This cold infection I caught on the road won’t leave so we’ll have to lay low and try to kick before heading to California at  the end of the month, so  the office is sort of closed.

Enjoy Xmas shopping

Found ARod’s Twitter account

Thanks to Mikey 2 Chins for the drop, and talk  about a guy making the most of a 2nd chance

ARod could be Manfred’s right hand man or a candidate  VP for the next POTUS

Good News

Phillies sign Andrew Bailey and Edward Mujica, team announces..

Why is this good news, means Cashman  won’t go  there. Those types of deals are right up his alley

Middle Inning Mania

Good article by Mikey 2 Chins making the worst of a bad situation… The ideal bull pen Miller,Betances, 3 multi innings relievers,  1 shuttle, 1 mop

Nova and Mitchell  could be 2 of the 3 middle innings guys, I’d think  they need a LHP to be the 3rd…Nova and Mitchell and the third wheel  could eat 100 innings each…

They  all  stay  stretched out because we know the Glass Jaws, Sabathia, Pineda, Tanaka, Eovaldi plus Severino’s innings limit will once again keep  the Bombers from  going deep into  games

The Shuttle and the Mop?? Cashman  has a whole farm  full of those guys

Best job in NY will be the Shuttle Driver from  the Bronx to SWB..

200 stations and Nothing On

Tough day  to be under the weather afternoon on MLB is Rose  and Millar who  are a worse listen  then Boomer and Carton / Beningo  and Evans combined

Kay and his lap  dog La Greca are also unlistenable/ unwatchable

# longing for the days of Art Rust Jr and Mike and the Mad Dog

Blinding Me With Science

If #Dodgers indeed had issues with Iwakuma’s physical, one option would be to rework his three-year, $45M contract, lowering guarantee.

“Let’s be honest” back in the day my guess a lot of players had dings and scars and nicks a inflammation and etc etc but they played  regardless, beats working in a clothes store or selling cars…

When you ink a 34 yr old pitcher, WTF do  you expect to  find  on the  results of his physical?

So  a few conspiracy theories here… 1) Friedman as Rosenthal  points out lowers the guarantee and Yr’s but  with incentives… Remember when Boston  pulled that off with Napoli? He ended up making more money lol

but it was a good idea based on his hip physical

2) Friedman realized Iwakuma wasn’t the right move so he’s doctoring the X-rays or making a big deal  about a small issue so he can  bail on the deal

In the works a deal  for Jose Fernandez, especially after grabbing 3 more prospects in the White Sox / Reds deal

Rumors are swirling the deal  breaker is Cory Seager, Friedman  doesn’t want to include him, can’t blame him we’re looking at  the new Longoria

The 3 guys LA got back  are now slotted #4 #8 and #16 in the Dodger system,

Pederson  or Puig, Urias, Montas who  was the Chicago  top  pitching prospect, Van Slyke, and one other top  10 prospect

Keep  knocking Friedman, that’s how Alex Anthopoulos nab be Donaldson is the biggest  robbery in MLB history…

High Heat

I did get a chance to  finally see high Heat… Mad Dog is still  a nerd but I like the fact he interviews MLB people one right after another.. He needs 6 1/2 hour show not his old buddy Mike Francesa, who along with the rest  of WFAN who is insomnia’s kryptonite

Red Flag

A tell  tale sign that Red’S GM Walt Jockety had lost his mind wasn’t his anemic return on Todd Frazier, which might rival  the Billy Beane  / Donaldson  trade but when he gave Joey Votto

10 years/$225M (2014-23), plus 2024 club option
signed extension with Cincinnati 4/3/12
14:$12M, 15:$14M, 16:$20M, 17:$22M, 18-23:$25M annually, 24:$20M club option ($7M buyout)
award bonuses, including $75,000 for All-Star selection
full no-trade clause

Votto will be collecting a king’s ransom until 2023..He’s owed more then Cano

Votto  will be a 39 yr old first baseman when he’s 39 yr’s old

  2. Arthur George Rust Jr.
“The Big Ballyard in the South Bronx”
You could listen to him after the excellent post-game show with Messer and White.
AGR Jr would keep me company all the way up the Truway.
    Best ever,,

  3. Sorry to hear you’re under the weather, Sal. I’m rounding 3rd in the cold/cough I’ve had for the last 3 weeks. Loved listening to Art Rust Jr’s late afternoon/early evening talk fest. He had some strange regular callers. I seem to remember, somewhere near the end of his run, that there was a mini-scandal over the authenticity of said callers. But he was a great listen. What do we have today? A million stations with nothing on. One bad host after another. And to add insult to injury, the incessant football talk at this time of year, is making me suicidal! If Cashman doesn’t flip those 2 kids he got in the Wilson deal, I’m gonna have Willie Cicci go over to his house, chop him up into porterhouse steaks, wrap him, and toss the pieces into the Gowanus Canal. They’ll never find him. Please don’t tell me we gave away a very productive 7th inning guy to save 1.5mm!!!! This is the NY fucking Yankees for crissakes!

