The Baby Bummers

with 20 comments

Joe Girardi put down a decree, “That’s got to change.” The “That” is the Yankees’ starters failure to provide any length in any of their three starts. Masahiro Tanaka, CC Sabathia and Michael Pineda pitched a total of 9 2/3 innings over the Yankees first three games. The bullpen has been very good, but over 162 games this format is unsustainable. Only Sabathia, five scoreless on Tuesday, pitched well.

zzzzzzzz,

Joe Girardi  wants this non competitive starting pitching  to  stop, really Joe, then  don’t run to  the bump and yank these guys so  quickly..

Tanaka had nothing and was throwing batting practice on Sunday  so  we got that one.. We’ll find out soon enough if he’s hurt or just  pressing in an opt out year, or maybe he was legitimately over amped in front of 30 thousand at the Trop?..

The dude pitched a million big games in Japan and he works in the biggest  market in sports why am I not buying he was a bit antsy on opening day pitching  in a shit hole in Florida, a football  state???

Tanaka isn’t only sneaky on the mound, he’s a sneaky business man and he wants to add about 3 yr’s and  $90M to his already existing  3 yr’s $65M, he won’t be doing that anytime soon if he pro-rates Sunday’s debacle

Yanking Pineda after 3.2 innings with only 71 pitches was a head scratcher, unless you’re a NYY fan, then it’s old hat with the Dominican Dodo Bird on the bump

Oh, the analytics say Pineda will crumble like a stale cookie with  2 outs, RISP

.305 .387 .683 1.070

And you don’t want the game to get out of hand,

When Ahead / .304 .354 .524 .877

When behind / .219 .280 .404 .684

When Tied / .290 .345 .482 .828

Then  you’re running the wrong pitcher out there every 5 days..Who’s kidding who ?

People don’t automatically change that  easily, especially 28 year old starting pitchers… At this point in their careers they  are what  they  are.. It took Sabathia to his 35th  birthday, 3 years to  finally change his approach from a 97 MPH monster to  a 5 and fly guy

Hey 5 and fly is better then a $25M DFA and a seat next to ARod and Teixeira in the TV booth, especially now that he’s your #5 turned into  #2, and if Tanaka comes out and stinks out Camden Yards on Saturday, Sabathia is your Ace…..Scary

The Yanks lost their first  series of the year with last night’s rubber match going to the Rays 4-1

Pineda, he’s a joke, and his bad comedy act will come to  a city near you in 5 days.. For those of you who embrace misery loves company cuddle up  to  this Pineda line:

3.2 innings, 8 hits, 4 runs, no BB/s 6 K’s, 1 HR ERA 9.82

After 3 games Adam Warren  a reliever, has the 2nd most innings pitched, 4.2, only Sabathia’s shaky 5 innings tops him

The Yanks with  2 L’s  on the road have pitched 25 innings.. The Bombers starters have secured (Tanaka 2.2, Sabathia 5, Pineda 3.2 innings),  thats 11.1 innings total, leaving 14.2 innings for the pen to eat up..

Out of the 75 outs played the starters nailed down 34, leaving 41 for the pen…..Not what  your looking for, but what  you sort of knew you’d find.. So  who’s shocked, raise your hands… Nobody….

Pineda was terrible, but Adam Warren wasn’t, in fact if the offense would have done their job, Warren would have been a Thursday morning hero after restoring order in this latest Bomber nightmare

T  Penny Layne, 1 inning, no runs 1 BB  took over for Pineda and nailed down 3 of the 4 batters he faced

Adam Warren 2.1 innings, no  runs, no hits, 4 K’s nailed all 7 batters he faced to  the dugout bench

Chicken Shreve   1 inning, no runs, 1 BB finished off the night

The Yanks losing their first  series of the year to most of us that’s not a surprise, the Bombers always seem to  flounder at the Trop.. Actually it was their lost week end last season in Tampa that finally sent Hal Steinbrenner over the edge prompting him to order Cashman  to back  up  the truck

That  owner decision revitalized his Father’s Team, at least for  2 months and one Spring Training.. It empowered  the media and the school  boys who project farm systems and prospects, so Hal and Cashman got straight A’s on their Fake Media report  cards…

After all it was the media and the prospect Ho’s that wanted the Yanks to  join the rest of MLB in a Sell / Trade your old stars for potential new ones trend…

After just  3 real games the starting pitching has come as advertised, they  suck, but the Baby Bombers after being sliced and diced by some really good professional pitchers will open in Baltimore on Friday night  as the Baby Bummers

Why pick on them, it starts with the pitching right?

