Yanks 3 Away From A Wild October 6th

with 3 comments

The consistent and on going I’m the Smartest Man in the Room persona by Bomber manager Joey Binder continues to  bug us here at  the Paint, despite a 6-1 Bomber win over the hapless Chicago White Sox.. The W catapulted the Yanks Magic Number for clinching a playoff spot to  3

I Couldn’t agree more with  2 of my 4 consigliere’s

Refsnyder has been getting too many hits the last three games. Naturally, Joey Claps benches his ass.
Joey likes matchups. That’s why they will never win again with him there. Play the hot hand, you dumb shit.

How can you find out about a guy if you don’t play him for an extended period of time??? As Noogsy pointed out, they don’t know jack shit about him, and sit his ass down again. WTF? I don’t get it. If you only look at match ups, you’re NEVER going to find out about a guy! Unless you open with a 4-4 performance, you ain’t getting another chance to show what you can do, under pressure or in the clutch……if the match up isn’t right. Bugs the shit outta me too Noogsy. Joey Binder with blinders on.

The Bombers are heading toward the Wild Card game, unless, for some dramatic / cryptic reason, Pete Rose takes over managing Team Canada’s last 6 road games and Pete lays bets on them losing at least 4 of their last 6 to Baltimore who has totally imploded, and Tampa,  while the Yanks win 6 of their last 7… Team Mercenary’s Magic number over the Yanks for the AL East Division  is 4

Yesterday  the Yanks got a nice 6 innings, 5 hits, No runs,1 BB, 2 K’s, 99-67 pitches from rookie Luis Severino, who had to protect a soft 1-0 lead for 18  outs

With Severino’s assignment securely in the books, the Yanks finally tacked on 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th and Joey Binder went to  the formula with a 3-0 lead..

The best  case scenario would have been an offensive onslaught against the very vulnerable  Erik Johnson and a day off the the Pen’s Only 3,  but the Bombers displayed a totally inefficient offense with RISP through  the 1st 6 innings… Twice they had the bases loaded, in the 1st inning they  were juiced with no outs but could only muster a sac fly by McCann for a 1-0 lead

Two  singles and a HBP loaded them  again in the 3rd but  the offense came up  empty, and a lead off double and a BB went for naught in the 4th

After squandering huge opportunities to  blow this game open in the 1st, 3rd, and 4th  innings the Yanks tacked on 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th to  give the Pen some breathing room at 3-0

Ackley homered to right (378 feet). 0 2
Gregorius popped out to third. 0 2
Heathcott singled to center. 0 2
Ryan singled to left, Heathcott to third. 0 2
Ellsbury fouled out to third. 0 2
Gardner walked, Ryan to second. 0 2
Heathcott scored, Ryan to third, Gardner to second on passed ball by Brantly. 0 3
Beltrán walked. 0 3
Putnam relieved E. Johnson. 0 3
McCann struck out looking. 0 3

They picked up  another run in the 7th after Ackley and Gregorius started the inning by striking out, but  with  2 outs in the 7th Yanks made it 4-1

Heathcott walked. 1 3
Rodriguez hit for Ryan. 1 3
Rodriguez reached on infield single to shortstop, Bird to third, Heathcott to second. 1 3
Jennings relieved Putnam. 1 3
Refsnyder ran for Rodriguez. 1 3
Ellsbury singled to left, Bird scored, Heathcott to third, Refsnyder to second. 1 4
Gardner flied out to left. 1 4

With a 3 run lead after 7innings,  Betances pitched a successful, but laborious 8th… Thankfully the Yanks tacked on 2 more runs to make it 6-1 in the bottom of the 8th and it was just  enough of a cushion to  give at least Miller the day off

Beltrán singled to deep right. 1 4
Noel ran for Beltrán. 1 4
Noel safe at third on throwing error by pitcher Webb. 1 4
McCann struck out swinging. 1 4
Bird singled to center, Noel scored. 1 5
Headley doubled to right, Bird to third. 1 5
Gregorius walked. 1 5
Carroll relieved Webb. 1 5
Heathcott hit sacrifice fly to center, Bird scored. 1 6
Refsnyder struck out swinging. 1 6

