Tip Of The Day

The Yanks left Houston with a 2-2 split, that  ain’t bad  considering Masahiro Tanaka has all of a sudden morphed into CC Sabathia San over his last 2 starts, and yesterday  all  the offense could get off a former Met reject who entered the game with a 4.80 ERA was 2 singles and 1 run

I’m not gonna get on the older Yanks, they were simply out energized by the younger Astros who  had Carlos Correa (2 for 3 with two runs scored) a stud rookie and Collin McHugh, 8 innings, 2 hits, 1 run,  1 BB, 8 K’s, 4.51 ERA, and the Yanks didn’t

I think  what  you take out of game 4 in this intriguing series was PineTop Pineda’s bounce back outing, 8 innings, 7 hits, 3 runs, 2 ER, no BB’s, 8 K’s, no HR’s, 4.08

What  should bother you is the same thing your taking solace in, the fact Pineda threw a solid outing, which probably  means he’s do  for another stinker in 5 or 6 days, Oy Vey! Your also trying to  wrap  your head around the fact  both Bomber “Aces” were beaten, but at least one of them  kept you in the game

Of course Tanaka wasn’t around long enough to  get the loss on Saturday, his offense and bull pen bailed him out, he was simply beaten to  a pulp after giving back  a 6 run lead that left nothing but question marks sounding this $175M Ace turned enigma..

Maybe if the Yanks hadn’t worked so  hard on Saturday in an  effort to out punch  the young Astros 9-6, they may have had a tad more energy in this seemingly lethargic loss that saw them getting just 2 lousy singles off McHugh…

No  worries, when in doubt just file it under  the boys had their 2nd hat tipper on this trip

“I Got It” “I Got It”, “I Don’t Get It” ?

Brett Babe Gardner has simply been the best Bomber performer this year, he’s playing up  to the Ellsbury Doughboy’s contract, so  as we start  to  smell July, Brett the Face has officially become a poor man’s Ellsbury

Last nine games before yesterday’s 1 for 3:

21-for-42 (.500)
Two doubles on Saturday, his 12th multi-double game in his career
Four home runs
10 RBI
15 runs

Yesterday  the Face had to take one for the team when Garrett Jones a novice Left fielder distracted the Babe from  securing a routine F/8 .. Instead of an innocuous 2nd out in the 4th inning, both players yelled “I got it” at a fly ball to left center, unfortunately at  the last  possible second  they both  backed off the play, the ball hit the ground, the potential out turned into a double / 2 base error / inside the park run scored that  tied the game 1-1

No need to  check  the box for the Astro hero, it was rookie sensation Carlos Correa  hitting and running with the baton so he easily plated  the run after the mistake..Girardi threw his  potential All Star lunch pail center fielder under the bus at the presser

“It’s his responsibility, he’s the center fielder,’’ Girardi said of Gardner. “We have had a lot of different outfielders this year, communication is important and ballparks are loud, but it still no excuse. The play has to be made.’’

Blah, blah, blah, get a real  friggin left fielder out there Joey, hopefully by the end of the week, the Doughboy will be back in center field, moving the Face back  to left as the Yanks attempt to  get whole in the out field.

King McHugh

The Yanks could only muster 2 hits off McHugh who has been pitching better in June after stumbling through a 5.08 ERA in May.. He hasn’t been pitching 2 hits good, the Angels got 9 hits  and 3 runs off him in his last outing but the Astros put up 13 runs to  rock Anaheim  to sleep. Yesterday McHugh  proved  you don’t need to throw cheese to  win and be dominate, you just need to command your junk pitches, locate the glove, and run into  a tired offense on getaway day to be successful

Maybe Tanaka and Sabathia can stumble into  that  type of luck moving forward

The Bomber offense consisted of  a Drew walk, a wild pitch, and a Gardner RBI single in the 3rd inning.. ARod poked a single in the 6th and that  was it. Have a safe flight and a good night’s rest  fellas, nice job…

It was sickening listening to David Ice Cream Cone tout McHugh’s stuff at the YES Al-Jezeera post game.. Luckily for the Yanks Steven Matz had an  historic debut for the Mets so  all  the NY buzz went toward the Mets as they  continue to  bring up one stud pitcher after another, too bad they  can’t hit, it appears deGrom and Matz might be their two  best offensive weapons

For The Love Of Mike

After Pineda’s May 10th  16 strike out game vs Baltimore, it looked like the Yanks had in their possession the best RHP in the  AL East, maybe top  5 in all of baseball.. The only loss in his first  7 games was a 3-2 heartbreaker vs the Rays, he was sporting a 2.72 ERA and quickly becoming a weapon every 5 days

