Nibbles and Bits

Nibbles Tanaka’s regular season ERA is 23.63 and his regular season WHIP at 3.75.

At the conclusion of Monday’s action, Tanaka had the worst WHIP and second-worst ERA (Jhoulys Chacin of the Padres posted a 24.30 mark) of any of this year’s Opening Day starters.

Tanaka also  coughed up  the first HR of the 2017 season off the bat  of Evan Longoria, yes it was a cheapie, and yes it counted..

Chalk It Up

The Red Sox are Chalk, or just  about everybody’s  favorite to  at least win  the AL East.. They  got off on the good foot yesterday at, where else Fenway Park.. It seems like Boston plays more the 81 games in the old Shit Hole on Yawkey Avenue doesn’t it?

Nobody in Boston’s opening day line-up  had a  gaudy statistical afternoon  in their  5-3 win over Gerrit Cole and the Pirates.. They  didn’t need it because every player in the line-up but Mitch Moreland had at least 1 hit

Their stud Rookie didn’t take an O-fer, Andrew Benintendi  actually won the game with a 3 run Tater 400 feet into  the Pirates bull pen

Their Ace who  really isn’t their Ace but a Cy Young winner pitched into  the 7th inning and 4 of his  bull pen mates combined to  toss a scoreless 2.2 inning to  ice the victory…

Five minutes why Everybody Hates Boston

An interesting or irrelevant visual in the Red Sox game, catcher Sandy Leon had a strip of  camouflage on his chest  protector, not sure if that helps or hurts? In one respect it defines the bottom of the strike zone by interrupting the  bright Red chest protector

On the other is it distracting because the pitcher is throwing to  spots dictated by the catcher’s glove?

Catchers are a rare breed, maybe it’s nothing more then reminding the battery to  focus on the battle at hand..

Thor-ing zzzzzzz

The Mets of course  playing in a division with 2 rebuilding (Phils Braves) and 1 dysfunctional ( Marlins) team as the Divisional competition  won their opening day  affair with the Rebuilding Atlanta Braves 6-0

Noah Thor Syndergaad 6 innings 5 hits, no  runs 7 K’s and Julio Teheran 6 innings, 4 hits, 3 BB, no  runs, 6 K’s  were locked up in a 6 inning 0-0 battle before Syndergaad, 87 pitches was yanked because of a blister and Teheran  was finished after having thrown 97 pitches

Both  young pitchers are very good, but this game was about the bull pens, and the last 9 outs.. The Mets are  without their closer Famila who is doing soft time for an alleged Domestic Abuse charge that Rob Manfred swept under the rug, apparently didn’t miss a beat thanks to 3 scoreless innings from Robles, Salas, and Gsellman

The Mets were shut down by Teheran  who has thrown 18 scoreless innings in a row dating back to  2016, but managed to attack  the underbelly portion of the Braves bull pen..

The Mets were sparked offensively by Asdrubal Cabrera 3 hits and Lucas Duda who  had one hit but it was a 3 run double off reliever O’Flaherty

Reyes Granderson  and Cespedes went a combined 1 for 11

Our Paint the Black beat  reporter DonB was on the scene of the crime

Mets just won a good game.
Atlanta looked heartless
Thor is the Goods no doubt,,
Hysterical DP to end the game too.

thanks to  the great DonB for the coverage…

With Matz and Lugo now hurting, #Mets suddenly down to 5 starters. And Syndergaard already being pushed back a day to let blister heal.

the Whole 9

the Mets go  back to  work on Wednesday

Hal About That

For the first  time in 24 years the NY Yankees Don’t have the highest payroll in baseball, in fact they start  the season as the third highest spending club behind the Dodgers and Tigers

The Yankees’ $195-million payroll enters the 2017 season third in the league, behind the first-place Dodgers at $225 million and second-place Tigers at $199.75 million, according to an Associated Press report.

Game 2 Yanks vs Rays

The Bombers will  try to get into  the win column tonight, when CC Sabathia toes the rubber vs the very tough Jake Odorizzi

It’s baseball  so  anything can happen but this  is an unmitigated pitching mismatch

Evan Longoria has seen Sabathia more than any other Major League pitcher, logging 86 plate appearances against the veteran dating back to 2008. Longoria has batted .403 (29-for-72) with nine doubles, seven homers, 16 RBIs and 13 walks in those matchups, striking out just seven times while compiling a 1.319 OPS.

• Greg Bird has enjoyed success against Odorizzi, as the Bombers’ first baseman has slugged two home runs in five at-bats against the righty. Yankees newcomer Matt Holliday also has two career homers off Odorizzi, and Brett Gardner, Starlin Castro, Gary Sanchez and Aaron Judge have each gone deep off him once.

FWIW

The Yankees’ Opening Day lineup featured four players under the age of 25 with Sanchez, Bird, Judge and Ronald Torreyes. It marked just the third such occasion in franchise history: in 1932

It’s a fun time being a Boston fan, it makes up for the futility we had to endure for 86 years. It also helps if your Ace pitches like one, and your best young player doesn’t play like a rookie. You’ll get there

    • What’s up big dawg, yes you guys were fantastic, yesterday, I still what to see who your 6 and 7th and 8th starters are, because bro, the Cubs 2016 rotation isn’t walking through the Fenway clubhouse, it’s Porcello and Sale and chase your tail…

Still no mention on any of your sites about the Golden Boy Benintendi’s 6 for 33 vs LHP? Good thing LHP is at a minimum..BTW good to see you, and you still owe me for running down those foul mouthed CT NYY fans, who I swear are Boston trolls looking to swipe at some of the real homers, for which you are not, NYY fans aren’t that stupid Yo…

  2. Two things.
One, because of the Met game, which ended an hour & a half before I got near Citifield, it took me 2 hrs to make the 15 mile drive home from NYC!!! I could’ve driven to freaking Woodstock in that time!
Fuck the Mets & fuck their fans for taking so long to leave the damn ballpark!

The other thing is……nothing can make up for 86 years of misery.
    Just sayin…
