Mets Find Another Soft Target

with 11 comments

Gotta give the Mets credit, whenever they run into  a soft target they get the job done, in fact their whole NL East Division is a joke, hence they  find themselves just  days away  from clinching at least  an NLDS 5 game playoff  series

It doesn’t get much  softer then the line up Girardi  was forced to use last night due to NL rules, injuries, ineptitude, and pretty much  disgraceful Front office decisions that  are based on profit margins not baseball needs

I’m not advocating  Hal  should eat  bad paper, but in an effort to make smart baseball moves the equally affluent LA Dodgers have done just  that in their effort to put a real championship  team on the field

The Dodger front office agreed to:

Payments from other clubs for 2015:
$ 3,900,000 (annual payment from Boston through ’15)
$ 1,000,000 (Jimmy Rollins)
2015 payments for former players:
$10,000,000 (Dan Haren)
$18,000,000 (Matt Kemp)
$ 2,688,910 (Ryan Webb)
$ 2,500,000 (Dee Gordon)
$ 124,795 (Dustin McGowan)

The Red Sox and Phils handing over about $5M evens out the  Webb / Gordon deals but as you can  see they’re eating over $28M in bad paper

For the 1 percent in Yankeeville that  think  the Bombers have a shot at  the Division or the playoffs, I have a silver lining for you to wrap  your weary bones in

Kan’t not Ken Davidoff has finally gone on record saying  the Yanks will now need help moving forward… Riveting journalism, that’s some insight Kenny, why, because he did the math !

Yes with the Mets crushing the Bomber JV 5-1 and Boston  playing with Pedroia and Fenway Fats on the bench while $20M a yr bust Rick Porcello got slapped around like an NFL player’s girlfriend up in Canada, the Yanks are now 4.5 behind Team Canada with only 3 head to head games left…

Even if it was still mathematically possible Ken,  you actually think a team  with Brendan Ryan, Stephen Drew, the insufferable barely above replacement level player Jacoby Ellsbury, a 22 yr old Double A first  baseman, a 3rd baseman  that  can’t field or throw, a right fielder with no  defensive range, the streaky to  a fault Babe Gardner, the 40 yr old Alex Rodriguez, and only one starter and with Betances on fumes, 1 reliever you can  count on to give you a decent outing is gonna sweep Team Canada?

No  the Yankees two  biggest  assets at the moment are 1: Team Canada looks around and with nobody even close to  their talent level, they might just fall  asleep, lose sight of the gas peddle and crash land?

Forget about that,  AL MVP Josh Donaldson with  a 5-1  lead last night ran to first base on a ground out to 2nd base like he just  robbed some old lady’s pocket book and his getaway  car was 4 blocks away, and Russell Martin who eats barbed wire for breakfast just aren’t going to let that happen.. Plus Bautista and the Parrot Encarnacion have that real Latin Macho  shit going on… Forget Canada, that  ship  sailed last weekend, they’ll beat on the Yanks the way  their spineless government beat on Baby Seals

2: OK how about the bumbling Astros who  can’t seem to  win a game, implode and choke away September, then NY doesn’t have to  face the Boogie Man Keuchel!!!!

Yeah  that might work, Yanks vs Twins in a 1 game shoot out might get NY to the LDS,  but don’t look now  Cleveland is only 3 games  behind the 2nd WC.. Yanks vs Cleveland, who  you betting on?  Me too, I bet the farm on the Indians pitching…

What’s gonna bug you today is this illusion  that Steven Matz Stymied the Bombers last night.. Here’s a memo  to  the Flushing Toilets, if Matz was facing a real playoff team he’s knocked out in 2 innings and change the way he was over throwing in the first  2 frames..

The Yanks  never really hit the ball hard but they had Matz on the ropes in the first  and 2nd inning.. They did scratch out 7 hits in 6 innings, and  forced him to  throw 62 pitches after 3, it was a Chris Archer redo except nobody could get the big hit, sound familiar?

First Inning

Gardner walked. 0 0
Headley flied out to right. 0 0
Beltrán singled to right, Gardner to third. 0 0
Young hit sacrifice fly to center, Gardner scored. 1 0
Bird singled to left, Beltrán to second. 1 0
Murphy grounded out to third.

