The Curse Busters

with 6 comments

Chad Vanilla Jennings from LoHud, we’ve also  seen him on occasion on the YES Hot Stove Shows, is leaving his  NYY post and joining the Boston Globe..

Jennings will be covering the Red Sox, he’s the 2nd LoHud writer to bolt the Yanks for Boston in the last 7 / 8 years..

The infamous Pete Abraham has been working for the Globe since  2009 after spending nearly 10 years in New York covering the Mets and Yankees

Happy trails Chad, a good professional  writer who  gave you the facts, not much if any opinion… He’s not gonna make the Funhouse top 100 or even top  500 list, but seemed like a good man in the fox hole just  doing his job…Safe Travels V

The Curse Busters

The Cubs evened up  the Series 5-1 thanks to  a very productive start from  Jake Arrieta, who  for the life of me I just  don’t get, and the buzz that  brought life back into  this Fall Classic Kyle Schwarber

“Really young, smart kid, and he’s just always got a big smile on his face,” Schwarber said after collecting two more hits and his first two RBIs in Game 2 of a World Series he wasn’t supposed to play in. “He’s living life to his fullest, even though he’s got something to overcome.”

Schwarber apparently BFF’d a young fan fighting an insidious disease, the two bonded, and have inspired each other to out work  whatever chore stands in their way

Campbell Faulkner, a fourth-grader from suburban Phoenix with a rare form of mitochondrial disease who befriended Schwarber in Spring Training and stayed in touch via email all summer. The two reconnected in person earlier this week during Schwarber’s crash course in the Arizona Fall League.

Schwarber has been nothing short of brilliant in the two games he’s participated in as a DH.. After striking out in the 1st inning, Schwarber knocked in the 2nd Cub run in the 3rd with  a single, and their 4th  run in the 5th  with  another RBI  knock to  centerfield

He walked against Danny Salazar in the 6th, and was punched out for the 2nd time in the 8th inning..

Schwarber just  competing is a feat on it’s own, being productive in the 5 hole for 2 games is remarkable

7 AB, 1 Run, 3 Hits, 1 2B,  2 RBI,  2 BB, 4 K’s /

Jake Arrieta last year’s MLB boogyman has had an up and down  season?

I guess when  you’re coming off a Cy Young campaign, a 1.77 ERA, 0.86 WHIP in 2015, then morph into a 3.10 ERA / 1.08 WHIP you’ve taken a step backwards?

Arrieta who never pitched below a 4.66 ERA and as high as a 7.23 for 3 and a half years in Baltimore has been reborn on Chicago over his 3 year  stay on  the North Side

What baffles me is Arrieta’s mechanics look like a train wreck in motion but somehow he gets it done, last night 5.2 innings, 2 hits, 1 run, 3 BB’s, 6 K’s, 98-55 pitches

Arrieta had a no hitter brewing for 5.1 innings until Kipnis smacked a double in the 6th inning, Lindor grounded out and Napoli knocked in the only Cleveland run with a 2 out Knock that ended Arrieta’s night

Montgomery 2 innings, and Chapman 1.1 innings closed out the 4 run lead..

The Indians fell behind early with Trevor Bauer looking very pedestrian compared to what the Cubs had seen in game 1 with Das Kluber, Miller, and Allen throwing wiffle-balls at the Cub offense..

Bauer just  had no  way  to  close out AB’s, with a curve ball  that looked like it was just  rolling up  to  the plate, his best  bet  was trying to pitch to  soft contact..

Bauer 3.2 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs, 2 BB’s, 2 K’s, 87-53 pitches

McAllister 0.2 innings, 1 hit, 2 runs, 1 BB, 2 K’s and Shaw 0.2 innings, 1 hit, 1 run, 2 BB’s 2 K’s allowed 3 tack on runs

Salazar, Manship, Otero, and Clevenger finished out the last 4 innings unscathed

Looking forward to Schwarber and Santana playing the out field, and both pitchers batting.. #NLbaseballYawn

  1. The best reliever in baseball seals the deal, this couldn’t be a bigger indictment on Psycho JoeBot’s lack of managerial skills

“I know when Chapman came back to us for the Yankees this year, Dellin and I were kind of up in the air about what order we would pitch,’’ Miller said. “And in some instances it created a mess because we were both warming up next to each other.

“I think all managers, Joe, Tito [Terry Francona], I’ve been lucky to have some that really handle the bullpen well. But you hate to have two guys warming up at the same time. It seems wasteful in a sense.’’
