Judgement Day, Not Really

with 16 comments

We should know sometime today what 25 players  will be heading to Atlanta on Friday then  back down to  Tampa to start the Season on Sunday.. The Yanks have until Noon on Sunday  to make it official

Cashman  did a round of radio interviews, the Michael Kay interview is probably the most concise, just  based on Kay seeing these players actually perform this Spring so  he sort of knew what he was talking about..

The Mike Francesa interview is good if you want to be entertained by a Bozo Radio host with no  clue what  any of these guys looked like, remember Francesa thinks Spring Training is fake baseball

Francesa knows 4 young players, Bird, Sanchez, Torres, and he can’t pronounce it but he knew they had some kid named Kaprielian who  was  supposed to be a good pitcher..

Jordan Montgomery  made his bid to crack the 25 man  roster and  get the ball on either April 10th vs Tampa Bay  or April 16th vs the Cardinals

Montgomery who isn’t on the 40 man roster pitched well, probably  not well  enough to get the April 10th game…

There were 6 hits, a few great  defensive plays that could easily have been hits, one run that came on what  sounded like a Brett Gardner misplayed base hit, he walked 1 batter, struck out 4..

Bad Tea Leaves, sounded like there was quite a bit of hard contact, and he was pitching from behind a lot..

Good Tea Leaves, he only allowed 1 run, and the Jays had a good line-up in the game for 4 of the 5 innings.. This Spring Monty has punched out Longoria twice and Joey Bats once..

Per Girardi  and Cashman the 4th  starter has been picked, it’s most likely Severino..

Tyler Wade was sent back  to  the minors as expected, Ronald Torreyes will most likely get the SS gig, Pete Kozma the utility job, Yup, that’s gonna sell  tickets

The joke competition between Judge and Hicks looks to be leaning toward Hicks despite Judge out hitting him…The Ya inks don’t want Judge sitting on the bench, well then don’t sit him..

This is all  about service time, forget  any bull shit they feed us.. Hicks can’t hit LHP, so I’m going out on a limb and say Rob Refsynder gets the back up  role.. Judge peels off some service time days at SWB, Ref gets showcased for a trade and Hicks gets a chance to prove Cashman  right that he can play

By my count Judge played in 27 games and was in NY 32 days so  he has 32 days of service time

service time

The best man  will not win the job, sorry Hal, and I hope I’m dead wrong..

Judge actually picked up  two hits yesterday and struck out once so he’s batting

.345 .406 .569 .975 with  13 K’s

.264 .361 .528 .889 with 9 K’s

They  both  have 3 HR’s

the Whole 9

  1. one of my sources roster research web site doesn’t have his documented service time so as most blogs do if they are even interested in this stuff I went to baseball reference and counted the days from when he came up in august until the end of the season

Judge didn’t play 5 of the days he was in NY… His service time is pretty close to our number give or take a few days maybe.. Judge coming up in May would give the Yanks a full year of control over him

that’s good for the Yanks or any team they would trade him to .. the Service time links we’ve dropped this week show you just how much money is involved by controlling a player for an extra yr

makes business sense but not much sense to the fans who want to see the best product on the field..

  2. As I’ve said in an earlier post, this ST I’ve seen the least amount of games in recent memory. Which had been clouded by multiple visits to the great Don B!!
That said, I get the service time issue, but just looking at the numbers, Judge has outperformed Hicks in every stat.
Why wouldn’t he win the job? To come up in May so the Yanks have a year of control is shooting yourself in the foot from the perspective of the field. Bring the best 25 guys North to go to war. With the prices they’re charging, they owe it to the fans to field the best. Ya hear that, Brillo???
    Cheap bastard!!

    • Another thing they haven’t mentioned bondsie is Judge’s splits vs RHP, not good .. Ideally Judge and Hicks make a great platoon we might see that later in the season if the Yanks are really trying to win 88 games

but for now with all the RHP Hicks gets the nod… unless we read the T leaves wrong

      vs LHP this ST .563 / .611 / 1.125 / 1.736

      vs RHP .262 / .326 / .357 / .683 / with 12 of his 13 K’s vs RHP

it got better with some of the infield hits he picked up in the last few games, small sample sizes fluctuate as we know

Hicks is 0-12 vs LH pitching this ST.. My guess 12 of the 13 K’s vs RHP might hurt him

  4. Yankees bullpen is Chapman, Betances, Clippard, Warren, Layne, Holder, Mitchell, Shreve

    pretty lame Pen no Heller

Chad Green will go to Double-A so he can start 4/6 and 4/11. Jordan Montgomery will start the same days at Triple-A.

    Ref to AAA

  5. here we go boys

    CATCHERS (2)
    Austin Romine
    Gary Sanchez

    Chris Carter
    Starlin Castro
    Greg Bird
    Chase Headley
    Pete Kozma
    Ronald Torreyes

    Jacoby Ellsbury
    Brett Gardner
    Aaron Hicks
    Aaron Judge

    Matt Holliday

    Michael Pineda
    CC Sabathia
    Luis Severino
    Masahiro Tanaka

    Dellin Betances
    Aroldis Chapman
    Tyler Clippard
    Jonathan Holder
    Tommy Layne
    Bryan Mitchell
    Chasen Shreve
    Adam Warren

    Tyler Austin (foot)
    Didi Gregorius (shoulder)

The Yankees will carry eight relievers for the time being. The team has three off-days in the first ten days of the regular season, allowing them to skip their fifth starter the first two times through the rotation. They’ll do exactly that, then figure out the fifth starter later. They don’t need one until April 16th.

Rotation candidates Luis Cessa, Chad Green, and Jordan Montgomery did not make the Opening Day roster, though it’s only a matter of time until we see those guys in the big leagues. The Yankees will need a fifth starter soon enough, and given his performance last year, I don’t think it’s a given Severino sticks in the rotation all season. Montgomery opened some eyes this spring and could be the first starter called up. We’ll see.

There are 2 NYY knuckleheads by the broadcast mic brilliant

    • Severino has to be Manny Ramirez’s illegitimate child
How do you walk the lead off hitter with a 9-0 lead?

Severino is dead meat when his stuff isn’t electric and his stuff is only electric when he comes out if the pen

Maybe he can figure it out he’s got the tools but hasn’t learned how to use them
Let’s hope he gets in rhythm

      March 30, 2017 at 1:53 pm

    • Maybe he’s taking a dive on orders so no Intel hits the bricks
He’s lost out there the poor guy
27 pitches another 5 or 6 they would have yanked him in the 1st

      March 30, 2017 at 1:57 pm

  8. Severino figured it out
When he gets in rhythm his pitches have natural life, looks tough to hit
When he figures out how to subtract on the slider change man the talent is there

    March 30, 2017 at 2:40 pm
