HayMaker Tour Takes A HayMaker

with 7 comments

It’s always fun to ride the wave of a 5 game winning streak!!!

It’s a hell of a lot of fun!…Bomber Universe morphs into the dance floor at  Uncle Bob’s 3rd  wedding reception…Unk married a stripper and all of her co-workers were invited

It’s good for business:  the posers and millennials grow  extensions on their Alligator Arms and once again  pay  the freight at  the Mall on Rivera Avenue….

And for the old school crew, it’s a momentary departure from the season long Twilight Zone loop this team has been on..

Unfortunately the Tigers, a plus .500 team tossed two of their better  pitchers (Verlander and Fullmer) vs the Bombers on Saturday  and Sunday,  and the superhero  juggernaut offense  that  abused a depleted Angel pitching staff, didn’t quite channel all  the NYY  superhero’s  in the house on Old Timers Day or O.T.D eve..

Verlander and Fullmer, plus their posse of relievers, the Wilson’s, Greene,  and Rodriguez  held the Yanks to  2 runs in the last 18 innings, while  Bomber hurlers coughed up 10 runs over the two games…..

Tigers won behind Verlander on Friday  6-1 and behind Fullmer 4-1 on Sunday.. Tanaka once again on 4 days rest  was nothing more then a very expensive middle of the rotation  type starter..

The difference in ERA when Tanaka gets 5 days opposed to  4 days rest  is the difference between  an Ace and an average starter..

Tanaka’s struggles on four days rest continue, as he’s pitching to a 4.70 ERA in six starts this season. But on five days rest, Tanaka is a completely different pitcher, pitching to a 1.26 ERA in five starts.

I know CashMan has no  depth but this might be a no brainer fix  he should try to  address, if they’re serious about contending… And Girardi  saying “this is what  we have, with no  days off,  so he has to get it done”, is nothing but some misguided John Wayne bull shit

Tanaka quacks like a duck on 4 days rest, get him some help, and pinch your pennies someplace else…

Tanaka 6.1 innings, 6 hits, 5 runs, 2 HR’s was mugged by Castellans who homered to right center (402 feet) and Ian Kinsler who  got him for a 3 run HR  to left (378 feet).. Yates allowed a Tanaka inherited run to  score on a Kindler 2 run double

The Yankee offense was almost  non existent, the top  5 in the order went a collective 1 for 18.. Ref batting 9th had two hits and an RBI, Castro, D-Gregorius, Headley, and Gardner had a knock apiece

Pineda was fine, 6 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs, 8 K’s, 2 BB’s..114 pitches… Detroit scratched out 2 runs, his problem besides  run  support,  he couldn’t go deeper then  18  outs, and with the Yanks down 2-0, Psycho Joe had to  go  too the Shuttle Butts

Swarzak relieved Pineda in the 7th, Aviles reached on infield single to shortstop and
Kinsler homered to left (387 feet) to make it 4-0, Game over in the 7th inning…

The Yanks only picked up  4 hits, 2 came off Fuller in 6 innings, 2 came off Justin Wilson in 1 inning, the 8th, when  they  scored their only run of the game on 2 singles, (Ellsbury and Headley) and a walk by Beltran..

Tale of the Tape

The Yanks are now 31-32, 5.5 games out of 1st, 3 games behind the 3rd place Toronto..

They’re 10-17 vs the AL East

 14-23 vs plus .500  Teams

17-9 vs sub .500 teams

The 18 game Haymaker Tour now sits at  5-2 with  the Yanks heading to Colorado  who is a sub .500 team, for 2 games, then onto Minnesota, the worst team in baseball  for 4..

The next  11 games are against Colorado  and Minnesota, 6 on the road, 5 at home…

We Like Ike

In what I considered good news, sorry SwishHawk fans, Ike Davis was finally signed by CashMan

The Yankees and Davis have agreed Sunday to a major league contract, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed. He will join the team in Colorado, where it begins a two-game series against the Rockies on Tuesday.

This will be a fun watch, if Davis has any gas at  all left in the tank, Yankee Stadium is the perfect place for him to hit.. Plus he’s a legit first baseman, so  a platoon with Ref is perfect..

Ike at  AAA

.268 .350 .437 .786 with  4 HR’s 25 RBI’s

He’s a definite platoon at the moment his splits vs LHP

100 .182 .133 .315… 3 for 30

vs RHP

.313 .392 .518 .910… 35 for 112

  1. just watching the Fullmer game, good looking young pitcher, but you see why the Mets flipped him, possible injury waiting to happen with the way he pitches.. You do like him as a pitcher, and Larry Brooks has a good article why Fullmer should have opened Hal’s eyes

this is why you flip guys in their last yr of contracts for prospects when you’re out of contention… Which everybody knows that’s the case

    • Yanks ran into 2 real pitchers and got shut down, disgracing themselves in front of all the old timers. They still were 5-2 on the home stand so its not the end of the world. They finally get a day off after playing 40 games in 41 days! It was an incredibly bad schedule especially this early in the season. As we all have been saying, if they are going to make a move and actually stay above .500 now is the time with all the so called patsies coming up. But with our crew, who knows. Like DonB I am excited that they signed Ike Davis,
a member of the tribe! I liked him with the Mets,he has a swing made for the Stadium, lets just hope he can avoid the jinx, stay healthy and the moron manager will give him a chance to play. Yanks better have their hitting shoes on in Colorado-their starter on Tuesday has an era over 8-lol

  2. Joel Sherman ‏@Joelsherman1 Jun 10 Manhattan, NY
10 of 15 AL teams are .500 or better and only #Twins #Angels #Athletics are lower than .466.

Yeah Joel and one of the 5 who ain’t .500 are the Yanks…… Sherman was busy compiling all the Haymaker tour stats, even he had the Yanks churning

The real culprit in this fake run at a Ring, a team 1 game under .500 is still only 3 games out of a WC….So you can take this fake run all the way into late August, and by mid September when it’s obvious you’re booking Tee times and not playoff hotel rooms, it’s too late to trade off value pieces and hopefully get back a pitcher like Fullmer who we saw shut down the Yanks yesterday

  3. I been touting Ike for us since he left the Mutts.
I think he can be one of those under-achiever’s that Bloom in The Stadium.
I been wrong but I like the cut of this kid’s jib.
    Time will tell though,,

  4. Soler hasn’t panned out yet but he’s always been on my wish list

Chapman and Gardner to the Cubs
Soler and let’s pick from their system

Baez could play 2nd Castro 3rd

Betances and Chapman for Schwarber but he’s off limits
