Are Then Yanks Now Camden North?

with 5 comments

For a few days now I’m wondering if one of the best go to MLB pundits Sensie Joel Sherman has eaten too much  Turkey, Pumpkin Pie, and has washed it all down  with Bill Madden’s liquor stash over the weekend?

Yesterday he wrote the Boston Red Sox acquisition of former Bomber 4th out fielder Chris Young could possibly be an insurance policy so  they  can  trade off Jackie Bradley  or Rusney Castillo in an effort to snag that illusive Ace they’re going to get

My guess,  Bradley isn’t bringing back any of the pitchers   being mentioned in trades that  fit that  bill..

Carrasco,  Miller, Salazar, Gray, Sale require hauls, and Boston would need to  throw in one of Betts, Bogaerts, Swihart or Rodriguez.. That’s like asking Cashman to  throw 2 of  Bird, Judge, or Severino, in a deal  that  sends Gardner or Miller packing

Rusney Castillo is owed $56M over the next 5 yr’s, which  at face value isn’t bad, but he’s spent most of his time at AAA trying to  adjust  to  MLB

Castillo will be 29 in July, so he’s not one of the younger Cubans to defect to  the USA, in fact Boston is one more  mediocre yr by Castillo from labeling him a potential bust

The teams rumored to  flip top of the rotation  young cost controlled pitchers want to rape your farm system, or take back players with yr’s of team  control that  have proven they are above replacement level contributors, like Bird, Betts, Bogaerts,  and Severino  for instance

Bradley and Castillo  are the next level down in that “touted Boston Core” They’re nice complimentary pieces but not a featured piece in acquiring an Ace..

Chris Young is a good 4th out fielder, in fact he may have been one of the best last season, and if you throw in the money Cashman paid him, $2.5M, he was probably the best  value in that  4th OF category

If you have to play Young everyday, the warts vs RHP will  start  to  appear, in fact Boston better keep Brock Holt close by if one of Betts, Castillo, or Bradley go  down  for any length of time… As we saw in NY, Young playing everyday  can get frustrating

Young is a weapon vs LHP, Boston inked him for 2 yr’s, the amount hasn’t been disclosed, but it could be a bargain at 2 yr’s for $10M ($5M) or a steep price 2 yr’s for $16M ($8M per)

What’s sad is the Yanks had little to no offense vs LHP, Young was one of their best, and over money, Cashman let him  walk.. Hicks has decent splits vs LHP, .307 / .375 / .495 / .870,  but not as good as Young..

He is younger, does have potential  to  grow, is a switch hitter, a better defensive player, but the real  reason he’s in NY is his cost, $500K, 4 yr’s team control, yes he’s cheaper then Brendan Ryan

Is he any good?  Who the hell knows, we’re gonna find out, but the point of our discussion is Young isn’t gonna replace any of the present Boston OFer’s as a starter, and the Yankees front office has turned into  the Baltimore Orioles or Camden North if you will

King Of Comedy

If Jordan Zimmermann getting $110 million from the Tigers across five years pushes free-agent pitching dollars upward, the Yankees’ interest in Jeff Samardzija and Wei-Yin Chen could dissipate quickly.

Not sure Zimmermann didn’t under sell himself here, GK 3 is making it sound like Zimmermann donned a ski mask  and held up  poor Mr Pizza Mike Illitch

If Zimmerman  would have waited for the Big Bird David Price to fly from the nest first for his rumored $220M, the other smaller vultures  like Zim, the Cafeteria Lady Cueto, the Shark, Chen, Kazmir, Iwakuma, etc all become more valuable..?

Zim actually signing for $110 and just  5 yr’s, hurts Cueto’s quest for Lester  Tanaka money ($155M) Now Boston might land Cueto  for 6 for $132M

Anyway  the premiss of GK3’s article reads like the Scott Boras check  cleared and he went on a rant about Chen being a better pitcher then Cueto

King conveniently cherry picked Cueto’s worst ( his time in KC) and made Chen out to be Whitey Ford

“Chen is the best of the second-tier pitchers and better than Johnny Cueto,’’ a pitching evaluator with an AL club said of the lefty, who was 11-8 with a 3.34 ERA in 31 games for the Orioles last season and is 46-32 with a 3.72 ERA in 117 career games.

Once again the message we as Bomber fans are getting,  all  these  Free Agent pitchers are too  expensive, and the Yankee front office has morphed into Camden North

We need Mark Cuban  to  buy the Yanks, or maybe when Trump  bails out of the POTUS race, he makes Hal  an offer he can’t refuse

The more I’m thinking about it, the more I’m agreeing with Axisa’s article that money is being printed by the truck load in these ball parks.. OK so it’s too  expensive to  take your kids to  a game, but they  still  go if there is a buzz

Even if you don’t storm the turnstiles with over priced tickets in your hand, your watching on TV, or in my case spending money on MLB’s APP, so  the TV revenues are skyrocketing. One way or another we’re junkies in a $10 Billion dollar shooting gallery, and if Hal is really smart he’ll feed the frenzy

Remaining status quo isn’t gonna create the buzz required, look at Toronto KC, Houston, Pittsburgh, Texas, in 2014 Baltimore, and no matter how bad the Red Sox are in any season, there is complete and total delirium when your Hometown team is creating a Buzz

  1. Most Boston fans think the Cubs will have their plate full with Lester and having to extend Arrieta rendering Price too expensive

The Cubs can smell it after 90 yr’s or whatever it is, they have money a new TV deal coming and Price has lineage to Maddon.. Plus imagine the pedestal these guys would be on if they finally win in Chicago!!

Epstein isn’t linked to any pitcher besides Price and the Shark… the shark on his own ain’t gonna move the needle, they need Price, which works four us in NY he doesn’t land in Boston and they either have to empty the farm in a trade or they go after Cueto who will cost them, plus with Porcello making $20M per addf Cueto’s 23 to 25M there’re done for a few yr’s spending money, at least until Ramirez (3 yr’s $66M) and Fenway Fats Sandoval 4 yr’s $74M comes off the books

  2. Hi, my name is Moscone Bail Bonds, and I’m a junkie! I just got out of the Betty Ford/Don B Halfway House For MLB Junkies. I’m not cured. Every day is a struggle to stay away from sites like this. I’m jonesin for any info on what the Yanks might or might not do this off season. Sal, you’re an enabler. When that new post arrives in my email, I just can’t stay away. And if the Yanks don’t do anything significant this off season, I’m likely to end up right back there in a straight jacket. So Hal, Trost, Levine, Cashman, I’m begging you, please do SOMETHING to move the needle (poor choice of words) forward. In the meantime, I’m taking it one day at a time.