Gardner was a better choice to lead off, in fact they might want to  flip  flop  the Doughboy and at the Babe… The Doughboy   would have popped up  to left field on the 2nd pitch of the game, instead Gardner sent a message that Matz was gonna have to  throw strikes

Six pitches in Gardner was on first base with  a walk, but of course he stayed glued to  the bag instead of stealing 2nd base… He eventually got to 3rd with one out on a Beltran single to  right… Granderson has an Ellsbury rag arm  and Babe slide in ahead of the throw..

Young hit a sac fly to score the Yanks only run… Bird gave Matz fits taking pitches before blooping a single to left, but Murphy couldn’t keep  the line moving and was out on a 5-3 putout..

The Yanks picked up  two  singles in the 2nd but Headley couldn’t deliver the big blow

The Yanks went to  sleep until Headley’s 2 out single in the 5th, and they had a chance to break the 1-1 tie in the 6th  but when Brendan Ryan is the guy  you need for a big pennant race hit, that’s just  bad planning

Young singled to center. 1 1
Bird grounded into fielder’s choice to second, Young out at second. 1 1
Murphy grounded out to third, Bird to second. 1 1
Gregorius reached on infield single to shortstop, Bird to third. 1 1
Ryan grounded into fielder’s choice to shortstop, Gregorius out at second.

Daniel Murphy hit a 436 foot bomb off Tanaka in the 6th  to  take the insurmountable 2-1 lead.. The Bomber offense got Matz out off the game but crawled into  a fetal position vs Robles

Ellsbury flied out to left.
Gardner struck out swinging.
Headley struck out looking.

The Mets got a 2 run HR by Uribe off Chicken Shreve who  needs to  be put on R&R from over use and the Flushing Toilets had a laugher going at 4-1

The Yanks couldn’t touch the immortal Addison  Reed who relieved Robles in the 8th

Beltrán struck out swinging. 1 4
McCann hit for Shreve. 1 4
McCann fouled out to third. 1 4
Bird struck out swinging. 1 4

The Yanks actually got the tying run to  the pate in the 9th down  5-1 but Babe Gardner  went down on an F/7 and of course Headley struck out on 3 pitches to  end the suffering

Ackley hit for Murphy. 1 5
Ackley doubled to deep right. 1 5
Gregorius grounded out to shortstop. 1 5
Rodriguez hit for Ryan. 1 5
Rodriguez walked. 1 5
Pirela ran for Rodriguez. 1 5
Ellsbury reached on infield single to first, Ackley to third, Pirela to second. 1 5
Gardner flied out to left. 1 5
Headley struck out swinging. 1 5

Tanaka pitched good enough to  win, you have to  expect the HR’s, that’s what  he does,  ( Duda /  Murphy) and a few scores off Tanaka San but he had no  back  up on offense.. The Yanks continue to fake their playoff run today  at 1PM

Pineda vs Syndergaard

  2. Good job by the met mutt this morning killing Girardi on his moves
    Especially using Shreve Pazos and Pinder and not using Refsynder or Pirela but sticking with Ryan

    I’m not so sure the mutt is right about Mccann that was Koufax on the bump and Murphy shouldn’t have been overmatched
    And if McCann rakes the next 2 games it was the right call

    Girardi has sent the message he’s not going after Canada will rely on winning a wild card to say they made the play offs
    Yankee stadium should be boycotted until Hal starts to act like his old man or he drops the prices in the Bronx

  3. It seems the Mets take these games a lot more seriously than the yanks. There is no good reason to let Ryan hit in that situation if you really want to win.Tanaka did pitch very well,deserved a win but he gave up the Homer to Murphy in the bottom of that inning. Murphy said that Kevin Long gave him a tip that helped him homer.Why can’t we have a coach like that??? Duda was 0-14before his homer. I don’t blame Genius Joe for Shreve-who is fried &should not be seen again -&the other clowns in the pen,that’s on the gm for not getting major league relievers. Just another reason I fucking hate this interleague shit!!!!!

    • Donny…the best thing Phil Hughes ever did was sign in Minnesota.. He’s a decent starter who really belongs in the NL, but as far away from the bright lights the better… what he didn’t do is give up a game winning HR to Nick I’m batting .133 Franklin… Mike Trout beats the best of them
