EVOlving

With our very own moscone in the house, John Wayne Gibbons and the squad formally known as Team Canada never stood a chance as the Yanks returned to  the Mall on Rivera Avenue with a 6-0 win

Chatter Box

Chatter box Al Leiter  churns out at  least  1000 words a minute during his sleep overs  disguised as  NY Yankees broadcasts with BFF Michael Kay as the straight man

At that pace, last night Leiter generated 160,000 words in this 2 hour 40 minute game.. One of those words  was worth having to listen to the other 159,999 that Leiter assaulted us with, “Evolving”

Leiter nailed exactly what Nathan Eovaldi is becoming since being traded for David Phelps and Martin Prado, a project that  has evolved into  a potential top of the rotation pitcher

Eovaldi’s 6 innings, 2 hits, no  runs, 3 BB’s, 5 K’s 100-62 pitches 3.95 ERA shows he still needs some fine tuning, but we’ll  gladly take his last two outings every 5 days and consider ourselves the luckiest fans in MLB..

Nate’s last two games vs Arizona and Toronto, 12 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, 3 BB’s, 10 K’s,  20 ground ball, 9 fly ball outs

The Bunt

With Joey Bats leading off followed by Donaldson and Encarnacion, you almost think, damn if you can get through the first inning clean, you’re cruising until  they  come around again in the 4th inning..I’m not taking anything away  from the Yankees win, but something is missing from this non gunslinger Alex Anthopoulos  Team Canada?

Anyway, that’s their problem and hopefully our good fortune

Evo  got them  1-2-3 in the first, but my philosophy crashed in the 2nd inning as Tulowitzki smacked a 1 out  single, and Paredes walked..A force out left Tulo 90  feet from tying the game at  1, but Barney grounded out 5-3 to  end the threat

In the 3rd inning Evo got into more trouble, a lead off walk to #9 hitter Thole, and Joey Bats singled, with Donaldson coming up….

Oh shit  the Toronto Canadians were ready to  erupt, but for some reason the AL MVP laid down a sac bunt.. At this point you realized Team Canada was a shell of it’s former self.. Last yr Donaldson mauls Eovaldi, or any pitcher 60 feet 6 inches from his bat

“That surprised me,” said Eovaldi,  “Especially from him.”

With Donaldson sacrificing for the greater good of our Bomber heroes, the second biggest AB of the inning for Eovaldi with men now on 2nd and 3rd. 1 out, was punching out the Don B’s favorite parrot trainer Eddie Encarnacion.. The red hot Michael Saunders ended the rally with an F/8

After throwing 55 pitches over the first   three innings, Evo mowed down the next 9  batters on 39 pitches..Girardi tried to  get another 3 batters out of him in the 7th, but Evo walked the lead off batter and Joey Claps immediately brought in Betances

“After the third inning, I felt a lot better. I was able to locate the ball inside,” said Eovaldi, who shifted more to his splitter as the game went on.

Eovaldi was very good, his command was a bit off and it took him 3 innings to  settle in so  the dreaded pitch  count got him before he could  navigate through 7 innings

Evo  pretty much featured a 4 seam fast ball, (57 total) and a nasty splitter (26 total), so  83 of his 100 pitches were bread and butter..

He threw 10  sliders, 3 change ups, 3 curve balls, and one 2 seamer.. All  11 of his swings and misses came from the Split (6) and the 4 seamer (5)

Eovaldi could potentially be a tough day  at  the office if he puts it all  together consistently… A 97 to  100 MHP fast ball, with  an 89 MPH splitter that renders a batter clueless when he’s on

The Big One and His Court

With a slim 2 run lead, 9 outs to  go,  Joey Claps was in line to feature his Big 3… He went to Betances after Eovaldi walked Tulowitzki  to  start  the 7th inning. 14 pitches later, one big loud out, an F/7, and the 2-0 lead was preserved by Biggin #1

The Pillar F/7 looked like a 2 run Tater, but he didn’t quite get it all

Paredes struck out swinging. 0 2
Tulowitzki stole second. 0 2
Pillar flied out to left. 0 2
Smoak hit for Barney. 0 2
Smoak struck out swinging. 0 2

The Yanks tacked on 4 more runs over the 7th  and 8th innings so Miller and Chapman  got the night off.. Joey Claps was able to now slum it with Yates who  walked a batter in the 8th, but  created no furher  damage…  Cessa hit a batter in the 9th but with  a 6-0 hole to  climb out of, the former Team Canada crawled into  a fetal position and excepted their fate

The Run(s) Down

The Yanks scored 1 run in the first  1 in the 4th, 2 in the 7th,  and 2 in the 8th..

