Flawed DNA

The Bad

The Yanks are a very flawed team, we can  look that  fact straight in the eye and not even  blink after a miserable 8-15 start to  the season.

It’s no longer early, that  excuse has been put in moth  balls now as we enter May.

What  you see from CashMan’s 2016 rebuild is a combination of no killer instinct in the DNA, juxtaposed with the natural progression of eroding skills by the still undefeated Father Time

I’m all  for having fun on a baseball  field, but when Grand Papi Ortiz slides into  2nd base to  break up  a DP, I don’t need to  see a love fest break out between King Papi  and one of his Dominican love children Starlin Castro

Wipe the smile off your face Castro, and while your at it, bust out of the box when you launch a ball in play, you can  admire the hit  back at  the hotel when ESPN replays it at 11

As for Nate Eovaldi, there was nothing to  smile at  when they  asked you if the stuff, and focus you had in Texas got lost in baggage at the airport.. The  slumbering Yankee offense finally woke up and gave this box of rocks two leads, both times he coughed it up a half inning after they finally broke the two  run spell  they’ve been on for the last 17 games

Maybe Aaron Boone is right about Eovaldi, his left leg locks up when he’s attempting to  finish his pitches???

This natural motion, per “Fuckin Aaron Boone”, who  gets his pitching intel  from Curt Schilling an outspoken blow hard who happens to know how to pitch, impedes Eovaldi’s chances to  repeat his delivery, hence the maddening inconsistency you see from this perennial CashMan Science Project game to game, pitch  to pitch, breath to breath

Or maybe the smell permeating from Eovaldi’s game was nothing more then an inability to properly grip  the baseball in the driving rain  storm they  were playing through, in an effort to collect the money ESPN TV had waiting for them the minute Craig Kimbrel exposed Captain Gardner as nothing more then  a defensive replacement / 4th outfielder /  offensive Hack

The Ugly

As for the eroding skill set CashMan is stuck  with, there is nothing anybody can do  about it, maybe not be so  stupid when it’s time to overpay 30 yr old, past their prime Brand names during Free Agency.. Then again, you would need to have developed your farm system, so  you can  replenish the aging, and the departed

CashMan has not succeeded in that department, all  we have is propaganda from Al Yankzeera that a new core is on the way.. OK, but we’ve heard that song before and outside of Cano  and Wang in 05, where are all  the future Great Yankees under CashMan’s watch?

Good answer, there are none…

The one shining light that somehow flickered in the dark was Dellin Betances, a kid who  was one Spring Training from being yet another failed prospect when he accidentally showed a talent for the  1, possibly 2 inning hold / occasional save coming out of the bull pen

Last night a kid the Nation loves as a defensive whiz, Chris Vazquez, but an offensive detriment, stood  the Invincible Betances up  for the third straight outing.. Three strikes and you’re out in baseball…That’s a trend, not a mistake, time to  walk Dellin into  the video room and figure out which phone booth between Boston and Texas he left the Superman Cape in..

Enough with the dancing with the stars routine Betances has been afforded, and has earned, time to make your adjustment big boy, the league has your number, better start  to get nasty again, or Hal  will be selling off parts to  this aborted mess by June 1st

As for Vazquez,  I’d hold off on the Yadi Molina compares, despite  the close my eyes, swing the bat, run into a 97 MPH clothes line fast ball  that left the Fenway Little League left field for a back  breaking 2 run lead in the 8th inning

What Vazquez and his Red Sox buddies  do have is fire, youth, and focus…

Joey Day Care’s team of nitwits  (Hicks, Gregorius, Gardner, Nova, Eovaldi),  soft Millionaires ( Headley, Ellsbury, ) and past their prime All Stars (Teixeira, Beltran ARod, Sabathia, McCann) haven’t dipped into  that  Fire and Focus well just yet in 2016

The Good

I’m not as upset with the sweep as say Ken Davidoff who has another media fix for Joey Day Care to ponder, or George King or Dan Martin, no I thought last night was a very entertaining affair, despite the good guys falling on their swords

They  checked a few boxes for me that made me go to bed with a shit eating grin

The offense spanked the hell out of the over hyped, and obviously overpaid David Price… I wanted Price in Pinstripes, so I’m glad Hal was too  cheap to  add to his already  damaged inventory, and passed on this  $217M Chump

7 innings,  8 hits,  6 runs,  1 BB,  3 K’s,  1 HR 100-71 pitches, 6.14 ERA

The offense  finally clutched up,  this has to give them a boost, despite Price probably being impacted by the bad weather, my excuse for Eovaldi

Yankees RISP: 4-8 (Headley 0-2, Rodriguez 2-3, Ellsbury 1-1, Gardner 0-1, Teixeira 1-1)
Team LOB: 4

Whatever ARod took or has done since his Oblique injury, keep  doing it, and try not to get caught.. Or get caught, because that  would open a spot for Beltran  as your DH, and the league would void his $21M this yr and next.. Yes we’d lose the only offensive weapon worth  watching, but they’d gain  payroll flexibility a lot sooner, which is more important then a fake playoff run

Castro despite a few snags in his make up is an offensive talent, he compiled 2 more hits last night and his line is very respectable .314 .352 .500 .852

The Yanks despite having 4 automatic outs from 6 through 9 did mange a 2 for 13 night from the useless Headley, the very good defensive, mediocre offensive, but feisty Torreyes..

