Captain Gardner’s Plank Armor?

with 8 comments

Captain Gardner Gold Glove Nominee

We’re all hoping Captain Gardner grabs this GG Award, he’s 1 of 3 finalist for Left Field..

Cody Rasmus, and the Captain’s nemesis Alex Gordon are also in the mix… Where this pans out for the Yanks and CashMan, Gardner will hang another pelt on his belt, he’ll cop some free publicity, and if Jason No Hit Heyward can  get $184M for mostly his SaberMetric Defensive prowess, then Gardner is a steal  at 2yr’s $26M….

If Gardner is indeed walking the plank as a NY Yankee over the winter, this GG armor, along with his 2015 All Star cameo can only help his selling points..?

No Hit Heyward: .230 .306 .325 .631 / 7 HR’s, 49 RBI’s

Captain Gardner: .261 .351 .362 .713 / 7 HR’s, 41 RBI’s

Re: No Hit Heyward, Here’s what  you get for 8 yr’s $184M

8 years/$184M (2016-23)
signed by Chicago Cubs as a free agent 12/15/15

$20M signing bonus (paid in four $5M installments, each April 1, 2024-27)

16:$15M, 17:$21.5M, 18:$21.5M, 19:$20M, 20:$21M, 21:$21M, 22:$22M, 23:$22M

deferrals reduce contract’s present day value to $177,633,616 (MLB calculation) or $179,885,452 (MLBPA calculation)

Heyward may opt out of contract after 2018 season or after 2019 season with 550 plate appearances in 2019

full no-trade protection for 2016-18, may block deals to 12 clubs in 2019-20, may block all deals after 2020 season as 10-and-5 player

So there you have it…The fact Gardner can’t steal bases, wields a wet newspaper bat, has   the same baseball instincts as the Bank of America llama, and will be 34 in August of 2017 shouldn’t demoralize any  GM needing an All Star Gold Glove, 2 position player on a 2 yr deal!!

We’ll  see the DonB air kissing Hillary before we see CashMan and his robot manager go into  the 2017 season  with  an unproven at  triple A rookie starting in Left, so  unless some team blows Cashman  away, Captain Gardner isn’t going anywhere until possibly the July 2017 deadline?

In a real  good line-up Gardner has two decent years left at  33 yr’s old.. If you’re batting him 9th in a trendy   analytics  line-up where a guy like Santana, or Adam Jones, Bautista, etc are leading off, that might work

It turned Jackie Bradley jr into  a good hitter batting 9th, he didn’t slump until Farrell got greedy  and moved him up in the order…That 9 hole was a magic spot for Red Sox hitters this year

As for the Yanks, Cashman needs Clint Frazier to be his Left fielder for the next 6 years, or Frazier is a feature prospect in a blockbuster type trade, anything less will be a failure considering Andrew Miller was the bait…

If Gardner gets traded, JoeBot’s memory circuits could possibly get a bit scrambled. He’d be left with all unproven Punch  and Judy commodities like Hicks, Cave, Williams, and Refsynder

Frazier represents sort of a slugger type along with Judge, so that case scenario needs to happen ASAP.. Gardner could also go in a trade and have a youngish  veteran come back as Out field depth insurance, sort of how they proceeded in the Chapman deal, bringing in Warren ?

Scorpions Win!! They Win the Damn Game!

Moncada Who????

Infielder Gleyber Torres, the No. 2-ranked prospect in the Yankees organization and MLB Pipeline’s No. 17 prospect in all of baseball, kept his smoldering season going with a three-run home run in a five-run third inning that helped the visiting Scorpions to a 9-7 victory over the Salt River Rafters at Salt River Fields.

Man this Torres kid is something else, my bad for wanting Elo Jimenez instead.. This kid is making not getting MonKada a blessing in disguise

Greg Bird, coming back from shoulder surgery that robbed him of the 2016 season, served as the Scorpions’ designated hitter and went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer to right field in the top of the seventh inning that gave Scottsdale the lead for good.

“I’m glad to be playing,” Bird said. “If anything, I have something to prove too.”

And Andujar, a third baseman who ranks No. 7 in the Yankees’ system, was 1-for-3 and is batting .394 with an OPS of .947.

“It’s exciting to be able to contribute, and that’s what we’re here for,” Torres said. “We got the win and the three of us were able to contribute. That makes it fun and exciting for everybody.”

Good day in Arizona for the Bombers future

    • Zobrist is the proto-type Swiss army knife.. CashMan is pining to develop a player like him…. The Mets went after him hard but he was smart enough to go to Chicago where they were stacking the deck…. It’s a bonanza for MLB and the Cubs

      4 years/$56M (2016-19) and he’s no spring chicken, Zobrist will be 36 yr’s old in May 2017….

No Scwarber tonight in Left Field…. Theo doesn’t want to mess up the golden goose… Boston is all ready to trade MonKada and Kopech to Chicago for Schwarber to replace Grand Papi

Epstein has a Gold mine with this kid if he trades him this winter to an AL team…#SellHigh ?
