Sole Sacrifice

The Yankee offense might be like watching ginseng  grow, but at least we were rewarded a reprieve from the boredom of waiting on a timely hit when Nate Eovaldi simply dazzled the jet lag Houston Astros, 8  innings, 4 hits, no  runs, 3 BB’s, 7 K’s, 109-71, 4.00 ERA, for a 1-0 walk off win to rid the smell of losing 3 of 4 to  the Indians

Asking for more then one run or even  one timely hit from this tuckered out offense would be greedy and selfish on our part, but  we are getting a rare chance to  witness the making of a MLB pitcher.

The Eovaldi Express who  hails from Nolan Ryan territory in Houston Texas, has transformed from a pitcher who  gave up  the most hits in baseball in 2014, to  the NYY Ace in 4 and a half months…

Of course the Yanks shuffle the “Ace” title around quite often, you can safely say  Pineda, Tanaka, Nova after his 1st start, Warren for a few games, and now the Evo Express have all held the informal  distinction

And who said Cashman knows nothing about pitching, he’s afforded Joey Claps 5 Aces so far this season, and at some point Luis Severino  might make it 6..

Back on  June 16th Eovaldi  had a head to head confrontation  with Thousand Dollar Car David Phelps, in Miami and Evo  was smoked for 9 hits, 8  runs, in 0.2 of an inning, his ERA was 5.12

Since that point, the Evo Express pitched  12 more innings in June, 35 in July and so  far 26.2 in August, a total of 73.2 innings allowing  24 Earned runs, that’s a 2.92 ERA clip..

His WHIP trimmed down to  1.17 in this time span and he’s only coughed up  2 HR’s.. The dude throws a split, to  counter the Triple digit heater

Unofficial total, I’ve read differing counts, but the differential is enormous even if you give or take a few from each pitcher

Most pitches 100 MPH+ by a Starting Pitcher this year: Eovaldi 21 Gerrit Cole 2 Gausman 2 Syndergaard 1 Carlos Martinez 1

Evo  compiled a season high 19 swing and misses,

8 on the Split, 8 on the 4 Seam Express, and 3 on an 84 MPH Slider

The difference, it seems, is the development of Eovaldi’s slider, a pitch that catcher Brian McCann called “a game-changer,” to go along with his blistering four-seam fastball and effective splitter.

“It gets him off his other pitches,” McCann said. “He locates it well. He elevates it when he needs to. It’s changed the way he pitches, and he’s only going to get better and better.”

Great night for Eovaldi, he only had two minor hiccups, the 5th  and 6th innings looked like he might possibly fall into  his routine of mid game drama, but he out grinded the Astro offense

5th inning

Valbuena walked. 0 0
Carter fouled out to first. 0 0
Conger grounded out to second, Valbuena to second. 0 0
Altuve walked. 0 0
González grounded out to second.

6th Inning

Correa singled to right. 0 0
Rasmus walked, Correa to second. 0 0
Gómez sacrificed to pitcher, Correa to third, Rasmus to second. 0 0
Gattis grounded into fielder’s choice to first, Rasmus out at third. 0 0
Valbuena lined out to center.

Evo would of had clear sailing in the 5th but Drew blew a potential DP, and E5 Headley rifled a misguided throw in the 8th that put Correa on 2nd base with only 1 out

Bird on a Wire

For every questionable decision like letting the errant Headley throw get by  him instead of at least keeping the runner from getting into  scoring position in a 0-0 game, Greg Bird makes a great play and we reset the evaluation meter.. In the 6th a walk  and single followed by a sac bunt had 2nd and 3rd with 1 out

Gattis grounded to  first, with nobody covering the pillow Bird ran  down Rasmus while holding Correa on 3rd and nabbed Goldie Locks Rasmus sliding back into  2nd base for a huge out saving a run

A Sac of Garbage to a Sac Fly

Dr Scott Feldman had the Yanks all off balance, it really was reminiscent of the Stephen Wright game, Yankee offense had no  clue how to  square up  the junked out stuff Feldman  was dealing them

If you’re a Bomber fan  you really think  your Offense stinks, but if you’re sitting in a Houston man cave  rockin your Mike Scott Retro jersey, you have to  be digging how this “Crafty Righty” was more deceptive then a Bernie Maddoff meeting..

The Yanks only managed 6 hits, 3 by McCann and 1 each  from Drew, Beltran, and Gregorius. They  scored the winning run in the 9th off  Ollie Fine Mess Perez  without the luxury of a base hit. Kinda sad really, I mean the Astros at least had an  excuse flying in from Houston after sweeping the Dodgers….

