Playoff Baseball

The Indians continued on a path to redemption by winning their 6th playoff game in a row 4-2 over a whining Canadian squad who is now 1 game away  from elimination!!

There wasn’t much fanfare for Tito Francona’s Central Division winning Tribe coming into the ALDS… “Let’s be Honest”  they  were a mere stepping stone, more of an annoyance for the Mighty Boston Red Sox..

That worm turned quickly and before the Red Sox could wake up  from their David Ortiz Retirement Tour hangover, the Indians had taken two  1 run games thanks to  their amazing bull pen, and a 6-0 shutout by their Ace Cory Kluber.. Tito’s Tribe out scored Boston  15 to  7 in the 3 games

After 3 games vs the juggernaut Canadian offense the Indians have won 3 in a row in this ALCS..

The Cleveland pitching staff has allowed 3 runs in 27 innings, they shut out Canada 2-0 in game 1, upset them  2-1 in game two, and last night the Indians exploded for 4 runs to  grab a commanding 3-0 lead with their  4-2 Win…

Indian Pitching vs Toronto

1.00 ERA, 3 wins, 0 losses, 3 saves, 27 innings, 17 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned, 7 BB’s, 34 K’s  0.889 WHIP

5 of the  9 pitchers Tito has used have a 0.00 ERA,

Miller 5 innings, Shaw 2 innings, Allen 3.2 innings, 10.2 Scoreless innings

Cody Allen has yet to  give up  a hit and has a sick 0.237 WHIP

Kluber 6 innings, 0 runs

Indian pitching vs Boston

2.33 ERA, 3 wins 0 losses, 2 Saves,  27 innings, 21 hits  7 runs  7 earned, 8 BB’s, 31 K’s  1.074  WHIP

Miller 4 innings, 2 hits, 2 BB’s,  7 K’s, 0.00 ERA

Allen, 3 innings, 4 hits, 2 BB’s, 5 K’s, 0.00 ERA

Kluber 7 innings, 0  runs

Mikey 2 Chins  did some heavy lifting on Bubba McCann’s tenure as a Yankee entitled  The Erstwhile Catcher, this concept is starting to  worry me a bit..

The immediate reaction to the SanBino’s maiden voyage in Stripes was analgesic,  the pain was subsiding, finally the Bombers first  block in their next core had been delivered.. It was now safe to jettison Brian McCann, who  despite decent numbers for a catcher was expendable, we’re sick of him under performing that 5 yr $85M contract?

League Average for Catchers:  .242/.310/.391 (87 wRC+) in 2016.

McCann’s numbers: .242 / .335 / .413 (103 wRC+) in 2016

I thought this one part of 2 Chins article to be interesting

Gary Tuck. Tuck, a longtime catching guru, was New York’s bullpen coach from 2014-15 and McCann credited him with improving his throwing. “Gary Tuck. He’s changed the way I catch and throw,” said McCann two years ago. “We work on it every day together. I’m getting the ball out quick. No wasted movement … I’ve gotten better as the season’s gone on.”

As we can  see the two  seasons Tuck was in charge, McCann’s caught stealing rate was terrific..  Tuck was let go by CashMan over a disagreement in the use of  analytics, apparently Tuck and guys like Kevin Long who  fixed Daniel Murphy, and Grandson for a while, weren’t playing well  with CashMan’s numbers crunchers

(As a foot note, I couldn’t find any published reports that Tuck left because of a disagreement with the Bombers  baseball OPs department, so take Mikey 2 Chins point of view with a grain or 2 of salt)..

Regardless of who,  where, or why, McCann is what he is at  the moment, an expensive back up  catcher who’s skills are diminishing..

That said, after watching Luis Severino tank  in 2016, this unfortunate  impediment after taking the league by storm in 11 starts in 2015, who’s to  say Gary Sanchez can’t drive his new found stardom down  that same rocky road once the league gets a book on him?

It’s not like CashMan has a David Ortiz, Hanley Ramirez or E-Encarnacion, batting  behind Sanchez protecting him.. In fact the Yanks have NoBody protecting Sanchez in 2017, down the stretch in 2016 Psycho Joe was reduced to using D-Gregorius, Castro, and Teixeira..

We would all like to  see McCann out of here, but his contact is debilitating to  a smaller market, and  with Hal  already eating FS1 broadcaster Alex Rodriguez’s $20M in 2017, it’s not likely McCann is traded unless the deal  favors the NYY..

Yanks might eat  money, but like the Rangers who  didn’t have to pay  a penny of Beltran’s remaining contract, the team that  wants McCann will have to part with  some highly regarded young players

Worse case scenario, McCann is a veteran voice in the clubhouse, he possibly could regain some of the luster he’s lost since joining the Bombers in 2014, in the process the Yanks gain, his value increases, and his contract peels off some of the gaudy numbers as the days go by

The one disadvantage would be CashMan trading Romine who  seems to be a really good back up…

  2. I’m all for being a bit sensitive over Native American issues, much more so then Black Lives Matter, especially since the first slaves in this New World were European White Trash inhabitants sent here to free the old world of their scum….

All lives matter, it’s more of a class issue then a color thing……..Now the Cleveland Indians have been playing baseball in toronto since the Jays inception, now all of a sudden an Canadia Indian tribe is upset over the Indians logo?

Is this more racial incentive or are we pulling out every stop in an effort to stop the Cleveland momentum??
