Dallas Does The Yanks
Dallas Does The Yanks
With the Astros going 13 innings in Thursday night’s loss to the Angels, Ace Dallas Keuchel took the high road after carving up the Yanks and pretty much said his motivation wasn’t inspired by beating the $200M 27 time World Champs, it was to save the tired bull pen, so he just went out and pitched his 3rd complete game of the season whitewashing the Bombers 4-0
What a guy, he did it all for his teammates, the complete game, 9 innings, 6 hits, 1 BB, 12 K’s No runs, 2.17 ERA was the wanna be Smith Brother’s 3rd of the season, juxtaposed, the whole Bomber team combined has one 8 inning complete game by none other then CC Sabathia, a 2-1 loss against Detroit in April
This and That
In the last 7 games the Yanks had been on an offensive roll, batting .353 with 19 home runs, getting 13 or more hits in six of them, they’ve also become Ace killers taking out, David Price, Justin Upton Verlander, Jacob deGrom, Felix Hernandez, Max Scherzer and Cole Hamels so they flew to Houston breathing fire, sort of..
The silver lining next to they don’t have to face this guy again for a while, Keuchel never busted the speed limit last night, he may have touched 91 on the gun, so there is hope for Sabathia who will never see past 92, and Tanaka who lives 90 / 92, an occasional 94 now that his elbow has a minor glitch in it
You don’t need the high octane cheese to be successful, you just can’t bogart the plate too often, something every Bomber starter falls in love with more often then not.. Maybe Sabathia learned an old trick from a new dog last night
The Yanks didn’t get a runner past first base until the 9th when they loaded them up off a tiring Keuchel.. With 2 outs ARod singled, Teixeira walked and Beltran singled, bringing up Jose Pirela who mashes LHP. Unfortunately the mashing came to a halt against this kid, and until his big moment in the 9th, Pirela was 0-3 with a punch out
They elected to stay with Keuchel despite Pirela’s splits being favorable vs LHP..
Of course Joey Binder then brings in McCann as a pinch hitter, so Houston wisely stuck with the kid stud pitcher vs the wide eyed masher who easily could and did expand the strike zone, and it paid off..
The young anxious Bomber left fielder flailed at an 0-1 low outside 80 MPH change up, the pitch had depth and was heading down and away, nothing a hitter could do with a pitch like that except roll it over
It landed in Valbuena’s glove for a 5-4 ground out to end the game.. It’s the type of AB you wanted to see a vintage Derek Jeter with a bat in his hands, but that was another time and place in Bomber history…
Their Grass Is Better
The one thing we were all sure to witness on this little weekend jaunt to Houston was something we all wish the Yankees were, Young, Talented, Energetic, and Emerging as the team of the future.. That ain’t happening anytime soon, the way MLB conducts their business, the more you lose the more you win
In this era all teams get revenue sharing from TV, but teams that tank games and sell off their high priced veterans in an effort to replenish their system with young studs will always look like the Astros do at the moment
All it took for Houston to have a buzz team was
The four years, the Astros just completed:
56-106, followed by 55-107, followed by 51-111, followed by 70-92 which, to Astros fans, had to feel like 114-48. It’s that the Yankees would never be allowed to put a product on the field even remotely resembling that.
When the Red Sox found gold thanks to the Dodgers taking bad paper off their hands in 2013, they parlayed that salary dump and new found payroll flexibility into a World Championship in 2013.. They looked really smart for one season, except they’ve finished in last place in 2012 / 2014, they’re in last place in 2015 despite trying to buy back their swagger this off season
The Yanks could have dumped Teixeira and Sabathia before the Red Sox flipped Beckett, Gonzalez and Crawford, but in NY the team isn’t allowed to tank a season, I guess the Steinbrenner’s feel that’s not in their DNA
They could have maybe flipped Cano at the deadline in 2013, possibly traded away Robertson, and Kuroda last yr once it was obvious they weren’t going anywhere… Instead the bought Headley, McCarthy, and Prado, and they still didn’t go anywhere, but they had to fake a playoff run in Jeter’s swan song money grab farewell season
The last time the Yanks looked like the Astros was 96, the next time they resemble the team in the other dugout this weekend might be 2017 / 18, that’s if they don’t trade away their future for more aging, just about, or soon to be past their prime players like Hamels, or rentals like Cueto and Jeff Samardzija
The free wheeling days of George Steinbrenner are now long gone, it’s common knowledge to even the casual baseball fan that every team locks up their young players. Teams like the Yanks can’t just pluck them from the nest anymore, not with $50M in revenue from TV sources padding the small market team’s pockets
If the Dodgers grab Cole Hamels at the deadline they’ll be close to a $300M payroll, at least until Zack Greinke opts out, and the $71M he’s owed comes off the books..
I’m sure Yankee fans despite the quick fix resurgence of ARod and Teixeira are tired of seeing retreads like McCann, Beltran, Sabathia, and to a somewhat lesser degree the injury prone Ellsbury and Tanaka holding the bean counting Hal Steinbrenner hostage
The Yanks aren’t gonna be the Astros anytime soon, but if they stand pat and suck it up they might infuse some youth to go with Tanaka, Pineda, Ellsbury, Gardner, Betances and Miller in an effort to bring back the Glory Days of 96 / 98 / 99 / 2000
that Smith Brother wanna be averaged 89 with his fastball good to see, Tanaka and Sabathia maybe have a future
time to bury the Red Sox while their heart and soul is on the DL.. a few more series losses and they’ll be dumping salary looking for prospects in 3 weeks..
Lets hope the Yanks who suck but not bad on the road can at least stay close with 3 wins in the next 6.. right now they’re only 2 games under .500 on the rd

