throw it over D-bet Prickface has his guys taking pitches

15 pitches two outs nice play by Drew saves a bunch of pitches

Come on D-Bet air it out 1 more strike

Wow what a hook 23 pitches Rogers really messed up with his inability to close it out with a 5 run lead…

Great win. See you Buck you prick 1-5 hope you enjoyed your visit

Boston beat Toronto, Need Texas to take out Tampa and its a good day for the standings

  24. Hey Sal, that’s why I was screaming all winter for them to sign both Miller AND Robertson! Then, WOW! What a bullpen they would’ve had!!!! But, Cashman, Hal, Levine, and Trost went I the cheap! When Beano comes back, they should put Warren back in the pen & look around for something else. Maybe bring up Lindgrem?

  25. http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?player_id=524968#/gamelogs/R/hitting/2015/MINORS

Looks like Montero is doing well at Tacoma, good thing because it was looking like Jack Z got taken by Cashman

Heard Robertson blew a save today lol.. we jinxed him…Cashman should start to beat the bushes for an innings eater and figure out how to get at least 4 guys Girardi can trust day in and day out

the worm is turning in MLB, guys barely get out of the 6th inning anymore, might be better off inking 4 guys in the $7 to $12M range and they’re strictly pen guys.. If GM’s stick with the he’s not good enough to be a starter so put him in the pen mentality I think they’re gonna get burned
the value of 80 innings from a bull pen guy is premium

At this point if Betances and Miller are the only earners they’re gonna get burned out

    I found this article coincidentally..

  26. Klapish makes all very cogent points. They need to prepare to solve the obvious problems that will definitely arise as we go deeper into the season. Got pummeled from behind on the Cross Brnx Expy. Waiting for a tow truck to take me to my body guy’s garage. What a fuckin nightmare! Just got off the phone with Don B. If it wasn’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all!!!
