Yanks Squash the gNats

with 26 comments

PR Beats Netherlands Thanks to  Joke Rules

So  the WBC wants to  take itself serious? Why  the games on  so late, this one ended about 1:30  this morning ET?

And how lame does it get when in extra innings you’re allowed to  put runners on 1st and 2nd base and the inning starts from there… You know how Puerto Rico Won, the inning starts with a sac bunt and ends with  a sac fly, game over

All  that blood sweat and tears, not to mention losing DD Gregorius means exactly what Rob Manfred if you’re gonna play girls softball  rules on the supposed Big Stage ?

I guess the road team had the same chance but blew it, so……Still it’s a gross reminder what  a ridiculous exhibition this really is, and these countries going nuts over it is even crazier.. A lot of these games have empty stadiums, no other network outside of  MLB tv and  the Spanish speaking ESPN feed gave this an ounce of credibility, so where’s the juice?

“It means a lot, because Puerto Ricans have gone through a very difficult [economic] situation currently, and we were able to unite our country,” Correa said, “because of our blond hair and through baseball.”

Really Carlos, where did you get that socio political jargon from, how do these games help  your economic issues? And if you all want to  dye your hair blond to  show unification why you need this bogus exhibition where only one party benefits, and that’s Rob Manfred’s league?

Guess what  when all  these Blondes wake up  this morning the country is still in economic peril, I hope that hair dye goes a long way Yo

Yanks Smash  the gNats

The Yanks grabbed their 18th win of the ST season with  a lopsided  9-3 victory over the ho hum Washington Nats

The Bombers are 24 games into ST and the we can  safely now say  we’re entering the dog days of Spring Training for some of these guys.. Perhaps with  the WBC only 2 games away  from  concluding yet another stupid Rob Manfred idea, team’s will be getting their regulars back and things could  start  to  spice back up  some ..? Or not..

Michael Pineda was the poster boy for how little any of these guaranteed a roster spot players care about ST.. Pineda lasted only an  embarrassing 1.2 innings yesterday after Girardi  had seen enough of his 6’7 inch pin tar rag during a 33 pitch 2nd inning where Pineda failed to get the 3rd out..

“I wanted to finish the inning, but Joe told me that was a lot of pitches in this inning and it’s spring training, so he took me out,” said Pineda, who went into the day on a pitch count of 75.

Good job Mike, after a 13 pitch  1st inning, Pineda lost his focus in the 2nd inning, so in that  regard he was in mid-season  form,  and ended up 29 pitches short of his assignment..

Pineda had plenty of time to  day  dream after the Yanks plated 4 runs in the top of the 2nd inning off another mensa candidate, DC’s Vance Worley..

Refsnyder doubled to left, Headley scored, Judge to third. 1 0
Torreyes singled to right, Judge scored, Refsnyder to third, Torreyes to second on throwing error by right fielder Harper. 2 0
Gardner singled to left center, Refsnyder and Torreyes scored. 4 0

PineTop left the game with 2 outs, one run in,  and two men  on base, relieved by  27 yr old journeyman JR Graham, who has a very decent line this Spring, but  he allowed the 2 inherited runners to plate turning a 4-1 lead into  a 4-3 margin

Two potential  25 man  roster candidates Chad Green 3.1 innings, 2 hits, 1 BB, 2 K’s

and Ben Heller high water 0.2 innings, 1 hit, 1 BB,  kept the Nats off the board for 4 innings.. Kyle Holder finished off the laugher with 2 more scoreless frames..

Hit and Run

Greg Bird continued his amazing ST with  2 more hits

Matt Holliday  smacked his 3rd Tater

Gleyber Torres won’t be a candidate to fill in at shortstop if Gregorius opens the season on the DL, but his great spring continued Monday. In his only at-bat, the 20-year-old laced a two-run double to center in the Yankees’ three-run eighth, hiking his average to .464 with 13 hits, two homers and nine RBIs in 28 at-bats.

Present day Bomber Right Field candidates Aaron Judge and Aaron Hicks both had base hits as that battle for that  corner spot continues to  unfold

And future Bomber Right fielder Bryce Harper went 2 for 3 and made a sensational  catch

  1. Judge just missed a Tater as one went just the wrong side of the right field foul pole… He also picked up a base on balls.. All he has to do is stay even with Hicks and he’ll get the gig, at the moment they’re neck and neck

Like the great Al McGuire once said to a kid who was trying to beat out Al’s son for a starting guard spot on the Marquette basketball team

The kid, Coach I’m as good as your son why didn’t I get the job?

“Young man, Al’s my son, if you want that job you have to be better then him not just as good”

  2. WBC = Dumb hurtful waste of time and manpower

Bosucks vs NYY NO TV ???
    WTF bro

    March 21, 2017 at 6:55 am

    • Donny do you have MLB tv ? I believe it’s on that station tonight 6:30 ish

      March 21, 2017 at 6:58 am

  3. the Yanks are gonna start to look at Mateo in center field, he’ll start in High A ball which is a real diss to the kid, he should be playing alongside Torres at Trenton, maybe they think CF will inspire him.. io don’t know what happened too this kid, but it’s a real bummer he didn’t pick up where he left off last ST….

