Big My-Oh Mike
The Yanks stopped their 2 game losing streak with a 3-1 win over a Terrible Phillies travel squad in front of 10,500 Large at GMS.. The W gives the Bombers a 14-5 record this Spring..
Ten Thousand five hundred fans at a ST game, glad baseball needs to be fixed by Rob Manfred..Maybe get the A’s out of Oakland and the Rays out of Tampa, force them to spend some money, and leave the speed of the game alone..?
Run, Don’t Walk Year
Michael Pineda was so funky last night he struck out one Phillie player as the dude was trying get out of the way of a nasty nasty slider en-route to 15 up, 15 down, 8 punch outs, and 5 perfect innings…
Pineda’s pitches had more life then an Up With People concert last night, it was a chilly evening, so first thing that came to mind was Pineda might have been loading up the pine tar?
You couldn’t help to notice the Philly batters had no clue how to barrel the damn ball up, it made you think, this version of Big Mike could have handled most any line-up.. Maybe the futility of this Philly crew gave Pineda enough confidence to relax, slow down his game, don’t think, just pitch…
Or maybe Pineda has decided to dial it up in a walk year looking for his big payday?
Big Mike was traded to the Bombers after a stellar 2011 season with the Mariners. Bomber heart throb Jesus Montero was the bounty, and there were mixed emotions at the time thanks to the over hyping of Montero by the Yankees promo department.
It was devastating when Pineda showed up at camp a big lump of over weight damaged goods consequently spending 2012 / 2013 rehabbing a bad wing…. He finally made his debut in 2014 starting 13 games, compiling 5-5 record, 1.89 ERA 76.1 innings, 56 hits
He went downhill from there and his 2015 /2016 seasons showed occasional glimpses of brilliance, but the inconsistencies were clouding his future despite punching out 207 batters in 2016.. For the most part Pineda was a bonafide Bust, not to the level of Montero, but Big Mike hadn’t lived up to the promise he showed in 2011 as a Mariner..
So far this Spring
3 games, 10 innings, 4 hits , 14 K’s, batters are hitting .118 off him, he’s up to 62 pitches, a few more starts should get him ready for his first real test when he’ll most likely start game 2 or 3, April 4 /5 vs the Rays
The Yanks picked up 7 hits, Sanchez 2 knocks, Bird (HR #4) and Torres a double, had 5 of them.
Gardner and Headley had the other two knocks
Bird Smacked his 4th Tater scored 1 run drove in 1, Torres’ grounder hit the third base bag and he legged out a double, later scored on a Fowler sac fly..
Sanchez singled in an un-earned run in the 2nd
Chappy pitched 1 inning, 2 K’s, 1 BB
Chad Green was good tossing 3 innings, he gave up the only hit, a single by Galvis, who later scored the Phillies only run after a wild pitch and two ground ball outs.
Another round of roster cuts were announced: Johnny Barbato, Dietrich Enns, and Gio Gallegos were optioned to Triple-A, Miguel Andujar was optioned to Double-A, and Chance Adams was sent to minor league camp. There are about 48 players still in big league camp give or take a few
Kaprielian set to make spring debut today in Dunedin against Blue Jays, and it’s NOT ON TV…That really sucks…
Chase Headley Warning
#Yankees have been getting Gleyber Torres some pregame work at third base. Not expected to play there in GL, but something to keep eye on.
Bry-Creem Curry: Ernesto Frieri, who hasn’t pitched in majors since 2015, said he hasn’t officially signed with the Yankees. “Hopefully, tomorrow, he said.
Let’s hope this guy doesn’t take a gig from some young pitcher, Yanks need hybrid relievers not another Swarzak Gidrool.. I did read a report that Ernie was hitting 95 on the gun for Team Colombia
Hopefully Romine’s hand is ok, the catchers have done a hell of a job with the pitchers, you’d hate to see that synergy fucked up…

Blow Jays announcers are hilarious, when they were winning 4-1 every thing was gung ho, when the Yanks tied it, after 3 HR’s it was ST doesn’t mean much especially to veteran teams like the Jays lol
Frazier just tied it with the yanks 4th Tater
Mitchell gave up a run on a walk and a triple, they said Williams had in his glove and dropped it..
3 innings, 2 hits, 1 run 1 BB, 5 K’s….
My man Mateo 0-3 two punch outs… he might be going soon….Might as well give Wade and Torreyes the Reps

Kaprielian entered a 5-5 game in the seventh inning and retired five of six batters he faced, three on strikeouts, in a 25-pitch outing in which he looked completely healthy after missing most of last season with an elbow injury.
In the seventh, the righty retired the Jays on 11 pitches. The 2015 first-round draft pick struck out leadoff hitter Anthony Alford on three pitches, walked Richard Urena on four pitches and then got out of the inning by getting Steve Pearce to bounce into a 5-4-3 double play.
In the 1-2-3 eighth, Russell Martin and Rowdy Tellez struck out looking, then Kaprielian finished his work day by retiring Jon Berti on a lineout to right.
Earlier, Cessa gave up four runs and six line-drive hits that were smoked over 1 2/3 innings, spiking his spring ERA to 7.04.
Mitchell, the Yankees’ third pitcher, allowed just one run over three innings … the run scored on a sixth-inning triple in which center fielder Dustin Fowler dropped the ball while trying to make a running catch in deep center.
What went wrong for Cessa?
“My stuff was good, but I missed my spots and we paid the price,” Cessa said. “No excuses.”
