The Eyes of March

with 11 comments

March  has been a very good month for the NY Yankees…The Bronx Bombers are now 11-3 after taking a close 8-7 win over the Braves in front of 7,400  fans at Champion Stadium in  Kissimmee, FLa..

FWIW that’s the best Grapefruit League record, the Bombers lead the 10-3 Pirates by  a 0.5 game…

The Only broadcast was a radio  feed from the Braves,  there is no  video so we won’t see the

Three hits and two steals by Jacoby Ellsbury,

Home run by Brett Gardner,

Single and a walk by Aaron Judge,

Double by Gleyber Torres,

Triples by Aaron Hicks and Dustin Fowler,

Two hits apiece by Tyler Wade and Ruben Tejada.

Michael Pineda looks like he was in mid season form

Pineda 3.0 innings, 3 hits,  2  runs no BB’s, 1 K

Chasen Shreve did a good job coughing up  a 3 run HR, so  he’s working on a spot for the SWB RailRiders..

Heller High Water hurled 1.2 innings, 1 hit, 1 BB, 1 K, so he’s still in the 25 man roster mix…

2B: Torres (3, O’Flaherty)
3B: Hicks (1, Boyer); Fowler (2, De La Cruz)
HR: Gardner (1, 1st inning off Blair 0 on, 0 Out)
RBI: Gardner (2), Romine (1), Tejada (3), Fowler (2), Díaz 2 (2), Frazier (5), Torres (3)
S: Torreyes
GIDP: Carter
Yankees RISP: 4-18 (W Castillo 0-1, Díaz 1-2, Choi 0-1, Frazier 0-1, Kozma 0-1, Romine 1-1, Wade 1-1, Hicks 0-2, Carter 0-3, Mateo 0-1, Judge 0-1, Tejada 1-1, Gardner 0-1, Fowler 0-1)
Team LOB: 12

SB: Ellsbury 2 (3, 2nd base off Blair/Suzuki 2)
DP: 1 (W Castillo-Mateo-Mantiply).

Bad News

Word is Girardi / Cashman will make their first ST cuts after this weekend, so  the big boys start  to  get more playing time.. Normally that’s a good thing, but this year most of the fun kids to  watch  will be gone at least by March  14th..

Bye Bye Frazier, Torres, McKinney, Mateo, Sheffield, Kaprielian, to name a few

Good chance we’ll  keep  seeing Fowler, Higashioka and Wade..

Higgy would have nailed down the back-up  catcher gig if Romine still had options, but unless Romine is traded by April, Higashioka will probably be stashed at  AAA as catching depth..

Wade Your Turn Fowler

With Gregarious still playing in the WBC, Torres and Mateo expected to be cut, we might see more of Tyler Wade who is being groomed as a Swiss Army knife..

Out Fielder Dustin Fowler has recently gotten as much ink as Judge or any of the highly touted prospects, but it’s based on his ST performance more so  then  the Bomber hype machine..

Fowler at  the moment has probably leveraged himself as the first OF call up ahead of Williams, Frazier or Cave..Aaron Hicks (6 for 20, 1 HR, 3.90 OBP) is having a very good ST, and had Judge not been a #HalCare favorite to  crack the starting 9, Hicks would probably have won the right field job

What  we do know after seeing Fowler hold his own and Hicks start  to  up his game, Gardner has become expendable as a player… He might still be a Teachers Pet and good clubhouse dude, but Hicks / Fowler with Frazier in the wings and Judge seemingly improved from last season, how does Cashman not trade Gardner if indeed a deal falls in his lap?

the Whole 9

  2. Frazier got a hair cut and it’ll be auctioned off to raise money for kids with cancer…

    March 10, 2017 at 11:44 am

  3. The hair was becoming a distraction, that’s the fucking media stirring it up, if They would just change the policy there would be no distractions… Jenny Steinbrenner needs to wake the fuck up, and change the rule..

More media zombies wanted to inquire about Sabathia’s beard then his change up

    WTF smh

  4. I read somewhere that “Now he’s a true Yankee”

really. He’ll be a true NYY when puts up a 850 OPS, a 38% OB, and he’s raking 25 Taters out of the 2 hole, I don’t care if he looks like Chico Marx……

    • lol… That’s fine Donny I knew you’d love this move, I just keep thinking every player that leaves NY grows their hair and sports whiskers, Nova just said the team was no fun, Cano said the same thing, even the nerd Phil Hughes grew a beard…

Frazier is trying to make it in baseball he said all the right stuff, but deep down he knows it’s over the top… see the fucking ball hit the fucking ball run the bases win Rings, that’s my philosophy, straight hat crooked hat beard pony tail I don’t care, lay down on the job, and you’re gonna see the whites of my eyes

Steinbrenner’s money bought good players so they won 7 Rings in 43 years spending the most money in an era when spending money mattered.. now every team has money, it’s not moot, you can reboot faster but it’s not automatic..

I get the dress code focus thing, but it’s not the reason NY has grabbed the gold 27 times… Actually if I had gotten a gig with the NYY I would have cut the hair 10 minutes later, but I still would have thought it was silly..

He needs to hone his terrible skills for us not the PRs, no ??

    March 10, 2017 at 9:49 pm
