Murphy’s Law Bites Bucky

with 23 comments

The Blue Jays, O’s are starting to heat  up, the Rays continue to play with a chip on their shoulder, they’re also  a young team  so  they’ll  stick  around for a while, or maybe the whole season, we’ll have to  check in with the Horse’s Ass Mike Francesa, but after the humidity cleared in Baltimore the Yanks were still in 1st place by a whisker

If only he had a sense of humor about himself. … Friday, Mike Francesa, as per rumors about Milwaukee’s Aramis Ramirez to the Mets, declared Ramirez shot; too old, slow bat, etc. That night, Ramirez was 3-for-4 — three doubles, five RBIs.

The Yanks continued their Jekyll Hyde season by winning 7 in a row then losing 3 in a row before finally resting enough relief pitchers to  win a damn  game… The Red Sox always the smartest kid in the room keep losing despite them spending $195M on Fenway Fats who might be  their biggest bust since Carl Crawford and the only player in history who  could make Manny Ramirez look like a Mensa candidate, the Lazy Slug Hanley Ramirez

The Yanks remain  percentage points in 1st place, “Let’s Be Honest” first place in June is like Donald Trump’s hair in a wind storm, it could just  blow away

But

Thanks to  a Jr Murphy clutch 2 out  2 run  double in the 5th inning and the solid work from 4 relievers, Adam Warren who  got through  the 1st 4.2 innings, Chasen Shreve the next 1.1 innings, Justin Time Wilson 2 innings and Betances who  we haven’t seen since Joey Daycare freaked out over Andy Miller’s arm falling off sometime last week, closed it

Maybe it’s a good thing Joey didn’t pinch  hit for Drew when Bucky Baseball yanked his kid starter and brought in  Lefty Brian Matusz to pitch to  3 consecutive LHB’s… Drew made one stellar play on what looked like a lead off single off Betances to  start  the 9th, he made a sort of routine 4-3 putout that  would have challenged Pirela if he was still here, or possibly the defensive whiz Ryan for the 2nd out.

Thankfully Betances after pitching scared to Manny Machado  who  walked, twisted pinch hitter Matt Wieters into  a pretzel  to  finally win the damn  game 5-3

In case your were frolicking in the sun, or nursing a hangover from chasing Latino hookers on Saturday night, The inning in question was the 5th  when Mike Mr Wright, the goober who is a top Buck O’s prospect loaded the bases on 3 walks with the the O’s up 3-2

Bucky Baseball finally walked to the mound with a hook and brought in Matusz who  had just  gotten out of jail  thanks to  a pine tar bust..

Common  knowledge was to  replace Jones with Young who  has good splits vs LHP, .340 / .417/ .679 / 1.096

but in the 1 PA vs Matsuz, Young was punched out so Joey stuck with Jones who never faced the lefty and he miraculously worked a walk, the 4th in a row, to  tie the game at 3-3

Matusz predictably punched out Drew and Gregorius, that’s where you wanted to  see Pirela  but he’s in Pennsylvania, and the O’s were 1 out away  from getting out of a bases loaded jam and only coughing up  1 run… Murphy got ahead in the count 2-0  then smashed a line drive double down the 3rd base line to plate the 2 winning runs

Hit(s) and Run(s)

The Yanks scored on a single, (Gardner) and double (Teixeira) in the 1st.  They loaded the bases in the 2nd but only got a sac fly (Gardner) the 4 walks and the 1 clutch knock in the 5th  sealed it

Warren battled, but he ran  up his pitch count and the future third head in a soon to be stellar bull pen only lasted 4.2 innings..

Joey didn’t like the way his pitches were arriving to  the plate and he brought in Shreve who popped up  the dangerous Reimold to  end the 4th inning

Shreve gave up  a walk  but got through the 5th.. The co-star of this game was Wilson’s 2 solid innings, 3 K’s, bridging to Betances who  closed it

This and That

The biggest  asset the Yanks had in yesterday’s win was possibly the two  beat  downs on Friday  and Saturday, it allowed the only 3 good relievers in Cashman’s pen to be rested.

