Manfred’s Bite Worse then his Bark

with 16 comments

Well if  new baseball  commissioner, Rob and Steal Manfred the Wonder Dog, wanted to maximize his knee capping the Yanks and their closer Alrodis Shotgun Chapman he picked a hell of a day  to do it

(thanks noogsie for the wonder dog metaphor lol)

With the Yanks taking the day off to Bond and Bro-mance, the biggest news to  come out of any MLB camp was Manfred’s decision to hand Chapman a stiff 30 game suspension without pay

We knew something  was coming, this was the perfect opportunity for Manfred to  spit shine his new Sheriff’s badge and show the world, despite his league gouging every last penny out of it’s customers pockets, they  are squeaky clean on drugs and domestic violence..

Don’t get me wrong, the fact Chapman  didn’t go  through with his appeal means he has something to hide, so  whatever he did had to be in some way, shape or form, fucked up..

That, juxtaposed to  domestic violence being  a very sticky situation in our present day  society, good chance despite the local yokel Fla. cops dismissing the incident, Manfred the Wonder Dog and his arbiter Tom Terrific Horowitz most likely had an  axe to  grind in an effort to become the anti Roger  Goodell..

Manfred threatened to increase Chapman’s  penalty to  40  /  50 games if he appealed, putting Chappy’s free agency in jeopardy… Manfred had the hammer, and he used it, Chapman stood to lose $10’s of Millions of Dollars on the open market as the best  closer in baseball if his free agency was rendered void

Chapman’s girlfriend had no marks on her body, but he no doubt scared the living shit out of her by firing off 9 shots in his garage with a Shotgun.. That kind of stuff will get your attention

Another  issue here is Manfred was hell bent to use Chapman  as his poster boy for any future Domestic violence matters pertaining to MLB players, so he comes out looking like the star in a Clint Eastwood movie, despite Joel Sherman saying there are no  winners in this case

Manfred said in a statement, “I found Mr. Chapman’s acknowledged conduct on that day to be inappropriate under the negotiated policy, particularly his use of a firearm and the impact of that behavior on his partner.”

Manfred is a huge winner Joel, the Red Sox win too,  they  don’t have to  face Chapman in 40 degree weather for 6 games in April  and early May.. Chapman  can be a winner if he pulls an ARod and uses MLB’s extensive exposure to polish his tarnished image

Ruth Glenn the  boss lady for the National Coalition against Domestic Violence was happy, but it can’t hurt to twist the knife a little deeper in an  effort to get your point across

Ruth Glenn, executive director of the National Coalition against Domestic Violence, applauded Manfred’s stand from her Denver office, but was disgusted by Chapman’s statement saying he did not harm his girlfriend.

“I find that very disturbing,’’ Glenn told USA TODAY Sports. “What is he referring to? The fact he didn’t shoot her? Any time a gun is involved, and there’s a domestic violence report, harm has been done to somebody.

“When a gun is involved, that is intimidation. I find it upsetting that Mr. Chapman is not taking any responsibility for really bad behavior.

“Some harm must have been done, or else MLB wouldn’t have come to the decision in which they did.’’

Chapman  excepted the penalty, his lawyers wrote an apology for him,  his girlfriend never pressed charges, she had no marks on her body, I think  justice was served Ruth, hopefully you were at Goodell’s door step when Ray Rice cold cocked his then girl friend and put her on queer street

Let’s also take into  consideration Bob Nightengale who  writes for USA today also had an axe to  grind with Chapman, so Glenn, who must  see some horrific cases took Nightengale’s hammer and Banged the Gong once more for good measure

Chapman will become eligible to pitch on May 9th, so he gets 30 games / 35 days, unfortunately 6 of those  games are vs Boston, 3 vs the Jays, 3 vs the Orioles, and 4 vs the Rays

16 of the 30 games are against AL East opponents, now we can add that little disclaimer to  the Bombers already most questionable season since the early  90’s

The Yanks seemed  relieved this was over, they knew Chapman  was gonna be used as a sacrificial lamb, they  probably didn’t think it would be 30 games based on lack of evidence, but whatever..

The Bombers were already  sporting a small black eye  just bringing Chapman  to  the Bronx, so  any push from them would have put more heat on the whole debacle

Maybe Chapman will turn out to be as beneficial to the league as ARod, another reformed baseball criminal

    • Donny…I’m not too happy that Boston skates on 6 of the 19 games, especially in 40 degree April / early May weather, they all count, especially if you win or lose by a few games and you make or miss the playoffs

      but thems the breaks

we knew Chappy was gonna get the short end.. Manfred is a knob polisher, and this was tailor made

plus wait until he gets Reyes, he’ll be doing end zone dances in his office

  3. It was an inside job

Manfred, the MLBPA, Chapman had $10 Billion reasons to settle this thing and make MLB look good

  9. Allegedly Sal, we have other arms with “closer stuff”, no ??
If we can’t count on the rest of the Pen for one month then we have more problems than Doc Holliday’s penchant for shooting up his garage.

    • yes Donny, the Yanks are gonna need more then 3 guys to pull this off, I agree

unfortunately the depth of the pen is considerably shorter without Chapman. The Division could conceivably come down to a game or two and with 5 unproven relievers for 30 games one of those guys needs to pitch in a high leverage situation

We’re not gonna get too many starters going 7 innings or 21 outs.. Plus you can’t throw Betances and Miller every night.. One game where the 2 Weapons need to secure 8 outs and the next game your closer is Shreve or Pazos or Lindgren or Rumbelow or Pinder or Nova

Losing Chapman for 30 games is a real bummer, at least in my book.. It’s more of a depth thing.. there is a good chance Girardi wasn’t gonna pitch all 3 in one game, I also think losing Wilson was huge, or not, we’ll see how he pitches for the Tigers

      hopefully your 100% right…

  10. a quick glance and it looks like Chapman’s first game back is Monday May 9. As Sal pointed out, we lose him for home and away series with the Red Sox, and other series, among others, with the Tigers, Rangers, Blue Jays and Astros. 30 games is huge. Winning one more game once every two weeks during the time that Chapman is out, can hypothetically result in a record of 18-12, rather than .500 ball at 15-15.
It could potentially be the difference at the end of the year
