Cano Way? Wait A Second

with 8 comments

We can look  at the Cano  for Ellsbury rumor two  ways,

One…These types of things get started by the media, in an eftort to  generate something to write about this time of the yr with  the Baseball Winter Meetings still a few weeks away

Two…  The difference in player salary and over all AAV is much to vast to make the trade a reality..

But

Wait a second, we’ve had our crack(ed)  accounting staff take a look at the situation and have a solution

The media keeps saying Ellsbury has $105M over the next 5 yr’s remaining, but in reality it’s closer to $111M with  his $5M buyout, plus he makes $21,142,857.15 annually.

Cano also just turned 33 yr’s old in October so despite (inflation) $24M in 2016 not being what it will be in 2023, he’ll be 41 yr’s old, and nobody gets to see what 40 yr olds look like more then the NYY, it ain’t pretty

Somehow the money difference of roughly $81M would need to be worked out.. The Yanks aren’t looking to  add payroll  they’re looking to  cut it, so Seattle would have to take back $81M in expenditures

Sabathia will have 2 yr’s $50M coming, Gardner $38M, sending Ellsbury Sabathia and Gardner to Seattle makes sense financially, and all  $88M comes off the books  after 3 yr’s, the Yanks will have another  $120M and 5 yr’s of Cano

That  said to  get out from under Ellsbury, Sabathia, and Gardner I’d drive all  3 to Seattle

What  will  stall  this deal, or better yet  makes it a pipe dream,  Sabathia has a no trade that he most likely won’t waive, the Yanks have a love affair with Gardner and the return won’t be enough per the front office, and finally the Yanks don’t really like Cano

Back in 2013 John Harper wrote an  article stating how Cano  and Ellsbury would be forever linked, and 3 yr’s later sure enough the tea leaves have blosomed into  a full blown flower

Three days ago Harper had an article stating Van Slyke, the disturbed coach who  was part of the house cleaning in Seattle was off base making his disturbing remarks about Cadillac Cano and another jettisoned coach Rich Donnelly came to Cano’s defense

“I’m shocked to hear about it,” he said by phone Friday. “Robbie struggled in the first half but I would never say that he got us fired. We had a bad year as a team, and I give Robbie a lot of credit for coming back to have a great second half.

“He was dealing with some physical issues, and a lot of guys would have cashed it in. He worked his tail off to get back to where he wanted to be.”

We’ll look into Andrew Miller landing spots later today  or tomorrow, I’ve been  checking farm  systems of teams rumored to  want Miller like the Astros and trying to find a package that rivals the Boston / San Diego haul for Kimbrel

  1. The Astros are hot for Miller, they proved that last winter, but their top prospect is a SS, and their former #1 Appel has not been very good despite his pitching pedigree, so Cashman better be-careful on a trade with Houston

  4. Plus with our deal NY also loses $43M in AAV gets them under the Lux Tax….No brainer trade if your the Yanks
plus we don’t have to watch a CF er with a .663 OPS who plays half a season, see can get any ass hole to put up a .663 OPS

any kid on the farm making 500K can duplicate that

  5. Keuchel just won a Cy Young and he throw’s 89 MPH…. Cashman looks for hard throwers, how about looking for guys that can pitch?

And Pineda and Eovaldi are here because they’re cheap and needed to be fixed, so they were available, who is Axisa kidding, these kool aid drinking NYY pundits are too much

The two guys on his list that might sneak through are Heaney from Anaheim and Salazar from Cleveland.. Although Gardner isn’t getting us Salazar or Carrasco, and they have Lindor and Kipnis so Mateo is useless to them..And Anaheim just unloaded the farm for Simmons so Mateo is dead to the Angels too… Heaney isn’t coming to NY for Miller or Gardner, or i’d be shocked if he does i should say anything is possible, we gave the .663 OPS Doughboy $153M

Your still giving up Judge to get any Cleveland pitcher not Anderson but the Yanks have 4 Anderson’s, not an upgrade

The only good coming out of all this Gardner BS is the fact he’s not as good as Cashman and Girardi think he is, and is trade value is living proof…I doubt teams are clamoring for his services

  7. Loved seeing Bartolo still getting major league batters out in the World Series 87mph not a Yankee heat artist but he pitched in November didn’t he ?

  8. • He’s no longer with the Yankees, but Jose Pirela‘s winter ball stats are always fun to look at. Still playing nothing but left field and occasionally designated hitter, Pirela is hitting his usual .356/.427/.481 with more walks (13) than strikeouts
