If the criminals running the NYY box office truly had the reported paid attendance of 33,955 in last night’s 8-1 fiasco, then Brillo Levine and Lonn Burnt Trost, should give every one of those poor bastards their money back

Unless you were an Oriole fan, then you were singing in the rain…

Brillo  and Lonn’s inside the Mall bar business must  have set new records, because if there were 33K in those stands, then Tiny Tim is Otis Redding

MLB is on a schedule, every minute of it run by National TV money, so  while  the constant rain that hit the North East Coast was more suited for an NFL running game then playing baseball, the show went on…Add in nothing to  play  for after a long hard 159 game season  and you get the NY Yankees effort last night

The Yanks can blame the weather, which Humpty Teixeira made sure to  do, but Baltimore and Boston both played in the same downpour, and for some reason they  didn’t quit..

“I don’t blame them for staying home tonight,” Mark Teixeira said. “That was tough. … It was just ugly. There’s no other way to put it. We just didn’t play well.”

Stayed Home? They had 33.5 announced in the box score Texy, come on get with the program

Of course Baltimore  after almost being knocked out of the WC, has now won 3 in a row and is making a run at hosting the WC game, not just being in it..

They’re one game up  on the stumbling Canadians, who lost to Boston thanks to another magical night from Big Juicy, who  for some reason continues to make 40 yr’s old the new 25….

As for our poor sad sacks in the Bronx, it wasn’t a pretty sight, you had a feeling with PinTar Pineda on the bump, in a tornado, the other shoe was eventually gonna drop and it did in the 4th  and 5th  innings when the Buck O’s hung 8 runs on our heroes …

The tone for the Bomber’s offense was set in the 1st inning… Ellsbury did what he does best, got on base thanks to  a catchers interference call..

He then  shocked the world stealing 2nd base, but 2-3- and 4 in the line-up  couldn’t plate him..

A walk, and a caught stealing ended the 2nd, Gallardo  tossed a 1-2-3 third inning before the Yanks scored their only run of the night in the 4th on a walk, a single, and a sac fly  by Teixeira..

That  was your offense in this one..

Pineda had given up   a pair of 2 out runs in the 4th  to give Baltimore a 2-0 lead, Teixeira’s sac fly cut the deficit in half, but in the 5th Adam Jones hit a bomb into  the 2nd deck in left and Pineda quit on his stool  after the Jones Big Fly

Jones homered to left (403 feet). 3 1
Kim reached on infield single to shortstop. 3 1
Machado fouled out to third. 3 1
Trumbo homered to left (390 feet), Kim scored. 5 1
Pazos relieved Pineda. 5 1
Wieters struck out swinging. 5 1
Davis doubled to deep right. 5 1
Hardy walked. 5 1
Schoop homered to left (373 feet), Davis and Hardy scored. 8 1
Bourn grounded out to pitcher. 8 1
6 RUNS, 5 HITS, 0 ERRORS

Once Pineda was mercifully yanked at 5-1,  James Pazos one of  Girardi’ Gidrools made sure the only thing  left relevant was for nobody to get hurt in the dangerous working conditions

This and That

The Bombers put 10 men on base, 3 hits, 6 BB’s, and an error but

Yankees RISP: 0-7 (Headley 0-2, Sánchez 0-1, McCann 0-1, Williams 0-1, Gregorius 0-1, Torreyes 0-1)
Team LOB: 8

Spanning he last 7 games, The SanBino is mired  in a 1 for 27 slide, with 11 strike outs.. His only hit in that time frame  was  a 2 run HR,

His September slash is a very Trumbo-ish

.222 /.307 / .525 / .832.. 22 for 99 with 9 HR’s 2 doubles and 34 strike outs and 12 BB’s

That’s 34 K’s in 111 PA’s good for a 30.6 K%…If CashMan  doesn’t  get some protection in the batting order, this kid may never see a fast ball.. And with his M.O being the HR, he’s expanding the strike zone in an effort to make something happen… It’s 2013 Cano all over again

Pineda will finish the season with 174.2 innings pitched and 207 strikeouts, all new career-highs, but will also finish out with a career-high ERA of 4.82 (includes 94 earned runs and 52 homers over 28 starts.)

Pineda remains a Girardi Dog that  won’t hunt, which makes him a question mark heading into  the off season..

