No Smyly Faces In NY

with 20 comments

The Pittsburgh Pirates are 52-50, the NY Yankees 52-51, on Saturday afternoon, the Pirates,  who  consider themselves still in it, traded former Yankee turned All Star closer Mark Melancon to  the DC Nats in exchange for a talented but struggling reliever, and one of their prospects 21 yr old Taylor Hearn, who  isn’t listed in the Nationals top  30 prospects depth  chart

The struggling reliever Filipe Rivero will now set up  for new closer Tony Watson.. The Pirates have justified this move by saying they have a soft schedule remaining, and that Melancon was a free agent to be, so their All Star closer was  expendable ????

Pay  attention Al Yankzeera, this is the New Baseball World, you might want to join it

This of course impacts the Andrew Miller fiasco, which turned out to be a big nothing

Per reported rumors Friday, by legit MLB pundits,  the  Washington Nats  would offer #1 prospect Luke Giolito straight up  for Miller, it was reported by Jon Morosi, who no doubt had been up  for days trying to  out scoop the law firm of  Heymen, Sherman, and Rosenthal.

Jon Morosi ‏@jonmorosi  Jul 29
Sources who have spoken with #Nats believe they would trade Lucas Giolito to #Yankees for Andrew Miller, straight up.

Of course Heyman not to be out done shot it down

Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeyman  Jul 29

for the record, yankees would not do this

To  the rescue came  our Sensie Joel Sherman who confirmed the Yanks never heard this offer, but if they  did would want more then Giolito who hasn’t pitched well at the varsity level..

From Sensie Joel Sherman

Jon Morosi of tweeted Friday that outside executives “believe” the Nats would trade Giolito straight up for Miller. The Yankees have not heard that offer, nor would they make the deal if offered.

Giolito is No. 1 in some prospect rankings. However, two scouts not from the Yankees have raised concerns about the righty’s tenacity, saying his performance this year has not matched his reputation. The Yankees do like him, but have enough concerns that they would want other pieces to mitigate some fears they have or they would simply want a different combination of Washington prospects.

Per Morosi who  got the rumor wrong, 75% of NYY fans that follow him wanted this deal  completed

At the moment Andrew Miller is going nowhere unless the Yanks lethargic 6-3 loss to Drew Smyly and the lowly Rays  convinced  Hal, Brillo Levine, Fox Sports who owns 80% of YES, the advertisers at WFAN and the YES Network that it’s time to hitch  their wagon to  a new sales pitch in the Bronx

To  further discombobulate the situation the Al Yankzeera honchos have to  take into  account their yearly cash  cow the Subway Series is coming up this week.. For Christ Sake even Honest Mike Francesa is working the microphone for this extravaganza!!!

So Miller will probably be in Stripes the rest of the season, unless rumored teams Cleveland, Texas, and the Dodgers jump in the Miller sweepstakes.. I would almost count out Cleveland who just beat out the Mets for Jonny Lucroy by handing over their #6 (Mejia) and #12 (Chang) prospects

If the Yanks were gonna pass on a Giolito deal  straight up, and teams, sans the Cubs are opposed to  giving up any of their  top  5 prospects,  I see Miller’s asking price way  too high, unless the whole Melancon / Washington thing snapped NY back to reality..

It also didn’t help that Chapman blew his first save in Chicago yesterday

The Miller chatter was joined by the McCann to Atlanta rumor, but again I see this as an extreme long shot… Per Joel Sherman:

1. McCann has a full no-trade clause and has consistently expressed how much he loves playing for the Yankees. However, he has continued to make an Atlanta suburb his offseason home.

2. McCann is owed two years at $34 million after this season, and the Braves value him as roughly a $10 million-to-$12 million player annually and would want the Yankees to eat about $5 million annually. The Yankees’ current position is not to eat money in any trade.

3. The Braves are trying to re-acquire a player they drafted in the second round in 2002, but want to give up less in prospects than the Yankees’ current request. As of Saturday, Yankees officials did not consider a trade a front-burner possibility.

While I understand the financial ramifications of a August 1st Fire Sale, I’ve  come to  the conclusion the  Al Yankzeera  business model reminds me of a group that has entered the Indy 500 car race, but they’re driving  a 1906 Stanley Steamer in an effort to  cross the finish line 1st

The “Yankee Way” is starting to tarnish the Brand that Steinbrenner and Levine claim to be desperately trying to protect.. How MLB teams now conduct  business has changed, the Yanks better change with it.. This notion that #TeamSell is  a sign of weakness is as preposterous  as say  Mike Francesa thinking he’s bringing you breaking news before the community of people that use microblogging service Twitter do

As we’ve come to  find out, both  the Internet and  Dinosaur Francesa have a tendency to  jump the shark on intel, but while Francesa is reaching out to  a limited local NY audience, using his sources, Twittersphere is instantaneously providing content around the world from insiders much more connected then Honest Mike

As presently constructed the 2016 Bomberbusiness model resembles a Flip Phone in a Smart Phone era.. While small market franchises like the Padres or Big Market front offices like the Red Sox are realizing mistakes and cutting their losses by eating bad assets that  are clogging their roster, the NYY refuse to  concede mistakes

“Let’s be Honest” Al Yankzeera thinks you’re a complete Dolt, and Brillo Levine came out and told you so

Beltran is NY’s best hitter, but he’s their worst defender, and a team  that has trouble scoring runs needs to make sure he’s always in a position to  succeed, DHing  95% of the time solves that problem..

