A Texas No Step

with 5 comments

Somewhere inside Toronto Canada’s Rogers Centre a sign read “We’d rather take a punch in May, then get knocked out in October”

I guess that  says it all as a supposedly banged up Toronto team made Texas one of their ex’s, after a 7-6 extra inning win that  capped off a surprising 3 game sweep..

Ironically, Rougned Odor the winner in May’s bench  clearing brawl, was the loser last night as his errant throw on a potential 6-4-3 inning ending DP in the 10th inning went off line..

Odor’s throw, pivot,  and release was as quick as the right hand that put Bautista on Queer Street, it just wasn’t as accurate. The  disobedient throw was mishandled by Mitch Moreland, unfortunately the gaffe allowed Josh Donaldson to  scamper home with the winning run

The Rangers were the top  seed in the AL, but for the 2nd year in row Canada sent them packing.. Last year the humiliation came in the form of a Bautista bat flip, this year  they  surgically removed a 5 month  thorn when Odor threw Texas’ season away..

The Blue Jays will play Game 1 of the ALCS on Friday night in Boston or Cleveland (time TBD). The ALCS will be broadcast on TBS, as well as Sportsnet and RDS (in French) in Canada.

For a while it looked like Odor might will his Rangers to at least a Canadian Thanksgiving Day  game 4 today, but it wasn’t in the cards.

Odor’s night came to an end in devastating fashion, but he earlier hit a two-run homer and scored a pair of runs. Andrus also went deep for Texas and Moreland added two RBIs with a go-ahead double in the sixth inning. Rangers right-hander Colby Lewis did not receive a decision after he allowed five runs on five hits over two-plus innings. The loss went to Matt Bush, who tossed two scoreless innings before the decisive 10th.

A deceiving stat that Win Loss stuff, Lewis was abysmal, while Bush was nothing short of brilliant pitching 2 shut down innings before Bannister tried to  squeeze a third frame out of him

Banister, meanwhile, did not go with his closer, Sam Dyson, instead using Bush for three innings, even though he threw more pitches, 42, than he ever had in his career. Bush allowed a leadoff double to Donaldson in the decisive 10th inning. Banister stayed with Bush, and Toronto wound up winning.

I don’t know if the Texas fanbase will channel the vitriol that  smothered Buck Showalter’s decision to not use Zack Britton, Bush  had five 2 inning appearances this season, none since August  30th, and no  3 inning outings..

Not knowing much  about Bush or the Rangers reliever patterns, I can’t answer whether Bush  was in hazardous waters trying to  keep  the Texas season alive, his final line was 2.2 innings, 1 hit, 1 run, 1 BB, 5 K’s, 42 pitches

Congrats to  the Rangers, they had a successful  regular season, but just  couldn’t get untracked in this ALDS

“That game-ending play, that’s not a normal big league type of ending to a game,” Toronto manager John Gibbons said. “That’s kind of rare. But a lot of times when things are going your way, that’s the kind of thing that happens.”

Outside of John gibbons who  we like, Canada can eat shit today, Happy Thanksgiving Chumps…

Schedule for the Boston Cleveland game.. I can’t imagine a sweep not with Tomlin on the bump, although he has better splits vs LHP, so Ortiz despite good slugging numbers off him is 3 for 17

their best hitter vs Tomlin, Bradley, is in a bad slump….

    Make America Great, Cleveland…..