Then reality reared it’s ugly head and PineTop coughed up  18 hits, 12 runs, got strapped with two losses in his next 2 outings before rebounding with a 6.2 innings, 1 run, 8 K’s win to  end the month of May

It’s been a June Swoon for Mikey, he’s pitching to  a gaudy 5.27 ERA , 28.1 innings, 35 hits, 18  earned runs.. In his 5 starts this month he’s been in a consistent one good one bad outing sequence.. Yesterday  he did eat 8 innings, a must  with only two mops and a kid still  wet behind the ears available in the bull pen

Maybe the offense subconsciously just  shut it down, I mean  with Capunao, Rogers, and Rumbelow being Pineda’s only back-up, why grind out a long game, let’s just  mail it in, get on a plane and chalk it up to a tip of the cap day in Mudville

McHugh struck out eight in his second consecutive eight-inning start, retiring 17 of the final 18 hitters he faced.

“I have them the fourth game in the series and I think it works in our favor, being able to know the hitters a little bit, knowing their tendencies, what they’re trying to do, not trying to do,” McHugh said.

Now that’s a politically correct way  to  say, man I lucked out, these old dudes had about as much interest in grinding out AB’s as Paris Hilton has reading TS Elliot’s The Waste Land

Yanks head to Anaheim with Sabathia on the bump  tonight vs CJ Wilson, should be a real barn burner, glad the Yankee offense took Sunday off they’re gonna need a fresh pair of hitting shoes tonight

  1. I’m happy, 2 wins vs the Astros, with a bumbling Tanaka just going through the motions on Saturday, and the offense returning the favor yesterday

My guess, at full strength, in a must win situation they destroy McHugh, so possibly a nice decoy

the big story is really Tanaka, the Yanks aren’t gonna be able to spin their way out of his messes much longer, especially if he stinks out the joint in his next outing vs Tampa, then Boston

the rubber is gonna meet the road here for Tanaka San and Cashman right before the All star break

  2. Several weeks ago I was watching Loud Mouths on SNY with Chris Carlin and Adam Schein. I rarely watch the show and this particular show confirmed why that is so. Three Chin Carlin declared the 2015 AL East Title “over” and offered congratulations to the Yankees for winning it. Reason? Tanaka had proved he was back to being who he was the start of last year and there were no more doubts about him. Really?
Some of these talking heads have shit for brains and don’t seem to care just how foolish they make themselves look.
Whomever coined the phrase “In a New York Minute” sure as hell knew what they were talking about. A few more hits and Chris Young will be a candidate for the All Star Team and two more outings like yesterday and Matz–the kid from Long Island who had a great day pitching and hitting for the Mets yesterday–will be better than both Harvey and deGrom.
Back to yesterday—as Sal called it–another one of those “tip your cap” performances. Nonsense on that, too. Not only are some of these guys sleep walking during games–they’re also talking in their sleep. At least Mikey 21 has an excuse–he’s stoned on artificial sweeteners, taken in combination with ice cream, cookies, and Shake Shack Burgers—and he’s not responsible for the silly and sometimes angry clown he has become.

  3. I was just wondering why Garrett Jones was in left field especially when he had NOT played there in spring training or any game this season. What possessed our genius manager to do it? Especially after having Beltran
play right or more accurately just stand there and watch balls fall and go over his head without making an effort to catch them. But if you only get 2 hits and 1 run it doesn’t matter in the end. So the Yanks got a split, are now in 3rd place,.002 behind the O’s,the Jays are 1 game out. Back to the west coast, hate it!!!!!!

  4. hey Big D, yes what was Mr Jones doing in LF…? Good thing the boys took the day off, if that play had really cost them the game it would have been a heart break…. I just wish Joey would take the days off that Sabathia pitches and go full throttle when your best chance to win is on the mound….

I liked that line-up on Saturday, even before they put up 9 runs, I know lefty / righty….. Joey gets paid to think too much.. His presser was a nice relaxed day at the beach yesterday lol… Still waiting on him to go Hal Mcrae on these MFer’s hahahaha

  9. Laught out loud funny stuff. Mikey doesn’t realize he’s doing a comedy show. Too funny. Driving home from Mystic CT, I listened to the game with Ma & Pa Yankee. Just torture. Sterling never describes the play as it’s happening. Every play is done as a recap. Boy, do I miss Rizzuto & White. Informative & funny as hell. In the 4th tonight, Cap’n Crunch is up to his old tricks. Down 2-1. He’s not pitching badly, but when he makes a mistake, it doesn’t stay in the yard. Somebody see if Pettitte can be talked into coming back!

  10. Trout just might’ve saved this game, on both sides of the ball. Some kinda player.