Joey Bats played a lead off Ellsbury single  into  a triple, and Captain Gardner walked, to put runners on the corners with no outs in the 1st inning.. They  could only muster 1 run on a Beltran  ground out

R.A. DICKEY PITCHING FOR TORONTO TOR NYY
Ellsbury tripled to right. 0 0
Gardner walked. 0 0
Teixeira struck out looking. 0 0
Beltrán grounded into fielder’s choice to first, Ellsbury scored, Gardner out at second. 0 1
Beltrán to second on passed ball by Thole. 0 1
Ackley struck out swinging. 0 1
1 RUNS, 1 HITS, 0 ERRORS

Beltran kept his DH prowess intact when he slammed a solo HR in the 4th inning, so Beltran  was responsible for both Bomber runs until  they blew it open in the 7th  and 8th innings

The big hit in  the 7th inning came off the bat  of Austin Romine, a clutch  2 out double to make it 3-0… Ellsbury scratched out an RBI single to make it 4-0

Ackley reached on infield single to shortstop. 0 2
Castro grounded out to shortstop, Ackley to second. 0 2
Headley grounded out to second, Ackley to third. 0 2
Gregorius walked. 0 2
Romine hit a ground rule double to right, Ackley scored, Gregorius to third. 0 3
Biagini relieved Dickey. 0 3
Ellsbury reached on infield single to shortstop, Gregorius scored, Romine to third. 0 4
Gardner flied out to left. 0 4
2 RUNS, 3 HITS, 0 ERRORS

A rare Teixeira knock and 2 walks loaded the bases with no  outs in the 8th.. Eventually they  plated 2 runs but it took  a while

Teixeira singled to left center. 0 4
Beltrán walked, Teixeira to second. 0 4
Hicks walked, Teixeira to third, Beltrán to second. 0 4
Castro grounded into fielder’s choice to shortstop, Teixeira out at home, Beltrán to third, Hicks to second. 0 4
Venditte relieved Chavez. 0 4
Headley hit sacrifice fly to center, Beltrán scored, Hicks to third. 0 5
Gregorius singled to right, Hicks scored, Castro to second. 0 6
Romine struck out swinging. 0 6

With Boston  winning their 3rd in a row, the Yanks remained 5.5 games out, but the Bombers were able to get back to  .500 (22-22) the first  time they’ve been  there   since April  14th

Time to make some hay before Toronto  wakes up, the Yanks are finally on a 6 game roll

Francesa had a rough day at the office.. His Warriors look lost, his heart throb Matt Harvey even loster

his player and team scouting reports, insider trading tips and overall knowledge of stocks, bonds, politics, baseball, Hoops, golf, Horse racing, football, hockey, Pop Warner football, where to sit at the Garden, Citi Field and Yankee stadium so you can rub elbows with Stars in all walks of life, all seem to be backfiring on him

Man are we gonna miss this over blown gas bag when he goes to pasture

  2. Bondsie must have had a thin night skirt chasing because the Mausoleum in the South Bronx looked deserted.
Rows & rows of empty seats could be seen on every foul ball.
Bon Jovi and Soriano had good seats tho,,
Pathetic statement on George’s devil spawn.

    • they had the balls to say there was 35,174 (70.9% full) – % is based on regular season capacity

I’m sure moscone needed two cabs to transport his harem back to Queens lol

  3. What a night in Da Bronx! Evo evolving right before our eyes! Joey Bats plays a single into a triple! Great night at the Mall On Rivera Avenue. The only thing missing was the lack of Beaver. Always great viewing at the ballpark, last night it was not so. Even the camera guy, finding people to put up on the big screen, was having a tough night. But the game itself, saved the night! 6 in a row! Break up the Yankees!?

    • looks like an off night ‘scone, oh well, it was a good night to concentrate on baseball then, like the rest of us lol

I don’t get the subscriber ESPN pub, but Mikey 2 Chins dropped some Olney intel

Beltran has a limited no-trade clause rather than a full no-trade clause like most of the team’s veteran players. Buster Olney (subs. req’d) reports the Yankees can trade Beltran to 14 teams without his permission. Among those 14 teams are the Indians, Nationals, Royals, Cardinals, Rays, Tigers, and Dodgers. I’m not sure who the other seven clubs are. What does this mean for Beltran’s future in pinstripes? Let’s talk it out.

Bad omen when they loaded them up and couldn’t score
I guess Arod is now safe to come back

Heard the Shreve inning on the radio side, Joey pushed the wrong button on that move

Then again Justin Wilson isn’t here but Chad Green is
