Trout Phishing

with 7 comments

Mike Trout went phishing, and he certainly acquired enough information on  CC Sabathia and the Yanks, the end result, Trout was a one man  wrecking crew last night, with a HR and two  spectacular catches  as the Yanks lost game one 4-1.. It was their 3rd loss on this 7 game road trek  to Houston  and Anaheim

The much maligned CC Sabathia was better then usual which elevated his mediocre status to an average at best  back of the rotation  starter.

Sabathia 7.1 innings, 6 hits, 4 runs, 2 HR’s, 5 K’s 5.59 ERA, pitched well enough to stay in the rotation without the media pushing Girardi over the edge.. That said, Sabathia could have pitched 2 innings coughing up 10 runs and he was making his next start.. Hal owes him a pro rated $23M this season and $50M over the next 2 years

The Angels plated a run in the 1st inning when Giavotella singled to center, and Pujols doubled him home for a 1-0 lead

Mikey Angel from New Jersey robbed Chris Young of a 2 run  extra base hit in the top of the 3rd to  temporarily keep the Angels up  1-0. ARod at least salvaged the inning by getting a 2 out RBI single to  tie the game 1-1, but the Trout highlight reel  catch probably saved Gregorius and Gardner from  clearing the bases and giving the Yanks a lead..

The Yanks had another chance  to hang a crooked number off CJ Wilson when Teixeira walked to load the bases but Beltran brought back  shades of the Met’s 06 playoff loss when he looked at  called strike 3 to leave 3 men stranded

Regardless, it’s Sabathia on the bump  and a 1 run lead wouldn’t have lasted long.. In the bottom of the inning, after being punched out on a questionable call strike 3 in the 1st inning,  Trout hit a bomb into the stone yard, his 20th, the 18th off of Sabathia and the Angels re-took  the lead 2-1

Babe Gardner doubled in the 5th, but Trout struck  again robbing Young of a run scoring double when he made another running over the shoulder catch on a hard line drive to  center… ARod walked but Teixeira grounded out to  end a threat..

Sabathia pitched a 1-2-3 4th, but he was back on point in the 5th  giving up  a single and another double to  give Anaheim a 3-1 lead.

Wilson left after 6 and the Yanks put  2 men on base off Gott in the 7th inning.  McCann walked, Gregorius picked up an infield single but the Bombers couldn’t get the clutch  hit when ARod grounded out with men on 2nd and 3rd and the game remained 3-1..

Sabathia got behind 3-1 in the count and just up  from the minors CJ Cron belted a HR to make it 4-1 in the 7th, it was a league leading 19th Tater off Soup Bone..

The Yanks picked up  a single by Beltran in the 8th but a DP erased him, and a Gregorius single in the 9th  but Babe Gardner ended the game on an F/7

The third inning was probably their best  chance to  break  the game open as they loaded the bases while Wilson’s pitch  count was rising quickly, but Beltran  calmly watched two paint calls punch him out, gotta waste those close ones Carlos…

Rumbelow mopped up 0.2 of an inning 1K, 1 BB, not hits or runs

BATTING
2B: Gardner 2 (21, Wilson 2)
RBI: Rodriguez (45)
2-out RBI: Rodriguez
GIDP: Pirela, Headley
Yankees RISP: 1-10 (Teixeira 0-1, Beltrán 0-1, Young 0-4, Gardner 0-1, Rodriguez 1-3)
Team LOB: 9

The Yanks outhit the Angels 8 to  6 but the difference was 2 HR’s by the Angels and Trout robbing at least 3 runs with great  catches on defense

None of these catches would have happened if the Yankees didn’t sign Teixeira.

AL OF wRC+ update:

1. Trout – 170
2. Cruz – 158
3. Gardner – 146
4. Bautista – 143

  1. Warren’s going back to the pen, how long until Severino comes up.. Last I looked he had 74.1 innings pitched, if they give him 3 more stars at AA you figure 6 innings eah that’s another 18 brings him up to around 94

His innings limit will be intact, not sure what that would be, but they should bring him up if he can continue to impress… Yanks need to get younger in the rotation and give Tanaka and Sabathia as much time as possible in between starts

amazing that your paying Tanaka $153M and you have to baby him and tip toe around his elbow issues

I thought Severinjo could be a good bull pen piece but it’s looking like he might be a potential starter, then maybe shif him to the pen if the Yanks can hang around a playoff berth in September

they better starry winning some games before Toronto Baltimore or Tampa take off, or Boston rises from the ashes.. I’m not that enthused about seeing Tanaka vs AL East teams in his next 2 starts, his last 2 outings have looked like Sabathia

  2. or Severini as Mikey Mush Francesa calls him lol

Mikey unfortunately has to grind it out and talk baseball while he mails in the last week of shows before his endless vacation… He’s praying for some football, golf, hoops, or horse racing news to break up the monotony

that Hamels sequence yesterday was priceless, and I love when he talks contracts, at least his useless producer should set him up with Cots baseball contracts on his screen..

Equally hilarious was the Hanley Ramirez would be a good fit for the Mets, he can play 3 positions lol…Ramirez was signed 4 yr’s $88M $22M a yr Wilpon would never pay that even if Ramirez could play defense, plus he’s just about on the DL with a bruised wrist

Ramirez is a walking DH, they hate his glove in boston, he looks like a drunk at the company picnic softball game in left field, has no range to play SS and my guess has no interest in 3rd or 1st base

The Nation wants him at 1st next yr, but I don’t think he wanted to play there, he wants to be their DH… Ortiz has a very doable $10M option for 2016 and another $10M for 2017, he’s no longer wanted now that he’s struggling, that should be an interesting watch ….

  3. Severini—to go along with wach-a-ma-call-it. Funny stuff, Sal. You guys have no clue how he butchers golfer’s names–especially the Europeans. Funny thing is that he never calls them the same thing twice.
I caught some of his endless trade talk yesterday. He shoots everyone else down and then keeps raising the most ridiculous one of all–Hanley Ramirez.
I also no longer wonder why Phil Mikelsen is Mikey’s favorite golfer. See the news today on Phil? He’s in the midst of a 3 million dollar gambling/money laundering caper. Mikey should be all over that today. Dollar to a donut he’s in Phil’s corner.

  4. hey noogsie.. lol I can imagine Mikey fumbling through the golfers, you can’t write that stuff, it’s priceless…

That’s good intel on Phil getting popped for gambling money laundering, wow… My guess 90% of his callers are his gambling fiefdom, 5% are guys like Artie Lang that call and spoof him and 5% are legit sports people, those are the ones Mikey pushes the off button on

Maybe those percentages are off a tad but, he hates talking baseball, you can’t gamble on it and he often explains why lol…..

  5. Harvey for Goldschmidt, Mikey needs to know Goldschmidt is signed to a team friendly deal with Relativity Baseball Agency

    14:$1M, 15:$3M, 16:$5.75M, 17:$8.75M, 18:$11M, 19:$14.5M club option ($2M buyout)

Harvey is a Boras client, with 2 yr’s service time making $600K, but he’s arb ready, and eventually your gonna have to pay him Boras money

I’d drive Harvey to the airport for that slugger based on who they have behind him
