Dodger Town Moves To Rivera Avenue

with 16 comments

Well  the Bomber kids got their first  taste of Turf Toe last night, that’s trailer-hood slang for stubbing your toe trying to  prevent  a rival team from kicking your ass in your own house…

Man  that  was an impressive, almost WBC / Soccer  type enthusiasm from a whole section of LA Dodger fans dressed in Dodger Blue partying like it was 1981.. It’s been 35 years since the Dodgers brought a World Series Ring back  to LA, so  their fan base is a desperate bunch, happy as hell last night, but desperate to  break  the dark  stage

“It is unusual,” said Yankees left fielder Brett Gardner, who was closest to the group that seemed to stand in the thousands. “Even the Red Sox, when you are playing the Red Sox, maybe they don’t have as quite as big of a following or aren’t quite as rowdy, so it is a little bit different.”

Anyway  good for them, we hope they have a wonderful time in NYC this week, just not the hours from 7 to 11 PM…

“I really wanted to beat the Yankees,” said De Leon, who grew up in Puerto Rico as a Red Sox fan and was thrilled to get the chance to pitch at Yankee Stadium.

Well you did a  good job, now I hope your quote lands on a NYY bulletin board.. Do they still have bulletin boards? Forget that, I hope you LA kids went out on the town, with Puig and Seager picking up the tab…. Maybe a long night of  chasing coked up runway models while tasting a libation or 10 will knock some of piss and vinegar out of this NL West 1st place team….

It’s wonderful to see Dave Roberts healthy, and he looks like a terrific leader, but he was the last MFer we needed to watch calling the shots after pretty much kissing the division goodbye

The Yanks  gave the Dodger fans a lot to  cheer about that’s for sure..

It all  started with Bryan Mitchell’s inability to miss bats, the problem escalated when the numerous balls in play found holes for knocks, the combination morphed into disaster when Judge misplayed an F/9 into  2 runs, and Sanchez threw an ill-advised pick-off attempt into  right center field causing more trouble then  you wanted to  see..

Though Judge did hit a 453-foot homer in the fifth, it was not a good night for the Baby Bombers. Gary Sanchez had a throwing error. Tyler Austin struck out four times. Judge had his error in right.

“It’s tough,” Judge said. “Mitchell was out there grinding, and I just didn’t make the play for him. I’m always trying to make the play, but I just didn’t that time.”

Mitchell might have been  the biggest  disappointment of all, juxtaposed to his counterpart on the mound Jose De Leon who  was making just his 2nd MLB start  ever, the energy level never matched what  the Dodgers brought to  the table…

It was 6-1 before the Yanks could even get their feel  for what De Leon was offering them, tough hole to  dig out of

A case will be made that Mitchell was facing a LH dominated line-up, so  a bad match-up, hence only 3 swings and misses in 47 pitches… “That’s not what  you’re looking for” from a legit starter, again  we have to be  patient…

In 24 career games vs LHB in 24 games, 25 for 83 / .301 .389 .446 .835..

Mitchell  was somewhat better in 2015, 19  games, 14 for 53 /  .264 .361 .396 .757

This year, in 2 games, 6 for 14  /  .429 .429 .500 .929

Unfortunately  if you check Mitch’s splits, he aint that good vs RHB either

Mitchell’s line for the night 2.1 innings 8 hits, 6 runs, 2 earned, no BB, why take pitches you can hit them, 2 K’s

Heller and Pazos were, per usual also tattooed, they pitched an inning each.. Heller gave up  two hits and a HR to Turner, a RHB…. Pazos a LHP coughed up  a HR to Puig a RHB

Now what  excuse do  we have?

The Dodgers were all over Mitchell, Heller, and Pazos, but were completely shut down by the much maligned Richard Bleier

4 innings, no  runs, no hits, 1 BB, 3 K’s.. Belier was brilliant, and he gave the offense a chance to chip  away  at the 6-1 lead, but they  were stuck in the mud all night picking up only 5 hits

Shreve pitched 0.2 of an inning striking out 2..  He came in to  relieve Mitchell with men on 1st and 3rd and punched out Pedersen.. He was on his way to striking out Toles who  couldn’t hit Shreve with a paddle when Roberts sent Kendricks to  2nd base on a steal  attempt

Sanchez threw an ill-advised rocket trying to  cut down the runner that  drifted into  right center scoring the Mitchell inherited run

The only offense the Yanks could generate came via the long ball.. Castro and Judge both hit absolute Bombs, damn shame they  were solo  shots

Sabathia vs another kid wet behind the ears Julio Urias..

Yanks are now 5 out of the division, kiss that good bye with the pitching they have toeing the rubber sans Tanaka… They’re still 2 games out of the WC, but unless they  can get back to the win column and very soon, that WC might be circling the drain too

We’re back to  watching the kids get useful playing time, it would be nice if they  could at least keep  the season alive through the Boston  series, winning 4 of the next 5 would be the remedy…

  1. let’s hope some of these kids CashMan got from Cleveland are better then Heller, I know he’s young, but the poor kid gets his ass kicked almost every outing

    7 games, 4 innings, 8 hits, 3 runs, 3 BB’s, 3 K’s, 2 HR’s, 2.75 WHIP.. 2 stolen bases

    • Billy Ripken on MLB network showed that Torreyes was late covering 2nd on Sanchez’ throw. He has gone from the milk carton to utility man, where was Didi? Yanks may have some very good young position players but they need to get some pitchers that can actually get batters out!!! Those Dodger fans at the stadium were a lot more lively than the fans at Chavez ravine!!

  2. Yes I saw the YES guys even noted Torreyes was late.. I think Torreyes was more the problem trying to turn the DP they just missed early, I think on Gonzalez… Sanchez’s throw looked to be sailing far to Torreyes left, maybe getting there quicker makes a difference

Still Roberts sending Kendricks sped the game up on the rookie…Shreve had those lefties dead in the water…of course hind sight is 20/20

I guess DD is really banged up, he might not be in there today either….just a bad night all around…. Let’s get 4 of the next 5 lol

  5. Wally Backman sounds like a good baseball man.. He accepts metrics, but seems to be a little rougher around the edges then Northwestern Joe the bridge builder, so you get old school manger mechanics mixed in with school boy metrics that make common sense….

I hope the Yanks hire him, put him in the system, maybe he wants too replace Espada…..

  6. Bachman like most managers say the toughest job for a manager, is manage the bull pen…. If the bull pen is the toughest chore, why not add more value to the position…?

Start paying good pitchers to work out there, make the back of the game as awesome as the front…..Find someplace else to cut the budget.. Like get young help
