This Ain’t Your Daddy’s Yankees

Congrats to Dustin Johnson

No longer Wayne’s World

The Rocky Horror Picture Show

The Yanks lost their 3rd straight game to  the Colorado Rockies  last night 8-4,  in yet another very boring, lack of focus and energy performance by Hal’s Pals

The Yanks apparently wanted to extend their Monday off day to Tuesday, and once again, I pity the fools who paid blood money to  watch  this crap  at  the Mall on Rivera Avenue

Yankees RISP: 0-10 (Headley 0-2, McCann 0-1, Rodriguez 0-2, Hicks 0-2, Beltrán 0-2, Castro 0-1)
Team LOB: 7

The Sleeper Sell’s: The good news Beltran and Gardner, two  sell high players had 2 hits apiece..

The Keepers: D-Gregorius continued his torrid pace with 2 hits, one a triple, a run scored and an RBI…Refsynder despite a blatant you have to make that play  error on a grounder to  1st base, also had two hits, one a double.. Castro  contributed with a knock.. That’s 9 of the 10 hits on the night for key performers..

McCann got the other knock, but he also struck out 3 times.. McCann has an un-tradeable contract, but that might be a blessing as kids like Sanchez and Romine, plus the pipeline of Kyle Higashioka and  Luis Torrens could use an old timer showing them  the ropes

Again unfortunately ARod is around for 1 more year blocking the DH so McCann will have to  catch more then hit, while he stunts the growth of Romine and Sanchez.. He can become the full  time DH in 2018

Per usual  the Yanks got no  clutch  hitting, Rodriguez grounded into a double play in the 1st inning, it plated a run but destroyed a rally….

Headley  Hicks and ARod went 0-11

The game was really lost when Nova showed up  with nothing and coughed up  3 runs in the 1st inning, 1 in the 2nd, and only lasted 4 innings, 8 hits, 6 runs, 5 earned, 1BB, 2 K’s, 2 HR’s.. It was truly  a pathetically lethargic performance that showed absolutely no urgency or passion, another words,  a typical Nova start

The ARod DP really did  help dot the I’s and cross the T’s on the funk Nova put the Yanks in with his first inning 3 run debacle

The Gidrool Effect

Nova was so bad Psycho Joe had to get the Gidrools up  early in this one

The Human White Flag Nick Goody 2 Shoes was the first  sacrificial lamb to  warm up in the 1st inning.. In fact Goody warmed up  so much he actually pitched longer then Nova despite only his once again erratic 1.1 innings, 3 hits, 2 runs, 4 K’s 1 HR showing up in the box score

Goody is fast becoming Goody 2 Runs, really Cashman, this is what  you bring up from your farm  stash?

When Goody arrives the game is either  lost, gonna be lost,  or close to it, so  it was standing room only at the bar inside the Mall…Not a bad money making strategy, bore the fans into  drinking watered down overpriced booze

The Rockies scored 8 runs off Nova and Goody then  went into  a prevent defense so fellow Gidrools, Belier, Yates and Swarzak actually pitched 3.1 innings, 4 hits, no  runs, 8 K’s between them.

Just think,  if the Yanks could have scored 9 runs they might have won this game

the Whole 9

The Sell Hawks

The NY media has had it, they’re going full  force with wanting Hal to back  up  the truck

Yanks State the Obvious

If last night wasn’t a declaration of mediocrity, then I have no idea what is?

Brutally Honest Brian

It might not happen this week with the Twins coming to  town after one more game with the 34-36 Rockies tonight, but in the next  3 weeks Brian Cashman will be waltzing into Boss Junior’s office to  advise George’s boy, This Ain’t Your Daddy’s Yankees son

“I hope this team declares itself in such a way, one way or the other, that it’s pretty damn obvious,’’ he said.

Bro, this team declared itself after the 1st month of the season, start lining up  your ducks…

“Heartbreak Hotel”

Time to  cut the apron strings, the apple that just  fell off your family  tree is rotten, take a sledge hammer to that chipped block and turn it into a pile of rubble

Those are 3 metaphors Cashman can use to  soften  the blow when he  tells Hal it’s over, nothing personal BJ, it’s just  business..