    December 18, 2015 at 12:17 pm

    • Sal is a common name, like Matsui in Japan
Bartlett sounds like my brother in law
If he had a sense of humor you couldn’t tell the difference
      Wish he would do Francesa
Rich Little was the best for me but Bartlett is my favorite in this era

I have the original of this bit before TV
      Really good, pre politically correct
I’d like to dig up the black Beatles it’s on a cassette
      Great stuff

      December 18, 2015 at 2:33 pm

    • Little known fact, Sal. I used to do gigs with Bartlett back in the day (early ’80’s??), at a comedy club before I went to my regular gig. Play 20 minutes, warm up the crowd, & bolt. At that time, appearing there, before they were known, were Rosie O’donnell, an 18 yr old Eddie Murphy, Ray Romano, the guy from Night Court, & others. By FAR, Bartlett was the funniest! You’d be crying from laughter! One of his best bits was the one armed Hispanic Carvel owner from the Bronx. Hilarious!!!

      December 18, 2015 at 2:49 pm

    • Forgot to tell you, I took my daughter down to Rockwood in Tuesday to see Scott. She dug it. And, Scott is signing on to become her guitar teacher. She wants to learn. She used to fool around with my Martin. She played the clarinet in HS. So I got her a guitar for X-Mas. Asked Scott to recommend someone, cuz I thought he only took on advanced students, but surprisingly, he said he’d take her on. A class act! Tell you more about the other stuff in person.

      December 18, 2015 at 2:58 pm

  6. Yeah Scottie is a good kid..

Nationals need a 2nd baseman, looking to acquire Phillips who cost a decent salary, wonder why Cashman didn’t offer up Refsynder, Gardner, and Clarkin for Strasburg.. Strasburg is a rental, next yr he hits the FA market, but for this yr he’d be our Ace, and you can work on him staying in NY

Worse case you give him a QO and grab a first round pick… Steep price for a rental, but if you want young cost controlled top of the rotation pitchers only making $12M the price in players is steep

That said, is trading Gardner really steep? And Refsynder is hated by Cashman, Clarkin has 1st round bust written all over him

Next year $38M comes off the books so Strasburg is affordable…Phillips does have a relationship with Dusty Baker so good chance he waives his no trade, and the Nats get their man

    16:$13M, 17:$14M
award bonuses, including $75,000 for All-Star selection
limited no-trade protection (may block deals to 10 clubs)

    December 18, 2015 at 3:44 pm

Looks like Phillips will waive, but my guess he wants an extra yr from DC, or a buy out from the Reds

Is Cashman even trying to get pitching?

Cashman made no attempt at Frazier despite the asking price being minimal

Why, money owed Headley and Frazier no longer plays LF

He has no interest in any of the remaining OFers on the market

No interest in Cishek as a reliever who closed for Miami $5m pathetic

    December 18, 2015 at 5:32 pm

  10. Iwakuma goes back to Seattle 1 yr deal where was Cashman Xmas shopping?

    December 18, 2015 at 5:35 pm

    • Friedman weaseled out of the deal. Cashman was at Macy’s on Santa’s knee, telling him what he wants for Christmas.

      December 18, 2015 at 5:40 pm

  11. Here is some good news-its official-Brendan Ryan is now a Cub as part of the Castro deal!!!!-lol Its called addition by subtraction of a super stiff!!! I am afraid its going to be a while before Cashman signs a free agent.

