The NY Streakies

with 9 comments

It’s probably not a good idea to  approach your boss and try to lobby your point of my way  or the highway over the longest tenured manager in baseball, especially when the team  your GMing has a 4 game winning streak..

Based on that lack of street smarts the best advice I could give my departing Gm is don’t let the door hit you in the ass

Looks like the riff between Angels GM Jerry Dipoto and Anaheim’s Portly Genius  skipper Mike Scioscia hasn’t affected the team’s play..

The dysfunctional  Anaheim Angels are one more win  from  5 in a row and sweeping the lifeless NY Yankees, the streakiest team in baseball who apparently left their bats somewhere between George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston and John Wayne Airport in Orange County

Who  needs analytics when a team comes to  town scoring 15 runs in their last 6 games, 9 of them  came in the one game their ace blew a 6 run lead.  In the last 3 losses the Bombers have compiled 3 runs, and there have been 4 Hat Tippers in 6 games the Yanks have played since leaving NY

They  couldn’t beat  a team with a kid pitcher making the 2nd start of his career, Eric Aybar batting 5th protecting Albert Pujols, and the team’s front office in complete turmoil

Mark Teixeira hit a long HR that finally Mike Trout couldn’t catch  up  to in the 2nd inning and Babe Gardner dunked a single to  center field the middle in the 3rd off Heaney 7 innings, 2 hits, 1 run, 7 K’s, 1 BB, 1 HR,  Smith 1 inning, Street 1 inning, and that was it

Not much  to  talk  about, except as we wake up  this morning the hottest team in the AL East is the Boston Red Sox, all  they’ve done since losing the Cafeteria Lady Hanley Ramirez and their midget leader Pedroia is win  3 in a row vs AL East teams.. Boston is now only 6 games behind the first place Rays and O’s, 5.5 behind the 2nd place Yanks and 5 behind the 4th place Jays

NY, Tampa, and Toronto  are on 3 game losing streaks, the O’s are on a 2 game slide, while the Red Sox are starting to surge with their Kiddy Corp and Clay Buchholz leading the charge…

The Yanks are now 20-23 on the road 21-14 at home, this road trip  can’t end quick  enough, and it’s finale is tonight with Nathan Eovaldi vs Matt Shoemaker

Ivan Nova made his 2nd start  after coming back from Tommy John surgery and as expected he wasn’t quite as effective as his outing vs the Phillies

Nova’s only debilitating blemishes came in the 6th  inning when Pujols and the guy Ken Singleton chuckled at in the first inning for being in a power spot in the line-up Eric Aybar smacked back to  back HR’s to lead off the inning.

Nova bounced back  to punch out Freese, but was finally yanked after Matt Joyce whacked a double off him..

Adam  Warren  came in to  throw 2.2 innings stopping the bleeding and giving the offense a chance to  catch up  to  the paltry 2 run lead but the Bomber lumber has been harder to find then Convicted killers escaping from a  Dannemora, jail break

Nova’s line looked good on paper, 6.1 innings, 2 runs, 2 BB’s, 7 K’s, but he coughed up  8  hits, 2 of them HR’s, and the Angels left a small  army on base especially with RISP

Angels RISP: 0-11 (Trout 0-1, Iannetta 0-2, Aybar 0-1, Freese 0-1, Pujols 0-1, Cron 0-3, Calhoun 0-2)
Team LOB: 9

Basically Nova was  channeling Houdini giving up  2 singles in the first, 2 singles and a walk in the 2nd, Trout led off the 3rd with  a single and stole 2nd base but the replay  called him out, not sure about that but the Yanks caught a break… Nova finished the inning strong with 2 punch outs, and had a 1-2-3 4th, he had to negotiate a RISP in the 5th, then walked into  the back to back Taters and the double in the 6th to end his excellent adventure

The general  consensus among the media was

Another strong start by Ivan Nova who pitched into the sixth inning and allowed his only runs on back-to-back homers by Albert Pujols and Erick Aybar. “Physically, I feel good,” Nova said. “Even that I gave up two runs, for me it doesn’t feel like a good outing because I want to win the game for the team. Like I said, it’s good that I’m feeling good.”

