Tribe Scalps Canada, Cubs Claw LA

with 5 comments

Saturday was a great day of Playoff Baseball with the Indians crawling past Canada 2-1 in the day game, and Chicago holding the better hand at crunch  time to  defeat Gambling Dave Roberts and his LA Dodgers 8-4  in the nightcap

Both  games were pins and needles for all  4 clubs, the Indians junk throwing  Josh Tomlin managed to garble his game plan just  enough  to keep  the devastating Canadian offense off balance for 5.2 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, 2 BB’s, 6 K’s…

That  effort was good enough to out pitch 20 game winner JA Happ, 5 innings, 4 hits , 2 runs, 1 BB, 4 K’s, 1 HR..

All of the scoring came in the 2nd and 3rd innings, with  the Indians striking first on a Carlos Santana HR 1-0..Tomlin couldn’t deliver a shut down  top of the 3rd and a single and a double tied the game at  1-1

The Indians took back the lead in the bottom of the 3rd on a walk, a fielders choice that  allowed the fleet footed Davis to now occupy the base paths.. A stolen base, a wild pitch, and a  clutch  single by Frankie Lindor gave the Tribe a 2-1 lead..

Tomlin shut down the Canadians for the next  8 outs until a 2 out walk to Joey Bats in the 6th..Shaw came in to get Tulowitzki on a 1-3 putout and it was Miller Time

The Bombers Andrew Miller has become the Sensation of this 2016 Playoffs up  to  this point.. Miller not only has become a household name, he’s made the skillful Tito Francona look smarter then a henhouse Rooster …

The Indians have not lost this postseason, winning five straight. The common thread is Miller, who has dominated. He pitched the seventh and eighth Saturday, striking out five. All five outs he recorded Friday came on strikeouts. No pitcher in postseason history had struck out at least five batters on consecutive days.

Dating back to Game 3 of the ALDS against the Boston, and through the first out of the eighth inning Saturday, Miller recorded 10 outs via strikeout and struck out seven batters in a row.

So basically what Miller has done in the Boston and Canada series is pitch in 4 outings..

Three of them for 2 innings, and on Friday night he tossed 1.2 innings for a total  of

28 batters faced, 7.2 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 2 BB’s, 17 K’s, 0 ground outs, 6 fly ball outs

Another under the radar job by closer Cody Allen who punched out Encarnacion, Bautista, and induced an innocuous F/8 on Tulowitzki to  end it

In the night cap the Cubs jumped on Maeda, but Roberts gave  them  some help by inserting Kendrick in LF, and it cost the Dodgers in the 1st inning when he misplayed an F/7 into  an RBI double, 1-0 Cubs…

Jon Lester, unlike David Price was his awesome self in the playoffs, he may have been yanked too  soon, Maddon pulled him after 6 innings, 4 hits, 1 run, 77-47 pitches.. I don’t know anything about the Cubs,  but if I’m Lester, I’m pissed off

Anyway Maddon mixed and matched his way through the 7th, then he mixed and matched his way into handing his bases loaded mess to Chappy in the 8th.. Chappy punched out Seager and Puig, but lost Gonzalez who  dropped a 2 run RBI single to  CF to  tie it…

Roberts went to Blanton who has been a respected earner in his pen but he was immediately in trouble after Zobrist led off the 8th with a double

A ground out, an intentional walk, a big  Baez F/9, another intentional  walk loaded the bases and brought up now back up  catcher Montero  to PH for Chappy..

Blanton fed Montero  three  85 MPH slider’s, the last one stayed in the middle of the plate and a North Side  Hero  was Born

All  the Cub Dodger intel is in the North side Hero link..

Here’s  the Indian / Canada recap

  1. Gleyber Torres was the only NYY prospect playing in the Scorpions game yesterday.. He went 0-4.

Boston got big outings from their now top rated pitching prospect Kopech, and another top rated kid Ball.. Moncada picked up 2 hits for the Saguaros

  3. I’m wondering where Kenley Jansen was last night? If Kershaw is starting today, he sure could have relieved Blanton and went for a 4 out save.. Roberts was confident and he was right they could score off of Rondon

The over use in game 5 was a residual affect apparently… Gotta have more then 1 weapon ready to go in the playoffs……

not sure why the 12 best pitchers aren’t on the playoff roster, you mean starters are prima donnas to the point where they can’t come in for 1 out? Even if they’re starting on say Monday?

A throw day so to speak….I guess Alex Wood was his only other starting RH pitcher…. Urias and Hill were hood ornaments?? Or they would have brought up Contreras, the Boogey man….

If I need a big K, I tell Tanaka to get his ass to the pen and be ready to get an out…..He’s my best pitcher available…. 1 out…
