Give Him A Chance

with 7 comments

We’ve mostly heard about Severino, Mitchell, Green, Cessa, Kaprelian, Sheffield, and Tate as Bomber pitching prospects either already here, close to the show, or a few years away.

Chance Adams, 23 yr’s old,  a young man who thrived at Single and double  A this season has been hiding in plain sight…! Had it not been for an innings restriction that  shut him down just before the playoffs started for Trenton, he may have gotten more press…

Then again how much press does a 2015  fifth round  hard-throwing reliever out of  Dallas Baptist University really get?

Not much, but with  a 4 pitch  arsenal in tow, the Bomber braintrust decided he might be potential starter  material, and so  far, so  good

Adams has a clean, simple delivery that he repeats with ease. It’s what convinced Yankees minor league pitching coordinator Danny Borrell  and before him, Yankees domestic amateur scouting director Damon Oppenheimer, that Adams could be even better as a starter than he was out of the bullpen.

Adams isn’t a freak like Boston’s Michael Kopech (101 MPH) he’s a pitcher who  varies speed, has solid command, and a wipe out slider that’s probably his bread and butter..

“Wow,” Cashman said. “If he did again what he did last year, somebody who’s doing what he did last year is (reaching the majors) quick. What he did obviously in Trenton, I pulled the plug on him and took him out of the playoffs just because of the innings and stuff. But next year, if he just dominates in Triple-A and if he’s the best guy when we need a guy, who knows. He’s got the next step to go. We’ll see. But he’s exciting.”

If you pop  the Chance Adams link above, you come to his baseball page, it has video, and game highlights, stats, etc..

A Previous Adams Look See

Adams could be a Minor League Hero, so we have to fly the red flags at half mast..As a college career reliever, he’s obviously green as a starter, despite his tremendous leap  through 2 leagues in  2016..

If he can show something in Spring Training, and dominate at SWB in 2017, we can start  to get excited, unless we’re  already excited, the only thing we really own in this world lives between our ears, it’s ok to invest in it’s future..

For now CashMan has yet another prospect stashed away in his new “war chest”  with  plenty of buzz.. Let’s hope Adams gets a chance to don the Stripes, you can never have enough Home Grown Pitching

“He’s one of our better pitching prospects, frankly,” Cashman said.

Adams had perhaps the best season of any starting pitcher in the Yankees’ organization in 2016. After going 5-0 with a 2.65 ERA in 12 starts at High-A Tampa, Adams was bumped to Double-A Trenton, where he was just as dominant, posting a 2.07 ERA and going 8-1 in 13 games (12 starts).

Baseball America named Adams to its 2016 minor league all-star team and said he was the No. 18 best prospect in the Florida State League.

It wasn’t a fluke, Yankees minor league pitching coordinator Danny Borrell said.

“We certainly see him as a starting pitcher in the major leagues,” Borrell said. “Four pitches. He can throw them for strikes. He maintains velocity. Those are ingredients we think can be successful in New York.”

At The Moment

McCann’s staus hasn’t changed, Yanks will maybe eat half the deal  for some good prospects?

Chappy is still on CashMan’s list, but now so  are the Nats, just  to  drive up  the price no  doubt.. Nats might be closer to a playoff run then the Yanks so we’ll see if they outbid Steinbrenner and if Chapman accepts probably deferred payments..

The Giants are also hot for a closer, but might be too  smart to pay a Closer $80M over 5 years..If they  revisit their 2016 season, it’ll become obvious they need to get a 2nd opinion on just  how clever they  really are RE: Bull Pen Value

Target dates for the Yanks and MLB in November

November 14: Decisions of qualifying offers are due. Only relevant to the Yanks because they have a clearer sense of who will be available on the market. This is also the date that the AL Rookie of the Year award is announced. It should be a very close decision between Gary Sanchez and Michael Fulmer.

November 15: AL Manager of the Year announced. Joe Girardi won’t win, and probably shouldn’t, but he usually gets a few votes.

November 16: AL Cy Young announced. Masahiro Tanaka was a strong contender before missing his final two starts with a forearm issue. He still might make a few ballots after such an excellent year.

November 19: The Arizona Fall League seasons ends with their championship game. At 18-12 and in first place as of this writing, the Scottsdale Scorpions are strong candidates to represent the East Division in this contest. It would be fun to see James Kaprielian start this one.