Hicks despite his clueless AB’s should be playing RF regularly, while Beltran  and ARod spilt the DH role.. Gregarious has become overrated offensively, which is fine, he’s  a decent defensive player, and he’s just keeping the spot warm for Mateo who is 2 yr’s away

Romine does a very nice job with the tools on, he’s an automatic out, but we’re a month  away  from  seeing Sanchez on the varsity, especially if the offense doesn’t wake up..

Eovaldi  and Pineda are what  they  are, cheap help, I’d run their course, and wave goodbye… In fact I might include both of them in a deadline trade package, they both  show glimpses of brilliance, and maybe getting out of NY and the AL in general would turn them into decent mid rotation  starters

There is always a GM or pitching coach that thinks they  can fix the warts, in fact we have that GM in NY

Let’s hope Betances shows up  to  the video  room, on this off day, and the embarrassing sweep at the hands of first place Boston instills some fight, maybe even a DNA transfusion  in this lethargic excuse for a baseball  team

  1. I’d like to see Hicks everyday in Right field, let ARod and Beltran platoon the DH.. Beltran is an embarrassment on defense, and maybe resting these guys will get them jump started on offense

Headley has 36 more AB’s before they run out of excuses for him so let him play

Nothing we can do about the rotation, and Rothschild needs to work with Betances, we’re 7 days away from beefing up the pen with Chapman… Betances will take over the 7th inning, he needs to get his nasty streak back, and watch some video, he’s healthy so it might be just a few minor adjustments

Let’s hope they don’t trade Miller or Betances at the deadline, although Miller would really bring back a haul if he keeps up his unhittable outings

He could be the difference in a long playoff run for some team

Davidoff thinks Ellsbury could be flipped if the Yanks ate a lot of the contract… I don’t see it, they would have to make him a $15M AAV for some team, that’s a $30M dinner tab, $6M per for the next 5 yr’s…

I’d flip Gardner if he starts to play better, he is what he is, and maybe you can get a decent pitching prospect for him…

Beltran and Tex maybe can be convinced to waive the no trade, another playoff run might inspire them to leave NY, plus they wouldn’t have a QO stifling their free agency…

  3. Donnie B is right. George would have done many things differently than these bean counters.
Girardi would have been gone long ago, rehired someplace else and fired from that second job by now.
Cano would be here and Ellsbury would not. If Big Papi can hit at 40, don’t think Cano won’t. Those Dominicans know how to keep drinking from the Fountain of Youth, or something like that. LOL.
I’m waiting for the day when some caller tells Mikey 21 that Big Papi is better than Mickey Mantle was. I don’t agree, I just want to see if Mikey can survive a major coronary

    • Lol hey noogsie like a lot of kids who take over the family business they run it into the ground

You can send a fool to college but can’t make him learn

They have no passion for this business if was just an easiest way to become a 1 percent er

We may not get much of a change until Hal sells it

And even bad yr’s still make him money

I think you guys are right, without GMS there is no accountability the lunatics are running the asylum

      And we’re paying for it

Hang tough boys we have a rough 5 months ahead of us

But yes s good Mantle Grand Papi debate would spike the blood pressure

That’s if he’s done with the NFL draft
      Mikey follows the money

  5. Things are bad when you get swept at femway but are glad they finally scored some runs. One thing that has been consistent all season is when they finally score a run,the pitcher immediately gives it back-there is no shut down inning. The Yankee starters are terrible, there is a reason Eovaldi is on his 3rd team. Betances is going through a rough stretch, its one thing to give up a homer to Ortiz but Christian Vasquez?-oy!! If the bullpen is not going to get the job done, its all over for them. Sweeny was on this morning with Joe & Evan and said Refsnyder has not been recalled because he has not done well at 3b and is not hitting. I have to disagree about Hicks-he is batting .077!!!!!!! A great defender, much better than Beltran but how can someone be in the major leagues with that average? Do they not have anyone in the minors that can hit at least .100? This team is simply not good, the bench is a joke. The more they keep playing Torreyes, the more he will look like the guy who has been released twice, like Brendan Ryan. Its frustrating to watch the same thing happen every night, same miserable at bats, same lousy starting pitching.
It seems like its going to be a loooooooooooong season.

    • Hey Big D, good run down… Yes I agree letting Hicks play everyday is like giving John Wilkes Booth a free ticket and back stage pass to the play..

I’m not enamored with Beltran in Right field, I’ve seen enough pop ups drop, balls shoot in the gap, Routes bungled, and limited range…

the way I figure it, Cubs gave Hayward $181M based on his defense, I watch the Boston OF and nothing falls through the cracks..

