Christmas Day 2015

Merry Xmas

Merry Xmas Daniel Murphy

About 4 o’clock  yesterday  we were out photo journalizing ..Mrs Sal picks the light and the subject matter, I put on two  coats and a ski hat and fake security. My WMD are usually a few pints and a couple of joints, works wonders on the restless and  inquisitive natives

Having been one of them in another lifetime helps too

On the B/R feed came the news that Daniel Murphy was signed by the Washington Nationals.. Later on Rosenthal had the numbers, 3 yr’s $37.5M

The Mets replaced Murphy with Asdrubal Cabrera for 2 yr’s $18.5M and Neil Walker 1 yr $9M, so  we see where this is going right?

I thought Murphy who  was rumored to be asking for 4 yr’s $60M would maybe get 3 yr’s for $45M, but his market dropped even more and he was smart enough to take the Nats offer…

The Mets do not get the Nationals’ first round pick. They receive a compensation pick between the first and second rounds.

Teams value low first-round picks between $5M and $8M. So No. 17 pick – which Nationals will forfeit for Murphy – could be worth ~$10M.

That $10M or so amounts to a tax beyond amount Nationals guaranteed Murphy – $37.5M. Effectively lowered what team was willing to pay him.

Per the reports I read, that  $10M lowered Murphy’s value, the QO is a beast, and probably a negotiating point between the Owners and the MLBPA after 2016..

I’m not a  Met hater, but Fred Wilpon can’t lose enough for my money, and Daniel Murphy can’t bludgeon the Met stud pitchers quite enough  when they meet head to  head 19 times a season

Good luck Murph, and congrats on the deal

Disgusted, Really?

So all  the media gasbags  that  dry hump the leg of anything NFL from July until the Super Bowl ends after the first  week of February, are all of a sudden disgusted with the  Beckham / Norman tap dance last Sunday

Francesa almost had a cardiac arrest screaming what  a farce that little mano a mano confrontation was by arguably the best wide receiver and corner back in the NFL..

When Pope Franny the Only wasn’t on his soap box denouncing the ignorant machismo tête–à–tête  between these two lost pampered puppies, he was on one of his million paid vacation days, so  gotta get a bang for his buck, then take the kids he won’t allow to play football Xmas shopping

That  always amazed me,  bloviators like Francesa and one of his disciples Mark Ma-Use-Less sit comfortably behind the mic and knock these players for committing bone head plays, but they’re “afraid” to let their kids play  the sport

“Let’s be honest” it was a good ratings grabber for  Francesa the biggest  gasbag of them all, despite him whining that this is what it’s come to in the NFL..?

“Beckham was disgusted, you soar it” what  did you say  to him”?.. Come on Pope the refs aren’t calling anything get them on the radio and grill  them..

Then talk  about the game Pope? Can’t do  that, his NY audience wanted to vent about the scrum, or maybe if the Giants had won the damn  game, they’re fans wouldn’t have had such a red ass, and OBJ is a hero?

I’ve watched a few NFL games this season, and all I see are sack dances, by defenders losing by 20 points, end zone gyrations after wide receivers do  their job and catch  the ball, bitch  slapping between lineman which is fine, that’s an NFL staple, smack talking D-Backs, Cam Newton’s weekly Soul Train dance moves, every minute or so  a commercial

Any Jimmy Brown’s, Del Shofner’s  or Mark Bavaro’s out there any more ?

The game has passed Tom Coughlin by? No Shit, it’s the Rex Ryan / Ron Rivera era

That was self-evident years ago. Coughlin has stood still while the game has raced past him — in reverse.

The demonstrative, self-smitten, me-firsting, chest-pounding player has become the NFL standard, celebrated and rewarded by TV in every game — until Sunday’s — starting with the promos at the top of the telecast through to the last slo-mo replay of a player performing an obligatory dance of excessive self-regard.

I’m happier then a bunch of school  boys in the front row of a Ariana Grande concert that OBJ and Josh Norman put a super sized microscope on the NFL, and this game that  hijacks the sports pages and air waves from August until February 7th

The NFL is extremely profitable, ratings thanks to Fantasy Gambling are through the roof, the geek nerds on WFAN wet themselves talking about a game for days, glorifying this poor excuse for what used to be a pretty good sport played by guys who  came to  work  with a lunch pail

Now they  carry iPhones and make sure they  get to  Tweet musings to their unwashed followers in between shifts..