ARod is NY’s most expensive bench player and still owed, pro-rated about $30M until  the end of 2017.. His only position is DH, but after being hung out to  dry yesterday by Psycho Joe, Alex is down to .206 .254 .360 .614

ARod hadn’t started a game since July 22nd, (6 games) in the last 6 games prior to yesterday’s Golden Sombrero performance he’s had one AB..  If that move  wasn’t a blatant attempt  at character assassination I don’t know what is…

Psycho Joe, king of the analytic Binder not only inserts a rusty 40 yr old into his line-up, he puts him in against Drew Smyly who  historically owns him 182 .182 .273 .455, and he bats him Clean-Up!!!!

That move reminded me of the Producers, except ARod actually did bomb on stage

“I had a chance to make my case tonight, and I didn’t do a good job of that,” he said. “I didn’t do myself any favors tonight, that’s for sure.’’

Not really Alex, you were Jorge Posada’d my friend, either on purpose or it was an act of just plain stupidity on behalf of whoever made that  call, P-Joe or Cashman, or Al Yankzeera?

If the Yanks trade Beltran and or Miller today or tomorrow before 4 PM, they’re sending up  the White Flag… If they keep ARod but set him up  to  fail like P-Joe did yesterday by, the tail  continues to  wag the dog, and the Fabulous Faux will continue from the Subway  Series to  the first  week in October

At the moment the Yanks are 6.5 behind Division leader Toronto, and 4.5 behind 2nd WC Boston who now happen to be just  1 game ahead of the Tigers

After losing two  straight to  the Rays  the Yanks now have a 14-22 record vs AL East opponents.. They’re 5-5 vs Baltimore, 4-4 vs Tampa Bay, 3-6 vs Boston, and 2-7 vs Toronto

They’ve been outscored 15-5 in the last 3 games, all losses

The dynamic middle of the order who  were called on to  carry the team this year ARod .206 .254 .360 .614 and Humpty Teixeira .192 .270 .323 .593 with a combined HR total of 18   HR’s have dropped off the face of the earth

The third wheel in the Bombers power trio Bubba McCann hasn’t been much better .235 .334 .430 .764, but if you throw in his 15 HR’s and .764 OPS, he’s Babe Ruth  compared to Humpty  and Dumpty

I have no idea what  the Bombers should do, the team isn’t any good, they’re old in strategic spots, they have been and would need to  continue to play grind out playoff type baseball but do  they have the players to  do  it for the next 2 months?

They’re record of 1 game over .500 after 103 games says No, they’re position on paper of only being 4.5 games out of a wild card play in game says Yes

The illusion they’re still in it, and remaining status quo, hoodwinks the Pink Hats that Brillo Levine and Lonny Trost covet

Not trading Beltran  and keeping ARod continues to make a mockery out of the whole affair…Unfortunately playing around .500 allows the Al Yankzeera slogan  “we’ll keep the light on suckers” a sure thing, and we know one thing for sure, this team can play  .500 baseball  with  the best of them

the Whole 9

  7. How do we drop 2 games to the worst team in the AL and Girardi keeps his job?
He said they were “must win” games, right ??
We did NOT win em, did we ??
He bats # 13 and he gets a Golden Sombrero !
    Great managing.

Beltran will be next if they can get the price up

      July 31, 2016 at 10:43 am

    • I’m with you, Donnie B when it comes to Psycho Joe. Arod gets the Golden Sombrero and I’m looking for Psycho to get a Golden Shower from an equally psycho Cashman ex girlfriend.
Clean sweep all of these bastards.

  10. How many effin Double Plays can our “big bats” hit into in one Season?

    July 31, 2016 at 2:10 pm

    • I don’t know but I like this young Snell kid

      July 31, 2016 at 2:25 pm

  11. Donny the way I look at it Frazier is going to AAA to play 3 OF positions, he’s gonna hopefully replace Gardner in 2017 so he’s my new favorite NYY……

supposed to be a grinder with good bat speed, line to line hitter, a real 2 way ballplayer, unlike the Captain Gardner

    Let’s hope he’s the goods

  12. I was shocked this morning turning on Quick Pitch to see on the bottom line multiple sources say the Indians have acquired Andrew Miller!!!!-WTF!!!! It seems the powers that are have seen enough of this garbage. I am sorry to see Miller go,he is an incredible reliever, but they got 4 guys for him,the top of the Indians system. So they have made 2 trades and gotten back 8 prospects! We can only hope these guys pan out like they are supposed to. While they are making trades they should try to get rid of McCann,Ellsbury,Hicks and any of the other dreck infesting the roster. Its time for a change, the old Yankee guard isn’t getting the job done, isn’t going anywhere. This game today is another adventure in frustration, tons of base runners followed by double plays to kill the rally. Beltran just homered-they need to wrap him in bubble wrap to keep him healthy,he is the only hitter on the team. We can only hope that more deals are coming before the deadline.

  13. I guess it wasn’t Gary Tuck’s fault afterall.
I am also anxious to see how they are going to sell those thousand dollar and up seats for the next two months.

    July 31, 2016 at 4:04 pm

  14. I’d rather watch Refsnyder learn to play 1st then that big stiff nostril “no run” texeira,
How does # 13 not retire out of embarrassment?
    The mighty white McCant too?
Go back to Atlanta and quickly !!

I left to walk my pup for a hike when Carlis Danger failed to drive in tying runs.
Never even put the radio on, neither.
I knew they weren’t coming back.
