Yanks Do Dallas

with 5 comments

If Benjamin Franklin were still  alive, and an avid baseball fan, he’d no  doubt say they’re  only three things certain in life: death, taxes, and Dallas Keuchel beating the NY Yankees

Keuchel has been NY’s kryptonite in his career, up until last night the Bombers have an anemic .178 .212 .215 .427 offensive line vs the bearded wonder who is having an off season

Keuchel looked anything like a pitcher sporting a 4.70 ERA, and a 1.3 WHIP.. He cruised through the 1st 14 batters with only Romine touching him for a single in the 3rd inning

The Romine knock was erased quickly when Hicks smacked into  a DP…The next Bomber to break Keuchel’s spell came in the 5th inning when D-Gregorius blasted a ground rule double to  deep  center field

Shockingly Headless went up  the middle for a clutch RBI single and the game was knotted 1-1…

Keuchel worked a clean 6th, escaped a lead off Beltran double in the 7th, but couldn’t over come the Romine Empire in the 8th.. Headless of all people led off the 8th  with a single, and Romine stroked a loud double over the head of Gomez in centerfield to plate the winning run

It takes two  to  Tango so all this pitcher’s duel was made possible by Mike Pineda,  who after the Red Sox mugged him for 3 HR’s  10 days ago, in his last 2 outings, a stellar, 13 innings, 10 hits, 1 run, 16 K’s, 4 BB’s, 1 HR…

Last night he held the Astros to  1 run, a first pitch lead off HR to George Springer, and actually ate 21 outs for Psycho Joe’s new / old formula bull pen to  close out

7 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, 8 K’s, 2 BB’s, 1 HR..

Pineda induced 19 swings and misses out of 103 total pitches, he retired 17 of 19 batters between the Springer homer and an Altuve infield single in the 6th, including seven on strikeouts.. Only Valbueno got to him for 2 singles, a lead off knock in the 2nd inning, and one in the 4th.. Gomez’s single in the 7th  was the 5th  and last hit off PineTop

He’s compiled a 3.30 ERA in his last ten starts

Betances was nasty striking out the side in the 8th, Miller, which  we’ve seen  some of lately had another interesting inning getting in and out of trouble..

A lead off single set up the drama, but  hot shot Bregman was punched out in a big spot for both Miller and the 22 yr old rookie who just  destroyed the Futures Games.. Gattis looked to  bounce into  a game ending 5-4-3 DP but Castro didn’t step on the bag, and Miller now had 2 men on with one out

With  things starting to heat up,  Miller induced a nifty 6-4-3 game ending DP, great job by D-Gregorius and Castro getting the speedy Carlos Gomez, handing the Yanks their 51st win

The Bombers at 51-48 are at their high water mark of 3 games over .500..

There are 5 more games on this road trip before the deadline on August  1st…If #TeamSell  wants to  stay  together, it would behoove them to  win both series, minimum of 4-2 in the last  6 games could keep Beltran and possibly Nova in Stripes

The Yanks are still 4.5 games  out of the 2nd WC spot, and 7.5 games behind Baltimore, so the playoff chances have to be in the 8/9% range…

The Yanks have won ten of their last 14 games, against  the Indians, Red Sox, Orioles, Giants, and Astros,  3 first place teams and a surging Astros group.. Of course the one team  that  was full  strength, Boston  took  that  series 2 games to  1..

Despite this solid run, the Yanks can’t pick up  any ground, their playoff aspirations will come down to  mano  a mano meetings inside their division

Yanks have 10 games vs Boston / 10 games vs Toronto / 9 games vs Baltimore /  13 games vs Tampa

the Whole 9

  1. Yanks getting Warren back, makes the Castro for Brendan Ryan trade look pretty good…That’s if Warren can restore the relief prowess he had last yr

  3. scary that CashAss had discussions about Eloy Jimenez and his crew picked the SS, who had a higher baseball IQ, which I understand, safe bet

    the Jimenez kid is 19 yr’s old .330 /.370 /.522 /.892 11 HR’s 64 RBI’s .. this kid is a 6’4” 19 yr old with pop….

I’m sure the Torres kid has more value, if a SS falters he can be moved around the diamond, not so much with an OF, CashMan took the safe bet, but the Yanks still have only 1 guy in the system who plays a corner with pop

Jimenez could have been the 2nd.. not one media pundit is asking Cash about those discussions? Not that he’s gonna fess up, but it would have been nice to hear somebody in the media not carry CashMan’s water on this deal

Yanks don’t get these chances very often, and i guess based on his truck record I don’t trust Cashman unless he’s got a money whip in his hand
