A CAtaSTROphe

Well  you have to  give the Yanks credit, they lead the league in Tough Losses, and Must Wins.. Last night’s 2-0 defeat had a healthy combination of both in it..

The Yanks concluded a good  7-3 winning home stand, unfortunately, it took  all  of those wins to creep back in to  the race..Even more unfortunate, the 3 losses have all come in the last 4 games..

So  they’ve lost  3 more games on their schedule, They remain 4 games out of first, and 2 games out of the 2nd WC, but with Detroit and Settle now in front of them, 2 teams who’s destiny  they  can’t control…

At 77-68 the Yanks would need to  go  10-7 in the last 17 games to  equal  their 2015 record (87-75).. It would take a 13-4 record to  win 90 games, a target number that may have secured some type of playoff scenario…

What made Wednesday’s late matinee loss so painful, the Bombers had gone toe to  toe with Kershaw who was masterful, for 5 innings, and 64-42 pitches..

Had there not been 2 rain delays adding up  to a tick over 50 minutes, Kershaw may have sliced the Yanks up  for 80 pitches, his said allotment, and at least 7 innings… That’s how clueless the offense was trying to hit this guy…

After the 2nd delay, about 45 minutes, Kershaw shocked the YES booth when he came back out to  continue his outing.. Kershaw had mowed down the 1st 12 batters, but Castro  reached on a E-5 to break  the stranglehold

Headless picked up  the Bomber’s 1st hit, a ball  that  found a hole between SS and 3rd base.. D-Gregorius gave Kershaw an out sac bunting the runners to  2nd and 3rd..

Kershaw is tough  enough without handing him a freebe, you already have a RISP, take 3 shots at scoring, not just 2, especially when both attempts are rookies…

There were 2nd guesses that Teixeira who  could possibly hit a fly ball should have hit for Refsynder or Romine, but personally I’d rather see both of these kids over Tex at the moment.. Maybe if it was 2009 or 2010, yes have at it..

Anyway Ref and the Romine Empire were punched out, so trying to get a run in from 90 feet away was stopped dead in it’s tracks

A really good looking  LH reliever Grant Dayton pitched the 6th  and punched out the side..The Yanks finally got another chance to break  the scoreless game in the 7th off Pedro Baez, maybe their best  chance to  score off LA’s pen, but they blew it, or maybe Psycho Joe blew it

With  1 out Castro and Headless singled, D-Gregorius couldn’t move the line and P-Joe sent Bubbles McCan’t in to hit for Ref… No problem for LA, Roberts brought in a better pitcher, a tough lefty Avilán,  who easily punched out McCan’t who had no  clue hitting against this lefty specialist

Roberts  totally out smarted Psycho Joe..Avilán, pitched a scoreless 8th giving up  a walk but punching out the DoughBoy to keep  the game 0-0

In Betances’ last 3.2 innings, 4 games, he’s given up 7 hits, 5 runs, 3 earned, but the Yanks had managed to  win the 3 games previous to last night’s total debacle

Castro blew what  should have been the first out of the 9th, but instead Seager was safe on an E-4… Obviously the brilliant Dodger rookie made it 19  for 19  when he stole 2nd base off Betances and  LA had a RISP

Turner deposited a double down the 3rd base line and it was 1-0 Dodgers..An F/7 moved Turner to  3rd and a botched throw by Betances from about 20 feet in front of home plate scored the 2nd run and that  was it for the Bombers

Kenny Jansen gave up  a 1 out single to Castro, but he managed to punch out the side to  close it out…

Pineda was shaky but he slithered through 4.0 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs,  2 BB’s,  5 K’s, his bug-a-boo  was  82-50 pitches, and after the rain P-Joe didn’t want Pineda to implode so  he yanked him, good call

Layne, Severino  and Clippard were brilliant over the next  3 innings allowing only 1 hit. It was the Bombers best Reliever Weapon that misfired after their best  2nd baseman showed you why the Cubs traded him

  1. Hey Yankee fans….I was at Yankee stadium yesterday for the 2-0 loss. I haven’t been following the Yankees that closely so I’m sure I’ve missed a lot…and you know which team is my team…BUT what I saw yesterday was a team that was so uninspired, so listless, so weak in hitting that there is no way they are going to the postseason…I mean it was pathethic, 14 strikeouts, many of them on weak checked swings. This team has no mojo….
Having said that, maybe someone could help me find someone to break Clay Buchholtz’s thumbs?

  2. Hey Bruce, too bad you picked the wrong day to visit the Mall In Rivera Avenue. What you’ve missed is a month & a half of inspired baseball brought about by the young kids addition to the team since the jettison of Chappy, Miller, Nova, Beltran & Son, & Arod.
Also, I should mention that yesterday they faced the best pitcher in baseball. So, any team is going to look listless against this guy. So cut us some slack .
Hopefully, we can break Buckholtz’s knuckles when we face him.

    • well, I figured they had to be better than they looked yesterday…but they looked just as bad hitting against the 4 or 5 relievers the Dodgers brought in as they did against Kershaw…I think they struck out three times in the 8th inning…