Expiration Dates

The two speciality items at the top of the Bomber’s Craig’s List are Shotgun Chapman  and Carlos Beltran..

Unfortunately after watching Beltran take MLB defense back 50 years last night with the kind of range and mobility you’d expect from a 39 yr old man playing a 25 yr old man’s game, he may have cut his value in half..

Yes you can send Beltran to right field in a pinch and hope he doesn’t cost you a crooked number, but Carlos’ real  value is with a bat in his hand, “and everybody knows it”

So  he can’t look that  attractive to NL team’s, which  thins the heard of buyers

Also unfortunate, per normal MLB  business standards, it’s still  too  early to sell, we’re looking at post All Star Game through July 31st.. That’s not chiseled, but with the watered down 2nd Wild Card in play, teams looking for more fannies in the seats and advertisers to  stick, can fake their season longer

The only problem, Chapman might keep  coughing up  HR’s, which clouds his invincibility, and Beltran  might land on the DL before Cashman  can swing any deals…Two other problems also arise, Beltran can’t really showcase his DH prowess with ARod in the line-up, and the Yanks can’t seem to  get consistent leads for Chapman  to  close out

The Eye Test

We’ve already done the math, the player break downs, the records against opponents, on paper the Yanks are what  they  are, barely a .500 team at best..

When you look at teams the Bombers play (sans the Angels minus Trout, A’s and Twins), those teams have younger and better position players then the Yanks

Yes no  doubt if Teixeira, ARod, McCann, Beltran, and Ellsbury were in their prime, this would be a $215M offensive juggernaut on pace to  winning 95 games.. Prime time Teixeira, ARod, McCann, Beltran, and Ellsbury ain’t walking through that  door anytime soon

Only one player gets better with  age in the post PED era and that’s Grand Papi Ortiz.. I wouldn’t be surprised if  he’s exempt from drug testing, the deal he had to make so MLB could cash in on his farewell  tour..

Not Pitching In

If Tanaka could pitch on 5 days rest, and Pineda, Eovaldi,  and Nova lived up to their ceiling performances, The Bombers might be rivaling the Indians as the best pitching staff in the AL instead of  loitering around 11th out of 15.. Anybody seeing this get any more consistent????

The Ace of the staff is a 300 pound 35 yr old with a knee brace holding his game upright.. Even if Sabathia guts it out with favorable results, whose betting the farm on that holding up?

Hey maybe we should file Sabathia under the Expiration Date heading, who needs a former Cy Young  crafty lefty with a 2.20 ERA?

We’ll have to let this play out, but if you want some juice in this season it’s not gonna come from watching this un watchable team play baseball, it’s gonna be who’s leaving, who’s staying, and who’s coming in to help  build a core..

I’m not advocating Hal  eat $40M like Boston is doing,  let’s take baby  steps and just  trade off the expiring contracts… Possibly Miller if you can steal  a number 1 or 2 pitching prospect or Kyle Schwarber from  the Cubs

    • That’s why he’ll bring back the biggest return Donny
It’s gotta hurt for it to be a successful trade

9 HRs 34 runs facing the Rockies

      Lol

There is nobody on the farm system that can pitch relief

And CC returned to palookaville very quickly blowing that 4 run lead

Fix the back up lights on the dump truck Hal we’re begging

Or start to bring up starters from the farm that can pitch relief on the varsity

Like Severino who can’t pitch more then a few innings as a starter at this point but would be a decent reliever in 2016

Sale pitched relief for 2 yr’s before becoming a monster Ace… Speaking of Sale I really hope Chicago holds Boston up for at least 3 of their top 4 prospects, like Moncada, Benintendi and Espinoza

if you’re gonna hand a team an Ace with a ridiculously cheap contract it better wipe out your farm system, or at least rip into the top 3 to 5 prospects

  2. Kay trying to justify the 26 and 20 record over the last 46 games, but he doesn’t break down who they beat and who they can’t beat….

  3. In Aaron Judge’s last 10 games, he has hit .353 with five homers and 10 RBIs.

Bad Rockies bull pen Yanks have a shot maybe get back in it, although it might be better to take it on the chin.. Maybe the tradeable pieces will hit and pitch good regardless
