Future Shock

The Yanks have two  young players that are creating a buzz in the Arizona Fall League, 3rd baseman Miggy Andujar, and SS Gleyber Torres...

Torres came to  the Yanks in the Chapman deal, and comes highly touted.. Andujar is a pleasant surprise, I’d have to  say on the Greg Bird level of excitement…

We started to hear about Andujar when he was at high-A Tampa and he didn’t disappoint when he got to Trenton… At the moment he’s having a tremendous AFL campaign

Miggy’s name came up at the GM meetings as a potential prospect in a Trade scenario, so CashMan will  go into  the Winter Hot Stove season with a pocket full of dynamite Re: prospect currency..

The hope here is he doesn’t mess around with Torres, Andujar, Bird, Frazier, Mateo, Rutherford, Mitchell, Severino, Kaprelian, Sheffield, Tate, Sanchez, Austin, or Judge..

It seems fashionable to  throw Mateo into any trade scenario for a cost controlled starter, but at the moment, the Yanks would be selling low-ish on their former top Prospect.. The drop in offense, and the disciplinary issues he’s had have dropped his value

Not sure why the Yanks didn’t send him to the AFL, if they  have thoughts about trading him, that  could have helped? One of Mateo’s issues was insubordination, showing that  was an isolated incident by  playing the game we’ve seen from him at Spring Training may have reinstated his value ?

After a big day on August  3rd

Yankees SS/2B Jorge Mateo, Class A Advanced Tampa: 3-for-5, HR, RBI, R — No longer the Yankees’ top prospect (or even the most prominent member of Tampa’s middle infield after last month’s addition of Gleyber Torres), Mateo sent a reminder Wednesday why he’s still well-regarded in a suddenly crowded farm system. Mateo’s three hits from the top of the Tampa lineup were the most he’s had since his return July 20 from a two-week suspension for violating an undisclosed team rule, and his homer was his seventh of the season. The Yankees’ No. 3 prospect owns a .259/.311/.393 line with 26 extra-base hits and 29 steals in 88 games in the Florida State League this year. Torres’ arrival from the Cubs in the Aroldis Chapman deal led to questions about who would handle shortstop duties for the Yankees’ Class A Advanced affiliate. For now, Mateo has been the one to move over to second, but he’s still getting reps at short during Torres’ days off or at DH. Either way, Tampa now has the Minors’ second-most talented middle infield behind only Dansby Swanson and Ozzie Albies at Double-A Mississippi.

We should get a much better picture of what  the Yanks really intend to do in 2017.. Will Mateo be included in a blockbuster deal? Or will CashMan let his highly touted Farm System sort itself out

Something has to  give with D-Gregorius looking like a Core piece, and Castro making the need for a 2nd baseman no longer a desperate search..Keeping  Headley around will  give guys like Andujar and Torres a chance to grab some Double and Triple A reps in 2017

The Bombers 3rd base future could be Castro, Andujar, or Torres?

CashMan should go  hot and heavy trying to trade Ellsbury in a bad contract for bad contract swap just  to get him out of here.. Move Gardner to CF and open up  the corners, in 2 years Mateo  could be the Yanks Center fielder with Rutherford in hot pursuit

Yes We McCann

Yesterday  we wondered if the Yanks would entertain eating portions of McCann’s contract if the return was a favorable prospect package

Today  we find out yes they  will be willing to take back some McCann money,

1:50pm: Brian McCann’s name has predictably surfaced in trade rumors this winter, following Gary Sanchez’s breakout in New York, and Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports provides the latest update, tweeting that the Yankees are willing to eat as much as $17MM of the remaining $34MM on McCann’s contract but want “multiple top young players in return.”

but the price coming back to NY is a Clint Frazier type return!!

Again CashMan is playing hardball, because he can, McCann  could be a useful piece to  a contender, and he becomes even more useful if he’s only making $8.5M per year instead of $17M over the next 2 yr’s

At 5:30 yesterday Marchand up-dated the rumor

There is a feeling within the Yankees organization that they shouldn’t eat any of the two years and $34M guaranteed remaining on Brian McCann’s contract. One MLB official with knowledges of the Yankees thinking went as far as to say the Yankees won’t be sending along any money in any McCann deal. We’ll see. This is just another factor in the McCann trade talks with the biggest being he has a full no-trade clause. There is a belief among some close to McCann that he would approve a deal because he doesn’t want to be relegated to a platoon DH and once-a-week catcher. Gary Sanchez is now the Yankees’ starting catcher.

  1. Well glad Morales is signed, the media would have had him in every Bomber trade, he got what $33M, that’s McCann money over 3 yr’s

wonder if that knocks them out of the Encarnacion sweepstakes

Mikey 2 Chins thinks McCann is gone, but Cashman wanting a team’s first born might be a sticking point.. McCann as a part time catcher full time DH is almost intriguing, but he’d have to really put up some numbers, like 30 HR’s

  2. Referencing Michael Corleone after the bloodbath during the Crisioning of Connie & Carlo’s son, when he told Carlo that Cuneo, Stratzi, Tattaglia, & Barzini were all dead.
I want The Doughboy, Brett The Face, & Headless outta here. Let Clemenza & Rocco take them for a ride on the Causeway never to return again. Eat some money & get back some prospects!
    Ya hear that CashMan???
Don’t make me have to get the Don B involved! You have a lovely family, it would be a shame if something should befall them….
