Quacking Like Ducks

Because Wednesday’s 10-4 win over Team Canada was not an official Grapefruit League game, nothing the Yankees did – good or bad – will show up in the official stats.

Winning 10-4 over a Canadian National  team would sound good if they  were playing hockey, but they  weren’t, so Spring Training or not, Severino’s outing was a disappointment

So I guess the HR’s El Gary, Holliday, Higgy and Hicks hit won’t count on their stat line, which only matters if you need stats padded to  win an internet chat  room  argument..

One stat that  will be scrutinized even if it  doesn’t  count it  is Luis Severino’s  less then stellar outing

2 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs, 1 BB, 4 K’s, 1 HR

Severino  had only faced Toronto  in the two  previous games this Spring and yesterday’s line mirrors his 2nd outing vs the Blue Jays

Severino

Yesterdays debacle isn’t official, but if it was, Severino’s ST would look like this

3 Games, 6.1 innings, 8 hits, 4 runs, 3 BB’s, 9 K’s, 5.90 ERA

It’s only that  good because he faced a make shift Toronto line-up  for 2 innings in his February start

He’s getting punch outs but in between the K’s when  the ball meets the bat bad things seem to  happen to Severino’s offerings

We’re out of time this morning but we’ll make a compilation of all  the pitchers battling for the last two  rotation  spots, and so  far It Ain’t Pretty...

It’s a good thing Girardi  claims he’s not looking for results, because what he’ll  find is he has 5 bull pen arms trying to become MLB starters..

It’s still  early in ST, or so  they  say, but the young pitchers Cashman is marching to  the bump fighting for the last two  rotation  spots  are Quacking like Ducks

And if it quacks like a duck, guess what….

  1. This starting pitching battle been take a turn for the better, because so far not one of these guys is making it easy for them to pick somebody

They might have to choose the two just based on the stuff they have and hope once the bell rings it pans out

  2. Opposing team scouts had Severino’s fastball sitting at 95-98 mph in the 27-pitch first inning and 93-96 in the second inning. His slider came in at 85-88 and his changeup 86-88.

“The stuff is good,” an AL scout said. “It’s about command. It’s been better than last year but not where it should be or needs to be. But, for me, with that arm, he’s still in the rotation.”