    March 21, 2017 at 6:57 am

  4. Sale will pitch tonight, very strange that Farrell is taking Sale to Tampa… Sale used to be un-hittable vs the old NYY, let’s see if this new crew can figure him out… if not Sale will send a message, you better pick on one of the other 4 starters cause you ain’t touching this stuff

at least they won’t have to face Wright band that knuckleball, I’d rather them face Koufax then Stephen Wright

    March 21, 2017 at 7:01 am

  5. This is a fantastic breakdown of the 4 remaining rotation candidates… Mikey 2 Chins left out Adam Warren, which he should, I’ll be the 5th starter in NY before Adam Warren…..

    March 21, 2017 at 7:02 am

  6. So, let me get this straight. In the WBC, in extra innings. You can start the inning by placing runners on 1st & 2nd???
That delegitimizes the whole freakin thing! I don’t have to hear about anything else. As Sal said, “This is like girls softball”.
I never liked this thing anyway & didn’t like when they played it as well.
Rushing players to get ready for this in ST is a recipe for disaster.

    March 21, 2017 at 9:37 am

    • Yes moscone, Big D made me aware that that’s a girls softball rule…Speaking of which, I hope Big D is doing well haven’t heard from him..

      March 21, 2017 at 2:27 pm

  7. Chris Sale starts vs. Yanks. #RedSox:

Hernandez SS, Benintendi LF, Travis 1B, JBJ CF, Leon C, Brentz RF, Dominguez 3B, Quentin DH, Miller 2B

    March 21, 2017 at 11:33 am

  8. DD out at least month, doubt they bring up Wade and put him on the 40 man, I bet this is a Kozma, Tejada, Solano , Torreyes mission… man that’s a zzzzzzzzz…. SS should be your best player

    March 21, 2017 at 4:45 pm

  9. Mitchell looking pretty good so far, a sun baked single but a nice double down the first base line.. Mitchell just punched out a guy on what looked like a splitter 2 innings 25 pitches

    Sale looks un-hittable

Torreyes has made 3 great plays at SS

    March 21, 2017 at 7:00 pm

  10. what a shock Sale strikes out Carter

    March 21, 2017 at 7:03 pm

  11. Sale’s striking out everybody and his slider still isn’t working, so he only has 3 or 4 other pitches to slice you up with

and they got this guy for that bum moncada, wow 5 k’s in 2 innings, Ellsbury is the only guy to even hit a ball

    March 21, 2017 at 7:07 pm

  12. the Red Sox B team is whacking mitchell like a rented mule in the 3rd inning,

Mitchell got his 2 innings now they have him figured out, Straighten him out Larry, that Miller kid took his lunch and he’s lost it

    March 21, 2017 at 7:17 pm

  13. Mitchell after Larry talked to him started to throw some change ups and a curve and stopped the bleeding he was going cutter crazy and they were sitting on it

    Sale is a fucking complete monster 7 K’s in 3 innings….

Gleyber Torres is not a candidate to make the Opening Day roster. Brian Cashman says (again) that he will open season at Double-A.

Cashman says Yanks had a long meeting talking about moving Starlin Castro to SS, or plugging in Torreyes, Wade, Kozma or Tejada.

Yankees will have Starlin Castro play some shortstop before camp ends. Could be him, Torreyes, Wade, Tejada. Won’t be Torres.

  15. I thought Sale was gonna grab a beer when he went into that cooler, I mean he’s striking out guys like it’s a beer softball game…..

    March 21, 2017 at 7:44 pm

  16. wow Mitchell punching out Marco twice so 4 of the 7 K’s came against LHB, that’s very good for Mitch.. Still in line to make the roster even if it’s not as a starter

    March 21, 2017 at 7:51 pm

  17. Mitch did a good job, gave up too many hits 7, and in contrast to Sale he looked ordinary, but he did break off some nice off speed pitches, if he just does more of that he can get through 5 innings maybe..

    March 21, 2017 at 7:54 pm

    • Hey Sal I am still alive and well(???). Please send me your email-mine is still on aol-and I will fill you in

      March 21, 2017 at 7:56 pm

  18. Sale and catcher Sandy Leon could have picked up 7 winos in Tampa and won this game.. Reminds me of Eddie “The King” Feigner and his court

    March 21, 2017 at 7:59 pm

  19. Hey Big D great to here from you.. Here’s the email…

    March 21, 2017 at 8:00 pm

  20. Holliday smacked a 2 run HR on Sale’s 83rd pitch at least they let some air out of his tires

    March 21, 2017 at 8:38 pm

  21. Frazier flipped over the fence trying to catch a fly ball

    March 21, 2017 at 8:38 pm

  22. Sal, my MLB has that phashtunkina USA vs Japan.
Sounds like a good game though

    March 21, 2017 at 9:07 pm

    • I figured as much Donny, it was a NESN feed from the GMS, weird that’s why I was dropping intel.. Sucky game really the offense was stymied
