From now on it should not be “why did Cashman bring in this so-an-so player, he’s blocking a young prospect?”

When Cashman does exactly what he did, give a HR hitting strike out machine like Chris “Clarence” Carter $3.5M as an insurance plan, he’s just  buying a piece of the Rock, and it’s business as usual…

Is it me, or do  the Yanks have a very fragile bunch of touted prospects?

Men  we’ve lost to injury

Greg Bird, Mason Williams, and Luis Torrens (torn shoulder labrum) Nick Rumbelow, Austin DeCarr, Ty Hensley, and Domingo German (the TJS crew)

Bryan Mitchell (broken toe)  James Kaprielian (elbow), Jacob Lindgren (TJS, non-tendered),

Some of these prospects were expected to play roles on the 2016 squad, Mitchell  was the Yanks best pitcher coming out of ST, until he broke his toe..Bird’s shoulder injury doomed the season before it started.. Kaprielian wasn’t scheduled to pitch in the Bronx, but his elbow injury delayed his 2017  arrival, putting him a year  behind

Lindgren was selected in the second round, with the 55th overall selection of the 2014 MLB draft.. For some reason he always seemed to have first  round hype attached to him as a Bomber.

His numbers in the minors were good, but he bombed (5.14 ERA) pitching for the varsity, then  got hurt. The Yankees non-tendered Lindgren after the season, making him a free agent.

Yesterday Tyler Austin was lost for 6 weeks, when he fouled a ball off his left foot..

I’d take the over on that prognosis, an 8 to  10 week plan seems more like it.. We might be hearing from him by the end of April, so  the Yanks lose first base and corner  OF depth

Mason Williams is also  out, (left patellar tendon strain)  Williams being hurt is a rite-of-spring, so he’s never really counted on, Re: the varsity..He gone for  two weeks

Williams was destined to become Aaron Hick’s sparring partner, and on paper have a shot as the Yanks 4th OFer, but Hicks is out of options so he’s not going anywhere but North..

Austin was the odd man out on paper with the acquisition of Chris “Clarence” Carter AKA Patches..At least that’s what the Yanks were hoping, but there are no  guarantees that Greg Bird is ready to  fly just yet, so we could be looking at

Carter  and Holliday  as the opening day  first base options, with Refsynder banging on the door, if Bird needs more reps at AAA?

Get Well Soon Tyler, we’ll tie a yellow ribbon in anticipation of your return, but we ain’t gonna hold out breaths on any results..

  3. Yanks beat Betances on the stolen bases issue, 21 for 21 on his watch was always a sore spot.. Yanks also showed up with an army of lawyers and team figureheads.. All to save $2M for a kid who has made 3 All Star teams in 3 seasons

“It would seem not to have hurt Betances’ case that Baltimore reliever Brad Brach won his arbitration case earlier Friday, getting $3.05 million in his second year of being eligible for arbitration. Though Brach has emerged as an elite setup man and was an All-Star last season, he has not been as dominant as Betances”.

    • I fucking NEVER liked Levine or his elitist attitude. He’s fucking wrong!! Elite closers don’t get 5 million……they get 12 million!!!
      WTF is he talking about????

  6. I’m with you Sal. How does he have a 2 1/2 old……I thought he was a kid himself???

Too bad about Austin. As you laid out the choreography, I don’t really like the dance routine.
It IS amazing how often Mason Williams gets hurt.
Patches better cut down on creating a wind tunnel…

    • tough break on Betances, bondsie Levine what an ass hole, he didn’t have to get wise ass about it.

      February 18, 2017 at 1:13 pm

  7. Andrew Miller isn’t a closer he makes $9M per, but it’s about Betances’ timeline, it’s his 1st arbitration.. And Levine shows what a dolt he really is, Saves are a BS stat, and the more these guys use the save stat to set value trends the more BS it’ll be

    February 18, 2017 at 1:11 pm

    • In every era you had to get 27 outs
In this era it takes 5 pitchers to make that happen, so middle relievers are eventually gonna get paid
The Yanks are just holding off the inevitable

Those middle innings are just as important as the 9th inning Miller proved that
      Save stat is total BS

  8. Man Betances went off at his press conference.
    This can be a distraction.
    Not a good attitude