There are  No guarantees for success when you cash out, but it gives the marketing department a new Slogan, and  Yankees PR immediately threw  the Baby Bomber marquee up in lights..

For me, forget  the win’s and losses, Sanchez, Bird and Judge have been appointment TV,  this season is more about developing a core then worrying if the Yanks are a 75 or 84 win team…Unfortunately after 3 games the Baby Bomber hit series has had bad reviews.

Sanchez hit so many milestones during his two-month stint at the end of last season with the Yankees, it’s almost an afterthought that he ended the year in a 2-for-29 funk with 12 strikeouts.

The rough patch seems to have carried over, as Sanchez opened 2017 going hitless in his first 11 at-bats before a single to center in the second inning

At the moment the SanBino is a dreadful

1 for 14, 3 K’s / .071 .071 .071 .143

Greg Bird who I did see foul a ball off his foot in Spring Training, he was immediately  taken out of the game, and now we hear his ankle has been barking hasn’t been  much better

1 for 12, 1 double, 2 BB’s, 4 K’s .083 .214 .167 .381

“It’s bruised, but it’s feeling better,” said Bird, who didn’t think it was impacting his play. “I just don’t tie my shoe as tight.”

Aaron Judge hasn’t been as bad as expected, he’s only been  punched out  3 times in 12 AB’s,  so his 42% K Rate is down to 25% which is slightly better then Bird……..

2 for 12, 1 double, 3 K’s, .167 .167 .250 .417

It’s kind of silly getting wrapped up in doom after only 3 games, this was supposed to  happen, despite the hype and the narrative.. There has been some blowback  about placing Sanchez in the 2 hole, but that’s where new school managers put their best hitters now

I’m good with that, but if Sanchez’s job description is baby sitting the pitching staff and shoring up his defense first, offense second, what’s he doing in the most vital spot in the order after only 2 months experience on the varsity?

Bird and Sanchez right now are the problem, if you’re looking for wins, batting them  2nd and 3rd hasn’t panned out.. I’m not condoning moving them  down in the line-up, after all who’s replacing them

Headley who his hitting .636 .667 1.000 1.667  in 11 AB’s?

Ellsbury who is 5 for 11 .455 .500 .818 1.318 ?

How about Holliday  2 for 11 .182 .250 .273 .523

I know Flailing Castro 3 for 12, O for his last 2 games .250 .250 .250 .500

Last night  the Yanks were 0-9 with RISP, the only run came on an Ellsbury HR.. That’s what lost this game as much as, if not more then Pineda…..

BATTING
2B: Headley (1, Cobb)
HR: Ellsbury (1, 2nd inning off Cobb 0 on, 1 Out)
RBI: Ellsbury (1)
GIDP: Judge, Castro
Yankees RISP: 0-9 (Sánchez 0-1, Holliday 0-1, Bird 0-2, Torreyes 0-1, Judge 0-2, Castro 0-1, Gardner 0-1)
Team LOB: 7

Yanks have the day off, DD Gregorius wants to  play before May,  and yes Suzyn Waldman may have hit the Bloody Mary’s a tad early yesterday  when she drummed up her own Fake News by mentioning (to  the Two Met Mutts on WFAN  Roberts and Beningo) that Clint Frazier wanted to  wear and asked for #7

That’s the good news, the bad news is Buck  Showalter will be licking his chops at the vulnerability this new Bomber team possess and unless the Baby Bombers calm down, and the starting pitchers start  to eat some innings this week end might be deja vu all over

the Whole 9

  1. I’m waiting for the old bromide “we play better when it warms up”
Girardi’s tight jaw uptight style of managing has this team too tense & tight already.
Get him gone and get a real Baseball guy in that dugout NOW !!

    • hahaha When it warms up …good one

I think the Rays really good pitching had more to do with it then Girardi Donny, but we’ll throw that lock jaw concept into the hat..

If anything Girardi woke up the oldies up by calling them out..while trying to protect the kids

Let’s face it Cashman had one hand on the bible and the other over his eyes when he was forced to run this pitching staff out there.. Hal wants to cut payroll first, they have to wait until these contracts evaporate

Girardi had to try these kids in the 2 and 3 hole, he has no choice, who else is there but older past their prime guys… And we know why Castro is here they ran him out of Chicago with Baez and Russell in camp

Same with NY, Torres Wade, Frazier, Rutherford , maybe Andujar, and the wave below those kids will run Castro Headley, Gardner, and eventually Ellsbury out of Dodge

I watched the Red Sox do their rebuild while hanging in their chat rooms from 2012 until this day and that fan base went through hell.. They just focused on the kids individually, that too me is how to handle what we’re about to endure