I’m willing to give Hicks a long rope, lets see if he can play, if not, he doesn’t cost anything, just DFA him or trade him in a package

Watching Beltran everyday play defense is just as bad, who starts 39 yr old OFer’s in this era?

I’d platoon Beltran and Arod, sounds crazy because ARod is the only guy along with Castro hitting, but for how long?

He even admitted the two days off gave him some energy

Playing Hicks sparingly won’t get him in any kind of groove, and he’ll always hit .100

Actually I bet Gamel is a better player, but he’s another LHB, and They don’t want to start Judge’s clock, so lets see if Hicks can play at all…

As for Torreyes yes most likely he’ll resort to what he is, then again Headley is a complete bust, so whatever they do there is meh… At least Torreyes is a decent fielder, Headley looks like he’s ready to keel over, make a bad throw, and he has no range which is fine if they were playing straight defense, but he’s the only guy on the left side of the infield in a lot of those shifts

Anyway, none of the options are ideal, so regardless we’re in deep shit ….

  6. This is Kentucky Derby week so you all should be aware of that. Mikey will have his priorities and by Friday baseball will be mostly forgotten about

    • oh shit Noogsie say it ain’t so…. At least the draft is over, not that it’ll stop these guys from having P.Dot and Costello on every friggin day lol

My stomach turns when that guy Ira from Staten Island calls, my God help me… Honest Mile has the same 20 guys that call him.. He must pay these dopes so he looks good.. Oh my God the Derby, No God please

I love Honest Mike when the Raider fan called wanted him to give his take on the pick… Mikey had no idea when they picked or who, then he said oh yeah the guy from W Virginia, who you know Mikey has never seen play, but it won’t stop him from giving intel

Cashman at 4 o’Clock, better move the fences back here come 15 minutes of softball lobs CashMan can smack out of the park…

  7. Is it too early to give up on this collection of mutts? On twitter people were saying this is like 2005 and they called up the Wanger and Cano….Also had MVP 29 year old ARod along with Aaron Small/Shawn Chacon….this team is a collection of stiffs. As long as A Rod gets his is what I have to look forward to now.

    Pretty Ricky

    May 2, 2016 at 2:33 pm

    • Hey Ricky yeah that 05 call up of Cano and Wang has been mentioned, too bad they don’t have a Cano or Wang in the system to call up

Maybe we’ll see Sanchez soon, Let’s hope Judge forces his way on the team too

My guess you won’t like it if they platoon ARod lol…. But unless he juicing I don’t see how he can stay fresh every day… That said Hicks isn’t gonna play everyday, Beltran isn’t gonna DH, and ARod isn’t gonna sit, but I would try it anyway…

  8. I just got back in and found this at RAB… Hate to say it, but I totally agree with Mikey Two Chins here, need to find out if Hicks can play

  9. Within the first several minutes I heard Cashman say “impact the baseball.” Honestly, isn’t that a large part of what is going wrong? These guys have become way too technical, way too flow chart driven, and way too interested in reinventing the wheel. How about, “he can’t hit?”
When Cashman took up with the psycho girlfriend, did he have sex with her or did he impact her vagina?
When Bruce Bochy won three times in the last five years in San Francisco, I never heard any horseshit like this. Bochy is an old throwback catcher who relates to his players. Ask Didi Gregorious or Castro what impact the baseball means. They wouldn’t have a clue.
Cashman, Girardi and the rest of these nerds do not relate to the players.

  13. Yo CashMan while you’re up at night unable to sleep keep in mind

Justin Wilson, is having a very nice season for the Tigers, pitching to a 0.00 ERA (0.87 FIP) with 15 strikeouts and two walks in eleven innings.

    • Yes Donny thanks for the tip…. I was watching that first inning, the Braves are the complete worst team in baseball at the moment… They’re tanking, have an 80% roster of triple A players, and are a complete embarrassment to the sport

The Mets play this team 19 times, they also play the Marlins and the Phillies who don’t suck at the moment but also have a roster full of minor league players… So the Mets will play 57 games vs teams that are tanking… They should easily win 100 games… The NL East can’t be compared to the AL East, the Mets play in a Triple A division except for the Nats, that’s a 2 team race..

They should be made to play a floor tax for not spending any money, their end result is to be so bad for 3 yr’s they draft in the top 2 or 3.. this yr they have the #1 pick, they traded Shelby Miller to Arizona for last yr’s # 1 pick

They’ll be a decent team by the time they move into their new digs in 2018

That’s the point behind dumping your sellable players at the deadline to reboot faster, but you suck for 3 or 4 yr’s

the Mets sucked for 6 yr’s before they broke out in 2015… This is how baseball is run now, they Yanks are in the beginning throws of their suck term

We have to expect mediocrity for 2 to 3 more yr’s… hang tough

  15. I found an article on the Captains Blog by William Juliano-hopefully this is the link=wp.me/p26aXV-66N. It will warm noogers heart, says not signing Cano led to the problems they are having today. There are a lot of free agents they could have/should have signed that they didn’t.They also gave away Cervelli who has turned into an excellent player. Check it out.
