A Giant Disappointment in Frisco..Dodging A Bullet in LA

with 5 comments

Going into  the 9th inning of the San Francisco vs Chicago game, with a 5-2 Giants lead, it looked like we would still have a full afternoon and  evening of baseball coming our way  this Thursday..

Unfortunately a shoddy Giants bull pen imploded, the Cubs  plated 4 runs, and the loss left us with  just 1 game 5, DC vs LA..

Ironically both NL games yesterday tallied a 6-5 score, the Dodgers trying to avoid elimination went with their Franchise Clayton Kershaw on short rest.. After a 27 pitch  1st inning, Kershaw got in rhythm, got his pitch  count back on track, and held onto a 5-2 lead after 6 innings

With  89 pitches under his belt, pitching on short rest in a season where he was on  the DL with back issues, going out for the 7th  was a gutsy but ill-advised thing to  do, and it almost cost LA their season

I thought a lead off single would end his night, but Kershaw remained engaged to get the next 2 batters and was one out away  from being the 2016 version of Madison Bumgarner..

Trea Turner started the 2 out rally that  eventually tied the game 5-5  in the 7th

3 RUNS, 3 HITS, 0 ERRORS

Trea Turner started it, Daniel Murphy who Mike Francesa said would never be a “star” finished it… Poor Poor  Mike

I know Correa, Bogaerts, and Lindor get all  the ink at SS, but they might have some stiff competition invading their 3 Amigo’s fraternity with the emergence of Trea Turner, who isn’t even playing the position yet!!

“He went way before we picked in the draft, but we identified him early on,” Rizzo said of Turner. “Our amateur scouts knew him and loved him and we had followed him in his early pro career. We scouted him.”

No worries, they creatively made Turner the PTBNL in a deal with San Diego that at the moment looks like a  Bonny and Clyde bank heist.. Turner and yesterday’s starter Joe Ross who  the Yanks targeted in a Chapman / Miller  trade was also in the trade

The Nats gave up Steven Souza who  went to Tampa, Will Myers went to San Diego, and Turner and Ross to  the DC Nats

Turner was being blocked this season  by  Espinosa  a terrific defensive shortstop, but that  won’t last much more then  this season, although Espinosa has 2 yr’s before he’s a free agent, and he’s dirt cheap

The Dodgers pen stopped the bleeding, and an 8th inning two  out HBP, a pinch hit single and who  else but Chase Utley drove home the go  ahead run 6-5

Jansen who  smelled up  the place in a hold situation  the day before, was once again un-hittable blowing away  the Nats to set up  Game 5 on Thursday

As for the Giants, they got a Bumgarner performance from Matt Moore the former Ray, 8 innings, 2 hits, 2 runs, but 5 relievers gidrool’d the 9th inning and the Cubs will move on to face either DC or LA

Law relieved Moore. 2 5
Bryant singled to left center. 2 5
López relieved Law. 2 5
Rizzo walked, Bryant to second. 2 5
Romo relieved López. 2 5
Zobrist doubled to deep right, Bryant scored, Rizzo to third. 3 5
Coghlan hit for Russell. 3 5
Smith relieved Romo. 3 5
Contreras hit for Coghlan. 3 5
Contreras singled to center, Rizzo and Zobrist scored. 5 5
Heyward bunted into fielder’s choice to pitcher, Contreras out at second, Heyward to second on throwing error by shortstop Crawford. 5 5
Strickland relieved Smith. 5 5
Hernández in left field. 5 5
Báez singled to center, Heyward scored. 6 5
Ross grounded into double play, second to shortstop to first, Báez out at second. 6 5
4 RUNS, 4 HITS, 1 ERRORS

Chappy closed it out with  3 punch outs

  1. Here’s the Scottsdale Scorpions roster with Yankee prospects: position players: Bird, Gleyber Torres, Miguel Andujar,
and Wade, who is listed as an OFer so they’re grooming him to be a utility player, which will give him more value either as a MLB player or trade bait..

Pitchers: Brody Koerner, J.P. Feyereisen, James Kaprielian, Dillon Tate

  3. It’s totally insane to blame Bochy over taking Moore out 120 pitches 8 innings
    Coming off TJ

This is on the GM teflon Sabean
Who should have fixed the yr long problem
This metric analytics BS that relievers aren’t valuable and unpredictable is off base

Saying relief pitching is a crap shoot is BS and an excuse when a pen falters

Every position is a crap shoot sans Trout