Pineda is a disgrace, Cashman knows it, Rothschild knows it, Girardi knows it, and Tony Pena knows it, but they have to try and make him worth something, getting a prospect back is a big deal, prospects are huge commodities.. They all don’t pan out so you have to keep bringing them in and hopefully a few stick

we already know what Pineda’s upside is, nothing…

  2. The Yanks are about to face lesser pitchers this weekend except for Saturday, Gausman is really good.. Jimenez can be had and Miley is the first LHP they’ll face so that should help some, at least on paper

plus they’ll be out of that fucking garbage can in Tampa St Pete

  4. Suzyn Waldman is a complete ass hole.. Her spot on WFAN was entertaining, why let the facts get in the way of a good story Put her on CNN or MSNBC she’d be perfect

    • Frazier should have asked for #13. Arod was on the FS1 pregame and said the Yanks would be better this year “because I am sitting here with you instead of being on the field”. Then he laughed all the way to the bank. Pinheada is the same useless piece of garbage he always has been, the best they can hope for is for him to pitch well for a few starts around the trading deadline, then dump him before he leaves as a free agent.
The offense needs to wake up,leaving the Trop better help.

  5. We’re 3 games in. The Trop has been a house of horrors for the Yanks for years. Tanaka San threw a clunker, Capt Crunch threw a decent 5 & fly, & Pinetop showed again he’s got nothing between his ears. Yup, any way you look at it, it was a disappointing opening to the season.
Hopefully, this won’t continue. I’m not worried about Tanaka, & I think Capt Crunch, based on his end of season run, has finally figured out how to pitch with minimalist stuff. It’s the other 3 spots that are worrisome. Prop up Pinetop for a couple of good starts near the deadline & ship his sorry ass outta here, hopefully for a prospect. We haven’t even seen the last 2 guys yet, so hold your breath.

As Sal said, this year ain’t about the wins & losses, though wins would be nice & create a culture. It’s about developing these kids that are here now into major leaguers & a new core.
There will be growing pains. But Sanchez, Bird, & Judge are appointment TV. And taking the long view, I think these guys will be fine & enjoy their apprenticeship along the way.
What we need is pitching, pitching, & more pitching.
So, hoist up a Don B brownie & enjoy the ride.

So, hoist up a Don B brownie & enjoy the ride. hahahaha

that said our best pitching prospect goes down with a barking elbow… Cashman better sell off his veteran players for prospects, he sure as hell can’t draft any…smh

My Boston buddy might be right, Kaprielian is Ian Kennedy with a bad arm

  6. Cashman Magic at work

From NYY: RHP James Kaprielian was placed on minor league D.L. today with right elbow pain. He will undergo an MRI and a dye contrast MRI.

  7. hey Big D, that’s a good line by Arod lol…. yes leaving the Trop might help, I’m looking at Sunday vs the trash lefty Miley who that dope Dombrowski traded away for two pitchers who can’t get off the DL

Cashman and Dombrowski get all these accolades, all the do is spend money and win nothing

  8. there are dumber MFer’s in this world then Joe Beningo but you have to drive to the extreme back woods of West Virginia to find them

I wonder if these two Met Mutts would waste 5 minutes of a ten minute segment talking about Presidents if this was football spot??

Every national pundit that comes on their show has to talk 90% Mets first, then maybe everything else, how is this allowed by their station manager ? The station airs NYY games, these guys must really really work cheap

    Sal

    April 6, 2017 at 12:36 pm

  9. Those Met pricks hijacked that other dope Heyman and all they did was brow beat him about Lugo and the other Met pitcher who are getting tests… No Kaprielian……

Francesa does the same thing they go into a history lesson on who were the best players in their childhood… Who the fuck cares, let’s get intel on what’s going on today.. It’s not like you need Heyman or the two Met Dolts just go to a twitter feed, it’s the principal.. lol

Actually WFAN airs NYY games for CBS so it makes sense they don’t have any NYY news from their morning crew, it’s more Al Yankzeera propaganda

  10. Francesa has been all over the Masters, he had his wife’s golf instructor on yesterday, some golf big shot.. You ever see those dudes showing women how to putt, next thing you know she’s practicing more then golf with this dude, just saying….

  11. Listening to WFAN has become unlistenable, if you’re a Baseball fan. In season or not, football is the predominant subject. Followed by hoops, hockey, & Ugh, golf.
They spend little or no time on baseball, unless the Met Mutts are on the air. Then, it’s ONLY Mutt topics.
Bad news concerning Kaprillian. Sounds like Dr Andrews & or Dr Frank Jobe is in his future. Hopefully, this is just a scare, & he’ll only have to be shut down for a short time.