If that  ain’t a reason to make a trade and get Warren  back in the pen, I don’t know what is..

See if Cincinnati will  bite on Pirela, Sanchez,  Williams and or Flores, and Mitchell  for Johnny Cueto

Never happen, the Reds will  want Severino  and Judge for their Ace but we should be be reluctant to  cough up  the 1st Paint the Black package no less the two  top prospects for a guy  you might not re-sign.. Cueto  will get max money in the off season, and Hal  won’t do it, although he should, for some Free Agent Ace type  could tip  the scales for the Yanks who need both a stud starter and a stud reliever.. Warren  fits half the bill, money and the loss of a few blocked prospects might take care of the rest

For a day  and hopefully moving forward, Shreve / Carpenter for Banuelos worked out. Carpenter was always a question mark despite McCann thinking he could fix him… With some of his numbers escalating in 2014,  the red flag was up on Carpenter, and once you saw he only had a fast ball  with not much movement, poor location, and no  secondary out pitch, he was a poor man’s Machine Gun Kelley, and destined for the Suitcase Simpson award

Shreve has not allowed a run in his past eight appearances. He got his second win of the season today, and he’s held opponents to a .097 batting average during this eight-game scoreless stretch. “I thought maybe my arm was, not hanging, but a little worn down from that 19-inning game,” Shreve said. “And it’s finally coming back. My velo’s been down from last year, so it’s finally getting back up, and I think that’s helped.”

Manny is pitching really well, at AAA for the Braves, but we won’t  be able to  tell if he’s figured it out for real until Hart brings him up  to pitch for the Braves varsity.. The Yanks could sure use a starter, but was / is Manny the answer? In this era of 5 /6 inning starters, the pen is really important and Shreve has a few out pitches and a supposed rubber arm that  seem to  work well.. He also has decent splits vs R and LHB, in fact he’s better vs RHB then LHB

We will  get a bird’s eye view on Tuesday  as the battle of Thousand Dollar Cars comes to  fruition, Eovaldi  vs Phelps.. NJ.com has a tale of the tape RE: the trade, it came out before Prado’s injury and the fact  NL.com picked  the Marlins the winner might have been pre-mature.. A dominate Eovaldi outing might sway the what have you done for me lately press corps

The Yanks kept choking with the bases loaded, but finally the 5th  time  it came up in the O’ series Murphy broke the snide with his game winner in the 5th inning.. The Yanks had them loaded twice on Friday  with  nothing to  show, once on Saturday, and twice on Sunday before breaking the spell

Tanaka vs Koehler

Eovaldi  vs Phelps

  1. nice win but with the pen needing 4.1 innings now what? Tanaka needs to pitch 8 and hand it off to Betances who threw 17 pitches yesterday

I was against it but now the Yanks not might, but have to get a stud pitcher here… Sabathia is toast, he’s a loogy at best.. He might get that off speed working on occasion and find pay dirt for 6 innings, but how many 88 MPH fast balls up do they have to see before they bite the bullet?

Not having Arod in the line up sucks… lucky they face Phelps who they need to destroy.. This kid tonight has a sub 2 ERA at home, on paper sounds like a long day…… Go get em Tanaka earn that $175M

  5. Even money wager today (if I wagered) that Mikey 21 stills says that Toronto is shit. If they get one more starter–watch out. The Donaldson for Lawrie deal was a steal.
The Tigers sent Greene down. I am not going to cross Dallas any more. Nor any less.

  6. Great dance routine, Sal. thanks for the drop. The old guy got a little tired at the end. Sort of like big Grand Papi if he ever hits a triple again.