The Big Enigma will be in his walk year, and can  expect to be paid a tick  above his 2016 $4.3M  salary once his arbitration number is settled on.. Good chance barring  injury, Pineda will be in the Bombers 2017 rotation, he’s  cheap help, and if he can put together a quality season, might even be a deadline acquisition if the Yanks are once again sellers next July

With  a very anemic FA pitching class, CashMan might even get a few desperate GM’s wanting to  take a shot on PineTar, but as a rental with obvious warts it might be well  served to keep him around

Tanaka, Sabathia, and Pineda will be the only veteran pitchers under contract in 2017. With Mitchell, Cessa, and Severino getting a a chance to join the rotation or be minor league depth

Sense Joel Sherman has already started the off season heavy lifting for CashMan who  will have his work  cut out for him…

Severino  will  replace Tanaka today, so Luis has a chance to head into  the off season on a high note..

  2. Joel Sherman already has Cashman’s off season plotted out

    http://nypost.com/2016/09/30/t

This Rich Hill thing will be the flavor of the off season… Sherman has jumped right on the pile…

Here’s a thought, what team isn’t gonna make a play for Hill thinking he’s cheap help in an extremely anemic FA class?

Supply and demand will make Hill an over paid injury prone 37 yr old when March 2017 hits, and with Steinbrenner wanting to get under the Tax some team will easily outbid NY for his services…

Hill is low hanging fruit for the baseball rumor moguls…. I’m surprised Heyman hasn’t helped him pick out a Manhattan apartment yet…

If Cashman can actually flip Gardner’s 2 yr’s $25M contract and McCann’s 2 yr $34M deal, without paying a dime, they could possibly money whip Hill for 2 yr’s…

  3. 52 HRs over 28 starts!! Yikes!!!!
    Just can’t figure out Pinetop.
Evidently, he has a million dollar arm, but a 2 cent head. He needs a third pitch (change up) that he’ll use effectively & often. But I think his main problem is losing focus in that 2 cent head of his.
There are WAY too many 2 out big hits or HRs hit off this guy. I dunno. Maybe this is what he is. Maybe it’s time to walk away Renee…

  4. So, after last night, Cadillac has 38 HRs, 100 RBI’s, and is hitting .298. Some year.
How does that compare to the Doughboy???
    Just sayin…

    • mB…the only difference contract wise $3M per yr and 3 extra yr’s on the deal for a weapon… DoughBoy is like paying Gardner $151M for7 yr’s

      Worst contract in NYY history….

  7. man who’s in the umpiring crew the Showalter Brothers…? I bet one of the Cy Young candidates gets that 3rd call strike on the paint….

As a right fielder Austin is a good first baseman, Austin and the umps killed Severino that inning…

  8. I know the Yanks want to make this kid a starter but the minute he gets hit hard, his body language tells you his confidence is gone….. I think our boy is a two inning hero at the moment…2017, Clippard, Severino, Betances and Chapman…. Severino and Betances can be attack dogs bridging to Chappy….Fill in the other 3 with 2 lefties and a long man….

  10. Friday the weather was lousy and so were the Yanks. Davidoff had a good article about Pinheada. Montero suspended for steroids, his career has gone into the toilet. Pinheada pitches the Yanks into the toilet. Yanks had a very nice comeback, perhaps inspired by Psycho Joes pre game talk telling everyone to get better and ready for competition. Severino is headed down the Joba path, taking a great reliever trying to make him a starter and destroying his career. Severino is a reliever, period. Tyler Austin has gotten some big hits, makes you wonder why he was totally buried on the bench for almost 2 weeks. More Yankee genius in developing youngsters. Sunday is the end of the line for the Yanks this year, its going to be very boring without time. Time for me to get on the Rangers and Mets bandwagon.

    • Great read Big D

      from my vantage point

the Yanks always go to journeyman or veterans when the shit hits the fan, as you point out, it’s not the way to make your players better…Part of that is the NYY way of doing business, ever second of their existence needs to be about winning, because winning and a prideful Brand convert easily into money.

In a way Hal is like George, for all we loved about him, one of GMS weaknesses was not trusting the young players…

It’s to the young players benefit that Hal is more concerned with money then GMS

Psycho Joe may be forced to play all young players, especially if Steinbrenner wants to get under the cap.. Him not spending in FA and just using his farm system, will off set the A-Rod $20M, Sabathia $25M, Ellsbury $21M, Tanaka $23M, McCann $17M

The only one of those contracts that isn’t a back breaker is Tanaka.. CC has been much better, but if they could dump that $25M in 201u7, they’d do it…

Any smart business in their position would be projecting to 2018, that’s when the market will be hopefully flooded with young quality FA… If Hal can re-set the Tax clock we might get a few new shiny toys to add to the hopeful core