The final  score didn’t indicate the frustration mounting by the offense’s inability to  get timely hits, especially early in the game, especially off Erik Johnson who  was trying to  give the Yanks enough of a run differential that  would have enabled  The Only 3 a day off

Yankees RISP: 3-19 (Beltrán 0-2, Heathcott 0-1, Gregorius 0-1, Gardner 0-2, Rodriguez 1-1, Bird 1-2, Ackley 0-3, Ellsbury 1-3, McCann 0-3, Refsnyder 0-1)
Team LOB: 15

Wilson coughed up  the lone run of the day  for the underachieving White Sox, a lead off HR by former Tiger prospect Avisail Garcia, a no  doubter 440 foot bomb

It took Betances 12 pitches to  get the first 2 outs in the 8th inning… He was up  to  16 pitches before finally punching out Abreu on 3 pitches to  end yet another bizarre outing for the Bomber All Star

D-Bet struggled to put Sanchez away, after being in the hole 3-1, he fouled off 4 pitches before lining out to SS, a 9 pitch  battle..Saladino went down on a 4 pitch  6-3 ground out,, Eaton smacked a double, before Abreu  was punched out on 3 pitches

Betances continues his Jekyll and Hyde outings, of wildness, then  brilliance that  ends with  favorable results.. The fact he using so many pitches to  navigate his inning(s) is disturbing, and it’s bound to catch  up  to him  and the Yanks unless the worm turns starting next Tuesday

With one foot on their plane out of NY, the other in the batters box, Mitchell got the South Siders 1-2-3 in the 9th  to protect the 5 run lead and the Yanks finally  won the Damn  Game

Boston  comes to  town for 4 games, hopefully we see Refsynder vs the 3 LHP’s the Red Sox  will  throw at NY… The obvious  M.O. playing the LHB heavy Bombers is toss LHP at them, you’d think Refsynder would be the go  to  2nd baseman, especially with Drew out due to  some freak dizziness

Ackley has done very well  since his call up so he’ll no  doubt replace Drew vs RHP, we just  hope it’s Refsynder and not Ryan at 2nd base moving forward.. Yanks aren’t going much  further then  a WC game so let the kid play, if he blows a defensive assignment so be it…  Cashman needs to  stop  the Drew, Ryan  insanity and get some real  offensive up-side moving forward, unless they plan on getting a high priced 2nd baseman we’re looking at Ackley and Refsynder at the Keystone in 2016

We’ve had enough of these supposedly defensive whizzes / automatic outs, the line-up needs to lengthen

Nova vs Rodriguez tonight

the Whole 9

  1. the fact Cashman has no backup plan for Headley might mean Ryan gets the nod on the playoff roster.. the only way Refsynder gets on the 25 man is Drew’s illness takes him down

I guess we have until Thursday to find out about Tanaka, despite Girardi saying it’s all good

With Street out we might want to light candles for the Angels to over take the Astros… Keuchel won’t be at home unless the Yanks totally implode but he’s still tough on them

Keuchel is 15-0 at home 4-8 on the road with a 3.82 ERA, that probably won’t matter vs the Yanks who can’t hit him at all

    so go Angels

  2. The offense has been bad all month,15 lob,2-13 with risp hard to take, not conducive to winning many games. But this is the team, its made it this far, hopefully it can make it to the playoffs. They are going to be seeing a lot of lefties the last few games, they need someone in the lineup that can hit,not Ryan. Severino should pitch the wild card game, who knows about Tanaka.Maybe they are even faking his hamstring injury,
just giving him lots of rest before the game. I never believe what they say,GeniusJoe is a pathological liar.
Yesterday is the first time we heard about Drew and his “injury” thats been going on for 10 days. Great investigative reporting by our media-lol No one bothered to speak to Drew or ask why he wasn’t playing!!
Probably just thought that GJ finally realized Drew sucks!!!-lol Yanks need to beat the sux and wrap this up asap.

  3. You said it, Sal. Let the kid play. It’s still not enough time to make a real evaluation of the kid, but let’s find out a little bit? As for the offense, or lack of, this thing has been going on since August. They don’t hit, especially against lefties. And when they do get RISP, they can’t get them in! Just horrible! At this rate, even if they get in, it’ll be time to pack the bags for winter in no short order.
