Zimmermann To Tigers

The dominoes will  start  to  fall for this yr’s Free Agent pitcher crop

Jordan Zimmermann  from the Nats just  inked a 5 yr $110M deal  with the Tigers.. At least it’s not the Giants Cubs or Dodgers who  are still in play  for Price

Price to Boston is looking good, although does he really want to play  with Ortiz?

AKA the drunken uncle at  your family  cocktail party  that you roll  your eyes at

One thing that has to change with negotiations this winter for a new collective bargaining agreement is the formula for calculating the luxury tax. Big-market teams are getting the short end of the stick, while mid to small markets reap the benefits. The other relevant topic, brought up by agent Scott Boras two weeks ago, is teams being rewarded for tanking it. Boras is right: a team obviously trying to lose should not be allowed two consecutive years of top 1-3 picks.

So  that  would mean the team Nicky covers, the Boston Red Sox who in 3 of the last 4 yr’s have tanked and were  rewarded with allowing the Dodgers to  take on a Quarter of a billion in bad contracts in 2012

Then trading off their 3 best  pitchers at  the deadline in 2014 Peavey, Lester, and Lackey

And last yr not signing an Ace caliber pitcher, but bringing in 4 middle of the rotation pitchers and not supplying the bull pen with  adequate arms to  compensate

They  also  flipped Napoli, and finished last  for the 2nd yr in a row and 3 of the last 4 yr’s

Their reward a #6 draft pick, paying $63M for Yoan Moncada, and building a top  3 farm  system that  without scratching the surface of their elite prospects were able to land Kimbrel in a trade

We can only hope they spend $220M on David Price, every team  needs at least 3 Albatross contracts, they  already have Sandoval  and Ramirez,

Hopefully they’re not allowed to hand Ramirez off without being penalized, than k God the dodgers have come to  their senses in an effort to find stars

That Gonzalez, Crawford, Beckett and Punto for prospects who no longer work in Boston 3 of the 4 have been DFA’d by their current teams, 1 is a back of the rotation pitcher in Arizona still bugs the shit out of me

To  their credit they did sign Sandoval  and Ramirez plus hand Porcello  an extension that  borders on pure stupidity

I guess the MLBPA was starting to  get too close to home and ready to  pounce on them like the did to Houston and Pittsburgh

  1. Loved the line about every team needs 3 albatross contracts. Between the Doughboy, McCan’t, Beltran & Son, Texiera, Capt Crunch, & Headley, I count 6. How did we get so lucky???

    • lol…We’re special.. Boras is pissed the Yanks aren’t spending, CBA needs to move that Lux Tax penalty up to $210M after next season…

wonder what the MLBPA will give back in that negotiation?

    • True Dat! The 189mm has been outdated for a while. Especially, since over the last few years, teams revenues have been tremendously spiked by the influx of TV from the regional networks. Now, everybody can play in the Yankee sand box. This movie bears watching.

  2. Boston fans think Chris Young is worth 3 for $24M or 2 for $14M… He can’t hit a lick vs RHP, he’s 32 yr’s old, he wants a starting job but how can any GM give him a starting gig?

Young made $2.5M for the Yanks, $7M per for a 4th OF is steep.. If Boston lands Price or Cueto that $30M budget Dombrowski shot his mouth off about will be eclipsed… Kimbrel already ate $13M of it, Cueto will eat $22M of it and to think They’d give Young $7M now their $20M over Dombrowski’s budget if they land Price