Pérez relieved Feldman. 0 0
Gardner walked. 0 0
Gardner to second on wild pitch by Pérez. 0 0
Rodriguez intentionally walked. 0 0
McCann walked, Gardner to third, Rodriguez to second. 0 0
Qualls relieved Pérez. 0 0
Beltrán hit sacrifice fly to center, Gardner scored. 0 1

Tale of the Tape

RBI: Beltrán (47)
SF: Beltrán
GIDP: Beltrán
Yankees RISP: 0-5 (Gardner 0-1, Rodriguez 0-1, Bird 0-1, Ellsbury 0-1, Headley 0-1)
Team LOB: 6
SB: Ellsbury (17, 2nd base off Feldman/Conger)
E: Headley (20, throw)
DP: 1 (McCann-Gregorius).

  2. We’ll speak of this no more. I acted too soon. Should’ve looked at the matchup before I handed over my endowment. Might afford me more time to scan the off field talent.

  3. Eovaldi is looking better and better. I am beginning to think that he may become something special.
All signs speak to Soup Bone being done for the year. I am sure that packing on 40 plus pounds didn’t help matters.
Gardzilla needs to keep bunting because he’s trending right to the back of his baseball card. A .265 hitter who strikes out a ton. Since when did the Mets turn into the Blue Jays?

      August 25, 2015 at 3:46 pm

  5. Bird on a Wire. Fuggin Brilliante, Sal,, 😆😆😆

“I want no harm to come to him while my Mother is still alive.”

  6. Its going to be a loooooooooong night boys!

    August 25, 2015 at 7:49 pm

  7. I’m at the game boys. 7 rows behind the 3rd base dugout. Before I had a sip of my beer, we’re down 5 zip! Should be 0-0. But as solace, there’s a lot of poontang in the stands that’s helping me take my mind off the score.

    • Hey fellas

Astros got a good night’s rest

When Cashman makes his calls this winter Nova should be a top priority in trade talks
He’s a free agent after next yr and there has to be a GM who thinks he can corral that upside
Kinda of tired of his act
Watching the Rangers just tied it at 3-3

Poor mB getting ripped off again at the Mall
      Imagine paying for this garbage

      August 25, 2015 at 8:53 pm

    • The good thing Sal, is this is on the company dime. Still, just torturous to watch. As far as the Nova thing, most guys coming back from TJ don’t really come back till the 2nd year. But, I would explore that anyway, with what we gave coming

      August 25, 2015 at 8:59 pm

  8. I know its 9-0 and about to get worse, but I just wanted to point out that “defensive specialist” Ryan made another error. Second base is a just a black hole for the team, and they refuse to do anything about it!!!

    August 25, 2015 at 8:47 pm

    • Yo Big D! I’m dying here at the game! 9 unanswered runs!!!!!

      August 25, 2015 at 8:55 pm

    • Lol there has to be a reason he’s here it has nothing to do with baseball

How sad was it watching Teixeira and Arod run?

Also the Yanks will do everything in their power to try and collect insurance
      On Sabathia
If they can prove he’s done they save $25m next yr
they have to eat his money or stick him the pen

Yanks could use to throw down to get some juices flowing home field advantage ain’t working

      August 25, 2015 at 9:05 pm

  9. Moscone, I feel for you!! I can tell you its not any better on tv!!!-lol Go on a beaver hunt, you’ll feel better!!

    August 25, 2015 at 9:04 pm

    • Lol

      August 25, 2015 at 9:08 pm

    • I’m way ahead of you D. Where I’m sitting, there is some serious talent! A lot of babes with their sugar daddy’s!!!!

      August 25, 2015 at 9:08 pm

  10. Hideous souless showing at the plate.
Ellsbury should by Nova a coupla suits, for that muff of the 3rd out.
Ivan lost focus next 5 batters.

    Hmmmmm, Bondsie ???? Uhhhhh,,, ummmm,

    August 25, 2015 at 9:10 pm

    • I’m dying here Donny!!!!

      August 25, 2015 at 9:13 pm

    • Nova’s a chump Donny

If was a quick 1 nothing lead you gotta stop the bleeding, he got rocked

Nova was always an enigma now he has a built in excuse TJS

He’s fine as a #5 starter but he’s much better flipping but your selling low

      August 25, 2015 at 9:27 pm

  11. Thank God mB glad it’s not your dime

    Curry is losing his mind
he wants Bird to play 3rd base
Kay confirming Tex will not waive his no trade so we’re stuck with the Gumbies again next season

    August 25, 2015 at 9:21 pm

    • Put Ryan on the bump or Pinder

Beano isn’t even a viable white flag

      August 25, 2015 at 9:32 pm

  12. Did they really just pitch to that mutt ??

In the parking lot yet, Bondsie ?

    August 25, 2015 at 9:32 pm

  13. ICYMI Column 3 with teams adding speed for stretch #Yankees have pro SB leader. Will they call up Mateo to be a PR?

    August 25, 2015 at 10:20 pm

    • I heard that was a distinct possibility

      August 25, 2015 at 11:23 pm

  14. Rangers led 5-4 going into 9th,their reliever blew it, lost 6-5 to the jays

    August 25, 2015 at 11:21 pm

    • Heard they tied it up on my way home from the game. Great! Now my night is complete!