The Astros are now reaping the rewards of absolutely sucking for years, all their top draft choices are now
coming of age. Yankee fans and owners would never tolerate losing 100 games/year for 3 years in a row.
We are going nuts after just not making the playoffs for 2 years. They just got out pitched last night,Warren pitched well, they just could not hit. They usually have trouble with lefty pitchers, especially with that lineup last night=Pirela in lf,the last time he played the of in the spring,he became a chalk out line on the fence, got a concussion and missed a month;Petit who was released by the Astros in the spring;Drew batting under 200=combined they were 0-10. I had to watch the Astros tv broadcast, they gave out beards and showed all the fans with them repeatedly,I had to turn off the sound. This morning,I was listening to Beningo/Moose,some imbecile called in and wanted the Mets to trade for Stenchiro!!-lol
Needless to say,it was not well received-lol

Shockingly, I am going to question why Gardner was not penciled in last night. He is one of the hottest hitters in baseball, who had played 13 straight games and Joey wanted to give him a blow after that long hard trex on the chartered jet, following a day game and then last night’s game. Does Cal Ripkin ever come to mind?
Joey pulls this maneuver all the time. Ride the hot hand, you jackass. If you want to play Young, there are still 2 other outfield spots. I am never in favor of sitting down a guy who is hitting everything in sight. I don’t give a shit about the lefty on lefty thing and the splits. When you’re hot, you are never overmatched.

Hey fellas spot on
My vote would have been Pirela 2nd base Young who is hot vs LHP and Babe in the line up Petit makes little sense
They just hate Pirela’s infield D
Let’s hope they can take 3 of the next 6

Saw a bunch of second guessing on Pirela batting vs the lefty
On the Axisa Twitter account
Kid mashes Lhp he did get a bit anxious but I’m glad he got a shot
McCant was a better option?

Yanks eked one out. The Astros pitcher lasted 3+ last start, their announcers were shocked he was shutting out the Yanks,as were we all. Finally Beltran and Jones singled and Young, who has a .400+ lifetime average vs the Astros & is from Houston hit a 3 run bomb, breaking the Yanks scoreless streak.
The 3 Musketeers=Shreve,Wilson,Betances=shut them down for the win!! The fkn rays lost to the sux in extra innings so now the Yanks are 1/2 game back, tied in the all important(lol) loss column!! Tanaka Saturday, lets hope he does a lot better than he did vs the Tigers!!!

Hey boys thanks for the run down only saw the score on the phone, read the wrap, looks like Young is paying off as is Shreve
Gotta give Cashman credit for those guys good pick ups especially Shreve, I guess Young too, all,he had was a bad month everything else has been really good and he ain’t hurt
I know it’s annoying but good to hear from the Astros announcers once in a while, as long as the Yanks are winning lol
Althoug the Rucco kid is good, and despite me saying bad things about Flaherty he’s good too
3-3 over the last 6 after the Keutchel whitewashing and I’m a happy camper, be better to come home 4-3 but let’s hope for 4-2 now lol
Thanks boys if you get the chance keep me posted

Alls well that ends well,Yanks won 9-6. Yanks scored 2 in 8th on GARDY walk, controversial play at 2nd where GARDY came in spikes high and Altuve dropped the ball and missed the bag-it was replayed, called safe-then after Arod popped out,Tex hit one off the lcf wall for 2 runs.Tex had been 0-4,including popping out with bases loaded in 1st inning.Wilson pitched the 8th,giving up only a 2 out single.Headley homered in the 9th,then Betances got the save,Shreve was the winner. The only negative was Tanaka, not being able to hold a 6-0 lead.He did not look good to me,did not seem to be throwing hard,as they said in the movie Major League,”they’re hammering the slow crap”. In the post game,GeniusJoe blew off numerous questions about Tanaka being injured, just said his location was off,Tanaka said via translator he had a mechanical issue-no velocity-that he needs to work on. Anyhow, the Yanks won,so we have a few more days to worry about Tanaka.Yanks 1/2 game out, rays beat the sux.

Thanks fellas
Saw the wrap on the win
Had the game on game day radio
Until we had to split
Saw the Astros replays Tanaka had nothing
We’re finding out velocity isn’t as important as depth on the breaking pitches from the little I saw tanaka had neither
I just got back saw the Jones Gardner gaffe damn Jones got in the way despite Flash blaming Babe

Jones should never have been in the outfield today or anyday,,
Gardiner needs to call him off way before this,,

Pineda Is hanging everything at 80 pitches
Looks like He’s a 6 inning hero despite the amount of pitches
Sal
June 28, 2015 at 4:04 pm
At least Pineda pitched a good game
Another bomb like Tanaka San and we’d have two problems
Pineda is on again on again off again
So bad outing coming up too bad they wasted the good one
2 hits sounds like the boys ran out of grinding gas
