Yanks Drub Philly

“That ball wouldn’t have been out of a lot of parks, @Yankees ” Name one: “Yellowstone”

Yup those Philly guys were right about the HR Aaron Judge hit in yesterday’s 9-4 win over the Phillies..

Judge batted 9th with  two PA’s. In the 3rd inning he whiffed on a 2-2 breaking pitch in the dirt

In the fifth he slammed the first pitch he saw from 22 yr old leftie Elniery De Jesus Garcia for a monster HR to  the top of the scoreboard at GMS

We had a chance to  see both sides of the 25 yr old prospect, the 42% K rate Judge, and the Judge that will put fannies in Hal’s seats, and numbers on the Bombers board..

Judge is the type of player Rob Manfred wants in his league,  he can be electrifying, he just needs to put the ball in play  more often..

The Bombers put on a good show of offense, helped considerably by some shoddy Philly OF defense.. There is a disclaimer on games played in Fla. and yesterday Mother Nature may have helped the Philly boys look a bit rusty

That  said Gregorius, Holliday and a slew of Baby Bombers hit rockets all over the field, yes maybe the Boston or KC OF nabs some of the hits, but that’s a discussion for another day.. For now let’s bathe in the glorious Spring flavored kool that aid Bryl-Creem Curry, and BrickHouse aka CannonBall Marakavits dumped all over what  was otherwise a pretty good telecast..

Although Kay  and Singleton are starting to  resemble Sanford and Son.. Some of the concepts like players wearing commercial  ads on their uniform was something Fred Sanford would have come up  with. As for Kay, he’s just  a dummy…

We love Baltimore Kenny, but Al Yankzeera could use a younger dude who  can dip their toes into  the new metrics, but doesn’t swim in it.. Somebody who played the game but isn’t still  dancing  the Shag, not that  there is anything wrong with  that, but they  want younger audiences right?

Same with Ma and Pa Pinstripe, we’re not saying  put them out of work, we don’t want to mess with Trumpie’s job’s ratings,  maybe YES could pipe them into  all  the metropolitan  area nursing homes, but for the rest of the listeners, lets upgrade the radio broadcast too..

Hits and Runs

Shortstop Didi Gregorius hit a first-inning homer completely out of Steinbrenner Field,

Rookie right fielder Aaron Judge hit a tape-measure, fifth-inning bomb off the scoreboard in left-center field,

Catcher Kyle Higashioka went deep in the seventh, and

DH Matt Holliday looked good in his first game in pinstripes, going 2-for-2 with two line-drive singles,

The Baby Bombers came up big, as outfielder Clint Frazier laced a two-run, eighth-inning triple

Third baseman Miguel Andujar was 2-for-2 with a double and a triple.

Rotation candidates Bryan Mitchell and Luis Cessa each worked a pair 1-2-3 innings.

The kids who  got the most juice in the off season Sanchez and Torres had relatively quiet days.. Torres hit a nifty  sac fly to right field showing good bat  control

Refsynder under the radar hit and RBI single

Sanchez looked like he did last Spring

    • Donny good points…what a contrast in teams and ST buzz..

The Red Sox touted to have the best team in baseball, have zero buzz in their camp, their team is already set, there are no more prospects thanks to the Big Dombrowski trading all but 2 of them away, so all they have going are pros getting ready for the season 6 weeks away…. And they still draw over 9 large in Fort Myers

The Yanks have so many young prospects you don’t where to turn next… Can’t even go to the bath room or you’ll miss a Frazier or Andujar or Torres AB

After 2017 the Yanks will have no pitchers on the roster so every kid is getting a very long look… If you’re a pitcher in baseball you have circled NY on your calendar, they have more job openings then Dunkin Donuts

  3. Funhouse‏@SportsFunhouse

One of my favorite clips of 2016. And it lends credence to the theory that Mike wants Joe & Evan to replace him because he knows they suck.

  4. What a great sight to see baseball again! Watching the sun splashed field, you could almost feel the warmth & smell of the fresh cut grass (my favorite scent).
Had to watch the replay due to being in the office, & fell out doing so due to the midnight start. But the first thing I saw was Judge’s bomb. Wow! That was some poke!
    I love watching the kids.

As to the broadcasting situation. The radio side has needed an overhaul for years. But that ain’t happening anytime soon. I believe in Hal’s eyes, Ma to a lesser extent than Pa, long ago reached Yankee iconic status. Whether you like them or not, doesn’t matter. Hal does. He stays with long standing loyal employees. IE CashMan. So I think Sterling will stay there as long as he wants, unless there’s a major uprising. Personally, when listening, you have no idea WTF is going on cuz he’s always behind the play & NEVER tells you the score!!!

As to my man Singleton. Me, I love him. I still find him inciteful, when givin the chance. Yup, he’s never going to really rock the Al Yankeezera boat & be controversial. But he can make a point with his stories of when he played & applying it to a specific situation today. And he’s funny. And I like his musical references. Like when he quotes B.B. King, in a certain situation, “Never Make Your Move Too Soon”. I love that shit!
But, you make a good point Sal, they need to inject some more of today’s metrics into the conversation. But, not at the expense of Singleton. Let them get rid of one of the other 27 announcers first.