    December 18, 2015 at 8:19 pm

    • hey Big D too bad the ptbnl was Gardner lol… Yes thankfully we knew it was gonna be Ryan, and they were waiting until post Rule 5 so it wouldn’t mess with their 40 man, but you never know Theo could have pulled a fast one

I’m sure they had it on paper that Ryan becomes their problem on December 19th…Amazing how the media loved this guy, I get the personality aspect in the clubhouse, but get a friggin room with the guy if you like him so much, he was a waste of a roster spot

      December 20, 2015 at 8:01 am

  12. I agree mB on Friedman… surprised he didn’t offer the 1 yr at $15.8M with incentives and 2 team options that package would amount to $45M but only if the team wanted it

Friedman and Cashman are acting like they have a new teams mounting… curious because both teams were the two highest salaried clubs in baseball.. so far Friedman is getting the better prospects back though
but Cashman did get a better young varsity player (Castro)

    December 20, 2015 at 8:04 am

  13. Hope yr feeling better Sal !!!

    December 20, 2015 at 11:33 am

    • Thanks Donny I’m half way through these elephant antibiotics and today is my best day

Had a tree fall blocking the driveway, pretty windy up here, so lucky for me I was feeling good enough to cut it up and and stack it out of the way, imperitive I keep the road open

Took a Donny bisquit and turned into Paul Bunyan. Got a good work out, after laying around with a migraine and a fever for 3 days it felt good..thanks

Nicky two fingers has an article how banking and basball are one in the same.. We have to now hope these guys make the right decisions in free agency, Hal is proving he’s not about to buy out mistakes anymore

I don’t know why anybody would think Price is a long term deal, he’ll be out of Boston in 3 yrs, they’re getting him in his prime

It’s the team that pays him after the opt out that will get screwed… At 33 yrs old good chance he can get a better deal then 4 for $127m

We just have to hope he doesn’t pitch well and he sticks with Boston the entire time..worse case he can opt out and get the same money to pitch someplace he likes. D-Backs didn’t put an opt out in Greinke’s deal

      They’re stuck

      December 20, 2015 at 5:28 pm

  14. The industry is wondering the value of opt-out clauses, are they good or bad.. Manfred was whining about it the other day, his case for them bring bad is Greinke, my case for them being good is Sabathia, let him go pitch the back end of his albatross contract someplace else

Zack Greinke opted out of his deal with the Dodgers and received $206 million over six years from Arizona. The Red Sox gave David Price an opt-out after three years. The Giants gave Johnny Cueto an opt-out after two years. The Cubs also gave Jason Heyward an opt-out after three years. “It’s complete leverage for the player,” said Orioles GM Dan Duquette. “It’s not something our organization would be interested in. In some cases, teams feel they’re deal-breakers. If you’re going to agree to something like that, there should be a parachute where if the player has a bad two or three years, the team can opt out as well.”

Go ahead and try it Dan, see if the player you need to take the next step, for Boston it’s an Ace, agrees and grabs it..they’ll be teams lined up to pay him, and collusion is illegal

Opt outs are fantastic, who wants to pay Price for 7 yrs? Do we want to pay Sabathia for this extra 5 yrs where we only got 1 decent yr of value? He became a drunk 3 yrs ago, after he got his 5 yr extension

Let Price leave, if you can’t create depth that replaces him then your no better then Cashman who did nothing to replace Sabathia. Your not replacing the prime Price, your replacing his down yrs

Lazy bastard Cashman, and asleep at the wheel Steinbrenner threw their fucking wallet at problems
Instead of grooming the farm, Steinbrenner never paid attention until 2013, are you kidding me?????? Daddies money!!! spoiled kids, they get it too easy

Marvin Miller was a genius, he created the strongest Union in America, now they need to figure out how get that 9 billion dollar split a little closer to 50%.

Nobody is buying tickets to watch Steinbrenner own, they’re buying his product, force him to make that product good

    December 20, 2015 at 6:02 pm

    • Southpaw
      Great movie

      December 20, 2015 at 9:57 pm

  15. Francesa is unbelievable “this is what the NFL has come too” Then he spends the 1st 2 hours bitching about Beckham…So he’s part of the problem, they’re just grabbing ratings, like the NFL.. If Beckham and the Defensive back were schlubs both guys are benched and nobody is getting a minute of media juice about this

Young kids young adults watching this game were probably entertained to the max… It’s why young kids / adults don’t like baseball, there isn’t two guys beating on each other every play

You want it you got it Mikey, and your getting a whole show based on it…. Mail Order Mikey the Milk Man

    December 21, 2015 at 2:40 pm

  16. Looks like the NFL got enough pressure to rap Beckett on the knuckles, also a bigger story then I assumed.. I was on a Boston site and maybe a few Pilgrims took shots at Beckham, but that was it, thought he should be penalized, but then again that’s a biased crowd

one game suspension, but what’s with the baseball bat… ? Oh well good luck NFL fans I hope this doesn’t impact my buddies rooting interest