  8. haha hey boys Noogsie and mBb when I saw this video I laughed for 4 hours, thought I’d have to call my Doctor…. glad you boys enjoyed it.. mBb I figured you had seen it, the knuckles you know have passed it around… At about 1:30 I thought he was petering out but he was just calling in another blue hair to complete the 3-some

On my way back from picking up supplies heard Mikey’s monologue, he acted like he’s breaking news that the Jays are a juggernaut, this ought to be good how he fixes the Mets, but my guess he spent most of his sports watching the NBA last night

He is right about the Reds although the only guy on the Reds he has heard of is Chapman…. Jockety will have a lot of teams looking to grab Cueto, who will want a Grienke type contract, don’t see Hal going there.. Our only hope is for a rental, teams might not want to give up anything, but Cueto getting traded mid season eliminates him warranting a draft pick so Greinke money is a given

Too bad, that’s what we need, Cueto, unless his shoulder or arm can’t remember which is banged up he was babying it for a few starts

as for Toronto so true if they get one of these big pitchers they are gonna be tough, only thing that could stop them would be an injury or two.. Martin has really made them tough, what a mistake not signing that guy…

  9. Man! How long have I been screaming that te Yanks shoulda signed Martin instead of McCan’t. Which has impacted the team immeasurably money wise & roster wise. Another, in a long line of bone-head moves.

  10. Mikey: if Headley Is hurt you don’t use ARod at 3rd base you use AHHHHH which-a-ma-call-it ahhhhh the back up SS

Hahahaha good job Mikey, good job having your finger on the pulse of the home town team
Let’s talk more Cleveland hoops nobody in Ny cares about
No wonder soccer gets 50 times the ratings on his tv show

  12. unbelievable mB, actually it isn’t, mikey has the airwaves hijacked.. He basis his show on media ratings and the NBA is getting really good ratings, thankfully hockey is completely off the radar in NY so Mikey has bailed on it

  13. This is why he’s become almost unlistenable. I suffer thru the football season, then it’s hockey, & now basketball! He spends as little time as possible on baseball even DURING the season! I switched over to Kay. He opened with hoops, but I KNOW he’ll spend a lot of time on baseball. Mikey’s a joke!

  15. Mikey had Mushman on for 25 minutes, and we learned absolutely nothing that we haven’t heard before. Mikey would ask a question & Cash, that’s what he called him the entire interview, would hit the tape button for the conventional answer. Boring!

  16. One funny thing. When Mikey went down his list of questions to ask, when he got to the Beltran question, he called Cashman, Ed! Nobody caught it & Cashman let it go. Too funny!!!

Tanaka San needs to miss some bats or something is gonna book a flight

      DP’s work too

  17. Tanaka pitched decently tonight. But, a couple of mistakes cost him. The anemic bats didn’t help. But, Ijust saw something I’ve never seen before. Carter Capps. Anyone see this guy? As he delivers the pitch, he pole vaults off the mound towards the plate! Amazing! Plus, this guy throws 100 mph!!! Complemented with an 82 mph curve! Wow! Ya gotta stay in the fastball, if you don’t , you’re done! It’s that simple. Impressive!!!

    • Yeah just what we needed a freak
Never saw anything like that either

The next time Girardi picks up the phone in the dugout, instead of calling the bull pen he should call Cashman and tell him to get him somebody who could pitch

      June 15, 2015 at 9:38 pm

  18. Pretty amazing, huh? It’s really remarkable how many guys today throw 100mph! I mean, Outside of a Sudden Sam McDowell, nobody threw as hard as that when I was a kid. Btw, WTF is Joey Baseball doing putting Ramirez into this type of situation??? The kid spit the bit.

  19. Yeah that guy is a freak,, weird barely legal lethal delivery

#40 Santos just opened my eyes,
bases loaded and he gets 3 outs,,
    nice to see finally,,

  20. Santos got run out of LA Donny, but for 1 night he got himself another outing… Don’t fall in love with him though, Cashman is just picking up other GM’s extra baggage waiting for the deadline, there’s a reason these guys all get DFA’d
