Baby Beaners Sale past Bombers

with 18 comments

The Yanks got their first look at Chris Sale in Red, not White laundry and the end result was the same old Sale, absolute dominance in Boston’s 4-2 win over the Bombers..It was the Yankees 7th  loss against 18  wins and this dud was in front of 10,850 fans at  GMS in Tampa

It was a strange night from the get go, we had to  swallow an annoying NESN telecast at  a NYY home game but with no Al Yankzeera YES cameras in sight ? Tom Caron never shuts up, nobody is that happy, NO B-O-D-Y, both Caron  and Lyons need to lower the dosage on the Adderall

By 10 o’clock  today  every NYY fan will know by heart that Chris Sale  is 4-1 with a 1.17 ERA in 10 regular-season games (seven starts) against the Bombers

the lowest by any pitcher in the last 100 years (min. 50 IP).

Now ain’t that just special, Sale was  striking out everybody and his slider still wasn’t working for 3 innings, so he only had 3 or 4 other pitches to slice you up with

And they got this guy for that bum Moncada, and some meathead (Kopech) who wants to throw 107 MPH, which is ok if you wanna join the circus..

Sale had 9 punch outs in 4 innings, the 5th  was the only inning he didn’t strike anybody out…

In the 6th, Castro  doubled to left field and on the 83rd pitch of the night, Sale didn’t get enough  spin rate on a sinker and Holliday’s  inside out swing lifted it to right field, where it found enough wind to  carry it out for Matt’s 4th Tater of the Spring, great piece of hitting…

For the Yanks, Bryan Mitchell was better then I thought he’d be, and really as good if not better then his previous outing, but he didn’t impress Girardi

Mitchell gave up two runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings against Boston’s B squad.

“It was OK,” Joe Girardi said of Mitchell’s outing. “He gave up some hard-hit balls today. I thought he could’ve used his curveball a little bit more effectively.”

Mitchell was getting hit hard in the first  2 innings, but he managed to keep Boston off the board thanks to  2 great plays by Torreyes at SS..

In the 3rd inning the Red Sox had his cutter measured and some kid  Mike Miller who makes Pedroia look like Wilt Chamberlain hit his first HR in 96 games to RF.. Mitchell went downhill after Miller took his lunch until Larry the Stable guy  came to  the mound to scold him

Mitch started to break off his curve and his new split or change up, hard to  tell, but it had enough life on it to  keep  Boston off his cutter and he settled down enough to hand the ball  to Chappy in the 5th inning with one out

M. Miller homered to right. 1 0
Hernández singled to left. 1 0
Benintendi doubled to deep right, Hernández to third. 1 0
Travis singled to center, Hernández scored, Benintendi to third. 2 0
Travis caught stealing second, catcher to shortstop. 2 0
Bradley Jr. struck out swinging. 2 0
León struck out swinging.

For the Yanks they picked up only 4 hits, Sanchez singled, Castro had two knocks, and Holliday smacked the 2 run Tater, das it

Boston brought mostly minor league players to  the game sans Benintendi, Bradley, and Leon.. Mitchell punched out the hot hitting Marco Hernandez twice, actually 4 of the 7 K’s Mitch picked up  were against LHB’s which was good to  see, his splits vs LHB are really what is keeping him from  the Show as a starter

Without a decent change up or splitter he only has his cutter to  handle LHB’s, last night he was successful vs LHB’s it was the RHB that  got him in trouble

That’s about it , Yanks didn’t do  enough offensively to talk  about.. Clint Frazier seemed OK after flipping over the fence trying to  catch  a foul  ball

Cessa is only getting 2 inning stints , last night he gave up  a run, so the T leaves are reading  he might be the odd man out here.. Cessa needs more innings under his belt, starting games at AAA should sharpen up his 4 pitch  arsenal, and ready him for a  call up in season

  1. The effin “brain trust” needs to not overthink the SS dilemma.
    Keep it simple stupids
Let Torreyes or Castro play there and stop the platoon talk bs
    Gawd they are insufferable
Toldja there was no game in my world bro,
How do you get NESN on top of your Mountain bro ??

    • Donny I think the mind set is we’ll be running Torreyes out of the Bronx if he plays everyday for 6 weeks, that’s why he’s a utility player… Castro is lucky he can play 2nd base with his lack of focus, but he’ll probably get some SS reps

the telling thing is not a peep about Refsyander playing 2nd base and Castro SS… Ref has really hit the skids in the minds of NY’s brass

The Yanks were on thin ice going in, they couldn’t afford an injury to Headley or Gregorius, based on the have no real back up plan

In Boston they have two young kids ready to go in Hernandez and Sam Travis, if any of their infielders go down.. we have ugots at the moment

  4. ok boys, I guess watching Patches Carter flail away at Sale last night sent Girardi over the edge

Yankees manager Joe Girardi confirmed the inevitable, saying Greg Bird will be the Yankees starting first baseman. http://www.espn.com/espn/now?nowId=21-0636201493115967688-4

    • Donny is right Bird is the text book Yankee central casting couldn’t have casted a better fit

2 taters today 5 RBI’s my app went heywire so I lost the feed
I believe El Gary was on base both times
      Tanaka SAN another scoreless outing
TJ and Sale have been the two best I’ve seen so far
Francesca trying to explain why Torres isn’t coming North
If Cashman told him the sky was green he’d buy it
Here’s a guarantee Francesa hasn’t seen more then 2 ABs of Torres this Spring
Mr Football Mr knick Mr college hoops doesn’t have time for fake baseball
      He called ST fake baseball
Although it’s not fake when Bird went nuts today
Francesa has Birdy in the HOF
      Based on ST numbers
Francesa is why God made two sides of your mouth and he uses both sides effectively

  11. Chris Carter avoids a rare spring golden sombrero with a walk. Carter this spring: Hitting .108, with 20 strikeouts and 4 hits. Not a typo!

Dallas Green was one of the smartest people I ever met in baseball – & never afraid to say & do what he felt was right. Took on George Steinbrenner, building lights at Wrigley & veteran stars in Philly. RIP a great man

  13. Nice win for the Yanks today,Tanaka continued to throw shut out ball and Bird was a one man gang. Even our pal Headley homered! Yankee offense has looked very good all spring, the disturbing part has been the starters other than Tanaka. RIP Dallas Green,he was not afraid to say what he believed. I want to thank everyone for their kind thoughts, its greatly appreciated!!!!!! I know Nooger has not been feeling well,we miss his informing us about Francesa-I saw in the paper that all 4 of his final 4 picks for the NCAA tourney were eliminated in the first round-lol Back after this
