Hump Day 3/23/16

with 12 comments

Of course with no TV available we couldn’t see the Mets and Yanks square off at GMS, a game the Bombers won 6-3

The buzz for the Yanks was Luis “Severino who pitched 4 shutout innings, before leaving in the 5th  after he sandwiched an out between a single and a double

Shotgun Chapman replaced Severino  and gave up  both inherited runs, one on a ground ball out, and the 2nd run on a Cespedes double..

Both  runs were charged to Severino, the Yanks were up  5-0 at the time after scoring all  5 runs in the 2nd inning off Met hot shot Steven Matz..

Apparently Al Yankzeera press secretary Joey DayCare was spinning so much  bull  shit he wasn’t exactly on the same page as his best  starting pitcher

“I got behind in the count (in the fifth),” Severino said. “And that’s what happens when you get behind in the count.”

Severino was ultimately charged with two runs on five hits and a walk through 4.1 innings. He struck out five and threw 77 pitches. He said he felt strong at the end; felt he could have thrown more pitches. Girardi didn’t necessarily agree.

“I thought he was pretty good,” Girardi said. “I didn’t think he had great command tonight, but I thought he had a good fastball and he battled through it. It looked like he tired at the end, but he battled through it. … His fastball’s got enough on it that sometimes he can get through a lineup just using that pitch and mixing in the other pitches. It’s encouraging.”

Severino’s line 4.1 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 5 K’s, 1 BB

More Girardi Gibberish

As for the idea of delaying Sanchez’s clock, Girardi basically dismissed it completely.

“I don’t think that’s ever a concern for the Yankees,” Girardi said. “At least, I’ve never seen that.”

Looks like Sanchez did get in the game yesterday  but wasn’t credited with  an AB.. The Yankees stud catching prospect is 1 for 17 this spring with, if I’m not mistaken,  3 walks..The fact he can’t seem to hit water if he fell out of a row boat  this Spring will make the decision to delay that  clock a lot easier

The Bombers picked up  11 hits on the day, ARod, McCann,  and Gregarious had 2 knocks each.. Gardner, Hicks, Fowler, Headley and Castro  all had 1 apiece

The Yanks score 5 runs in the 2nd inning on 6 consecutive hits, (5 singles and a double) The  made it 6-2 in the 6th on a Gregarious double and a Fowler single

Chapman, Betances, and Miller pitched 2.2 innings, 4 hits no  runs 5 K’s.. Shotgun Chapman did cough  up  2 inherited runs.. It’s really hard to judge Chapman, he’s so  far away  from actually starting his season, he’s pitched in 5 games, 4.1 innings,  a 4.15 ERA, with 8 K’s

Sling Slade

Slade Heathcott was shipped to  minor league camp, the often injured and recently tardy Bomber hasn’t been very impressive this Spring.. They insist  he wasn’t demoted because he missed the bus a few days ago

I’ll have to  agree with that, if he was raking, they’d drive him to  the ball park in a Limo.. As it stands he’s 1 for 22 and on that Gary Sanchez bus back to  the bushes, not that Heahtcott was  in line to  win a job

He’s a perennial depth out fielder, and officially a 4 A Hero

What message did the Yankees convey as they shipped him out of camp?

“Just, go get yourself ready to go when the phone rings,” Girardi said. “He did some really good things for us last year, and the young man has a lot of ability. The big thing for him is to stay on the field; play hard and stay on the field. I told him, go get ready. You see how quickly things can happen. We just had Jacoby get hit (by a pitch). Our thought is he’s going to be back, but if it was a broken hand, he was going to be out six to eight weeks. Things happen quickly. Go get ready.”

That’s about all  we have today

  1. yesterday we took Mikey Two Chin’s’ advise and put Olsen as a long look see candidate for a bull pen spot, but he may have punched his ticket out of camp as the Bomber Shuttle Butts continue to pitch their way off the 25 man roster

Not a particularly good outing for bullpen candidate Tyler Olson, who’s been terrific most of the spring. Today he allowed two hits and a walk, and one of the hits came from a left-handed hitter (Olson also retired a lefty).

  2. Hicks has been pretty good, which is a good sign because Ellsbury’s wrist will no doubt have some sort of negative affect on his offense, and the Fowler kid has been pretty good to.. The problem there, the Yanks have at least 4 or 5 Gardner / Ellsbury clones, but no Big Bopper threats until Aaron Judge actually lives up to his propaganda hype

Aaron Hicks and Dustin Fowler each stole a base. Fowler had a hit and an RBI in his only at-bat off the bench. He’s technically in minor league camp now, but he’s hitting .313 in big league camp.
Another double for Starlin Castro, whose strong spring training continues. He’s hitting .433.

  3. https://twitter.com/RNs_Funhouse

some excerpts from Honest Mike’s show from the funhouse.. Man are we gonna miss this guy when he’s gone….

They might as well shut that station down after Honest Mike leaves, your better off listening to dueling Jack Hammers outside your NYC apartment window, then anything they produce from that studio, outside of the Honest Mike comedy hour

  5. Heathcott seems destined to join the list of almost great Yankees like the one we had here last week-Repoz,Whitaker,Moschitto,Reed,etc I still remember that home run he hit vs the Rays in Tampa that won the game-lol Despite all the hype,I thought the game in Cuba was disgusting slap in the face to all the exiles and all the people killed and imprisoned by the communist regime. Todays Yankee game is
on the mlb network, televised by the Nats.

  6. Listening to sports talk radio, if you’re a baseball fan, has been a disgusting proposition. Since the football season ended with the playing of the super bowl, it has continued to be non-stop football & basketball talk. Incessantly!!! With a mere couple of minutes on Spring Training. With March Madness in full gear this won’t stop until opening day!

  7. I have really high hopes for Severino and just need to hit the mute button when Joey Claps starts with the inside information which is often at odds with what both his pitcher and catcher say.
The drops on Mikey’s ” I never said dat” are destined to be like Yogi’s stuff someday. The RN Funhouse guy is so great at posting how Mike contradicts himself. The beauty of Mikey is that he just goes on as if nothing happened and never admits guilt.
Then there’s Barack doing the wave with Raul Castro yesterday. Dallas has all of that said so right.

  9. Hunt and Leo would a been a huge improvement over Manos DE Piedras in the later innings.
Mostly no names were in then but man, errors abounded

  10. Yanks lost 13-0!! The Nats had Brendan Ryan at ss,Drew at 2b!!! Drew hit a massive homer off Tanaka, who got shit on,7 runs,2 homers in 4 innings. Yanks had bases loaded,0 out=Hicks struck out,Ackley hit into a dp-shades of last year-lol Tanaka did not look good at all,he had nothing and got hammered. They should have televised the Met game,at least they won that one!!