Not sure what  to  say  about the offense except judging by how streaky this team is in 2015 nothing should surprise you, even scoring 3 runs in 27 innings and having to  tip  your cap  to Brand names Keuchel, McHugh, Wilson  and Heaney

Apparently Beltran has an injured rib cage, good chance he gets a DL, he might be able to bat LH today, but good chance the Yanks could go  with  2 bench p;layers until Friday

Ellsbury’s return sounds like a potential  delay as he has become part of the Military heir-achy in NY…

He’s now not only being presumed by General consensus as being afflicted with General Soreness, he’s also now known as General Fatigue

  2. Yanks are in one of their offensive funks, its hard watching their pathetic at bats, inept offense costing them games and wasting good pitching. Beltran is now injured, maybe he will go on the dl for a while and give us all a break.
Ellsbury was shut down by “fatigue”-WTF has he been doing? I thought he was rehabbing, getting ready to come back Friday. What has happened to Heathcott? Williams? Where is Flores? If Pirela has great splits vs lefty pitchers why was he not in the lineup last night? So if he is not going to play vs lefties what fucking good is he? Why is he here? Its nauseating watching Didi and Drew bat, especially vs lefties. They are disgusting to watch, fortunately they have lost quickly so you don’t have to stay up too late.Tonights game will be twilight in LA so
it will hard to hit, especially for theYanks who can’t hit period. Warren is a victim of lack of innings history,so he had to go to the bullpen. Nova did not pitch poorly,he was houdini, but he often is,the lack of run support did him in.
The trading season will be upon on soon after the all star break,Cashman usually does his best work making mid season moves to remedy his screw ups in the off season.I hope he will do something about the offense, especially the middle infield. The division is ripe for the taking but they will not get it done with the dreck currently on the roster.

  3. hey Boys I wonder what Beane wants for Zobrist?

the mind did boggle with him not using Pirela vs the LHP, there aren’t that many LHP starters at least put the kid in there when one does come along

In my mind Ellsbury is on time, Rendon who isn’t as fragile was out 64 days with the same injury, Ellsbury 41 days so far, I would be shocked to see him this weekend, and surprised to see him in less then 8 weeks

Fatigue is a funny spin i agree, that said good chance he didn’t do any cardio for a month

The other thing we have to worry about is if Miller was at least on the bike keeping his legs strong, he did say all he was doing was sitting around getting fat

Let’s hope Teixeira doesn’t go down once they get whole, might be time for him to take a break for at least 15 days, then they hit it strong for the last 2 months

Really could use a kid up from the minors to give them a spark, I don’t think it’s gonna be Judge too young….

Severino in the pen August and Sept? Or sooner if Tanaka goes down for good, and Warren back in the rotation

Doubt they grab a real legit starter, those guys will cost prospects… i’d like to see Zobrist

he’s not killing it so maybe they can steal him, he can play a million spots on the diamond, and if he’s not injured he could go on a run

  4. Mikey Mush stating Neise was very good trade bait lol

    per Heyman
cubs did discuss niese (& everyone else) at some point but are not on him now. niese market less than robust at present.

Not a bad contract, can’t be any worse then Sabathia.. Wonder if the Mets want to trade lol

  5. I’ve been thinking Zobrist all season. But why not really step up to the plate & do something better. I know he’s on the DL, but why not go after Prado! We’re paying 3mm of his 11mm already. Make a small investment for now & the immediate future. Obviously, they’re not happy with the present 2nd base options here & in the minors, so let’s do something positive on a relatively small investment solving a problem for now & the immediate future. He would be a great addition on so many levels. And, he’s showed it last year when he elevated his game in this environment

    • Hey mB either guy works for me
I guess it depends what teams want
      Zobrist is a FA
Prado had a yr left on his deal
When I get to a commuter I’ll check it out

  6. #Mikey Pope us on a rampage today
The pitchas will run outta hear wit dis offense

Where they going Mikey, every one of them is under team control for years

Never mind the mets start to rough up you pal Cashman to get something done
Now that the bimbo got busted for holding him up maybe he’s feeling in a generous mood

    July 1, 2015 at 4:32 pm

Cashman bringing up a kid batting under .200

Flores has to wait 2 days before he’s eligible or fb beltran

  8. Prado’s deal would give us the rest of this year & next. Perfect. Not outlandish cost control for a guy who can solve our problem at 2nd base, & has the flexibility to play just about anywhere on the field. And, is a positive influence in the clubhouse & on the field. He elevated his game last year when he came to the Yanks, no question he can perform here. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense. Unless, there’s something I don’t know. Zobrist would be nice. Always liked him as a player. But he would be a 2 1/2 month rental, & the Yanks would still have to search for a 2nd baseman for next year. Getting Prado now, solves the problem for this year & next, & gives you tremendous flexibility within the team. They should be unloading money & players soon. If we pay his salary, maybe we can get him for a bag of balls & some of Don B’s brownies???