All good by me, it’s entertainment first,  football somewhere in the  rear view mirror,  but t don’t act like the league hasn’t developed this Brand consciously, just  sit back and enjoy, because it’s gonna get worse not better, and worse is good for ratings

Apparently that would include Norman bringing a baseball bat to games, a weapon to threateningly brandish at specific opponents before games such as Sunday’s.

Say, what’s the NFLPA’s position on that act?

These are professionals, college men, too. How is it that our colleges now mass-produce active sports vandals?

Do  you really have to  ask that  question Mr Mushnick,? $$$.. Ever work at one of these Major Universities? In Michigan St last yr we drove  past 3 miles of Sports facilities before reaching our destination on campus, maybe 3 of them football  fields, who  do  think is paying the bills, the chemistry department?

Kid from Cuba

The next Moncada is on his way, a 16 yr old man child Lazaro Armenteros.. We can’t really get too  excited the Yanks can’t bid on him when he finally becomes available.

The only teams uninterested in Armenteros are the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Angels and Tampa Bay Rays. It’s only because they can’t have him. They’re ineligible after already exceeding their international bonus pool.

At least the Red Sox exceeded their pool  spending $63M on Moncada, the Yanks spent $30M on 23 kids and we’re lucky if some of them pan out

Most teams plan to watch his showcase event on Jan. 8 at the San Diego Padres’ complex in Cristobal. MLB is expected to rule by the end of January whether he’s eligible to sign now, or must wait until the next signing period that begins July 2.

This kid isn’t exactly sitting around texting his bros or playing the  new Xbox, he’s presently in the DR but was working out in Haiti

He resided in a house where electricity lasted only eight hours a day, and running water stopped for eight hours. If you needed to store water, you had to cover it, making sure it wasn’t filled with flies and bugs.

“It was the most deplorable situation I’ve ever been in or seen,” said Charles Hairston, whose agency, Culture 39, represents Armenteros. “Every kilometer you’d go, there would be people standing in lines for trash, just trying to pick through the good trash.”

There was no grass, let along baseball fields or gyms to work out. He ran up hills carrying buckets and rice to build up his legs. He threw old tires and did dips between chairs to build up his arms.

This kid has been a star in Cuba since he’s been 13, who  the hell is scouting in Cuba for the Yanks, Hellen Keller?

Meant Well

Looks like Brian Cashman won’t be shaken down  by his estranged mistress Louise Meanwell..

The plea also spares Cashman from what would likely have been an embarrassing cameo on the witness stand where he would have been confronted with questions about his relationship with Meanwell.

Cashman  was married at the time, and the squeaky clean NYY don’t want to  kick  the tires on Alrodis Chapman?

  3. The Mutts continue to be a disgrace. After getting to the World Series & making money, the Mutts (i.e. The Wilpons) all of a sudden have gotten short arms & find their wallet. They’ve been saying for the last few years, that when things start coming together, they will be in position to spend. Well, WTF are they waiting for??? I’m with you Sal, Fred Wilpon & his silver spoon son, can’t lose enough for me. I hope it all goes south on him, the cheap bastard!

    • I’ve seen that. No idea who gets paid. The Redhead??? Lol!!

      December 25, 2015 at 4:38 pm

    • Muddy should get paid, writers, and performance royalties to whoever cut the deal, probably Jacoby, pre Terry Baker

Unless a real publishing company was set up, but knowing the deal there wasn’t one, good chance under the table deal between the Record company (Jacoby) and the big 3….

  5. Just catching up on an SI article written last September by Tom Verducci on the great Yogi Berra. A fact I didn’t know, that is somewhat surprising, is pretty amazing when you think about it. Between the integration (1947) and expansion (1961), when Baseball was the unchallenged great American Pastime, only Stan Musial drove in more runs than Berra during that period. Think about all the greats who played during that era…..that’s freakin amazing!!!!!

    December 25, 2015 at 4:56 pm

    • Yogi would be making Mauer money plus in this era mB…Yogi got more rings then Zsa Zsa Gabor

      December 26, 2015 at 6:10 am
